Chapter 561: Chapter 561: The Bizarre Hanging_1
There wasn’t a breeze in the riverbed, yet the woman hanging from the tree was swaying slightly.
This gave Li Qing a sudden sense of creepiness.
When Dian Chunqiu mentioned it that day, the Hundred Year Old Apricot Tree was the first thing that came to his mind.
He hadn’t expected it to be so sinister at night.
Was the woman real, or just an illusion?
Li Qing was now somewhat doubtful.
After all, not many people would have the courage to come to this eerie riverbed in the dead of night.
Even those intent on dying might be deterred by such a setting.
Especially that beam of light, coming from who knows where, hazy and seemingly dodgy no matter how you looked at it.
Summoning all his courage and extremely cautious, Li Qing approached the old apricot tree step by step.
Suddenly, he noticed the woman’s clothes on the tree.
A white and blue striped sweatshirt, paired with a pair of black leggings.
Li Qing remembered that Qin Wenjun was wearing exactly this outfit in the afternoon.
How could she have possibly hung herself in such a place?
Whoever wanted to die, it was unlikely that woman would want to!
Could it be because of the threats he made at dusk that he had somehow hurt her strong spirit?
Impossible!
If a few careless words could drive her to death, her spirit would have nothing to do with strength.
But the more Li Qing looked, the more it resembled her, even the build and hair seemed the same.
Oh no!
Could it really be Qin Wenjun?
Li Qing got a fright and hurriedly rushed over in a few strides.
Looking up at that pale face, a chill instantly shot up Li Qing’s spine.
Damn, it’s really a ghost!
It was indeed Qin Wenjun.
He quickly brought her down and tried to check her breath.
To his relief, Qin Wenjun was still breathing, albeit faintly, but she was not dead.
So the reason she was swaying without wind was not because of some eerie event but because this damn woman wasn’t quite dead and was struggling?
"You decided to hang yourself, and on top of that scare people at night, that’s too much!"
Li Qing muttered to himself, quickly laid Qin Wenjun flat and lifted her sweatshirt, preparing to give her a cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Qin Wenjun’s sweatshirt was thick, but what she wore underneath was very thin, just a black bra.
However, in this life-and-death moment, Li Qing could be irreverent with his words, but his thoughts had to remain focused.
He quickly placed his hands one on top of the other and pressed them against Qin Wenjun’s quite pert chest.
"I remember it’s supposed to be done like this, it should be correct," Li Qing pressed methodically, muttering in his heart with some unease.
He had never actually learned this emergency technique, having only seen it done on a cellphone.
"Don’t blame me, I have no other choice now, I can only treat a dead horse as if it were a live horse," he said.
After pressing around a hundred times, Qin Wenjun’s eyes remained tightly shut, with no sign of waking up.
This made Li Qing become truly anxious.
Could it be, how could it have no effect at all?
He pried open Qin Wenjun’s cherry lips, took a deep breath, and blew into them with all his strength.
He did not know if this method of artificial respiration was correct, it was more like truly using a dead horse as a live horse.
After seven or eight breaths, Qin Wenjun suddenly reacted.
"Uh..."
She abruptly opened her eyes, a long sound emanating from her throat.
Seeing this, Li Qing’s tightly wound nerves relaxed sharply.
Thankfully, she was saved.
Although he disliked this woman competing with him for his sister-in-law, the thought of her dying right before his eyes was distressing.
He could not bring himself to be so heartless.
"What...what happened to me?" Qin Wenjun asked weakly.
She looked very bewildered as if she had no idea how she ended up here.
Li Qing quietly tugged at her sweatshirt.
He had been too worried earlier and hadn’t gotten around to pulling it down.
Now, as she lay on the ground with the sweatshirt hiked up, it could easily lead to misunderstandings.
He remained motionless, which was fine, but as soon as he moved, Qin Wenjun immediately became aware of it.
She sprang to her feet, looked down at her lifted sweatshirt, her breasts nearly fully exposed, and became instantly furious.
She swung her hand at Li Qing’s cheek with a slap.
"You pervert!"
Li Qing was quick to react and caught Qin Wenjun’s arm, "You dead hag, don’t wrong an innocent man, I was saving you!"
"If it weren’t for the effort I put into rescuing you, you’d have met the King of Hell by now."
"Save me? You have that kind of heart?" Qin Wenjun angrily retorted, her tone mixed with shame and rage.
Li Qing frowned, "Do you really not remember anything you did?"
"What did I do?" Qin Wenjun demanded.
Li Qing gestured to the rope on the tree trunk, "When I came down, you were hanging right here."
"You hung yourself from the tree, do you really have no recollection whatsoever?"
Qin Wenjun skeptically shook her head at Li Qing, "All I remember is...Yu Haizhu’s cow went missing, he hurriedly came to ask for my help. He went up the mountain while I headed down to the riverbank, then... Ouch, why does my head hurt so much?"
"You were hanging, it should be your neck that’s hurting, why is your head in pain?" Li Qing asked, puzzled.
"The back of my head is throbbing terribly, it feels like someone beat me up, did you do this?" Qin Wenjun accused.
Li Qing suddenly felt as if he were being extorted, "If you’re going to be like this, then just stay here, I can’t be bothered arguing with you."
"You dead hag, it’s like a dog biting Lu Dongbin, you don’t recognize good intentions, why would I harm you if I went out of my way to save you?"
"Besides, my movements were very gentle when I lay you on the ground, it’s impossible that I caused you any injury."
Qin Wenjun thought it over carefully and somewhat agreed that Li Qing might have a point.
"But the back of my head really hurts badly, what on earth happened..."
"Think again, and if you wrong me, I’ll just leave you here for the ghosts," Li Qing said, obviously annoyed. "So irritating!"
Behind them, the Hundred Year Old Apricot Tree suddenly rustled.
Qin Wenjun was so scared that she immediately got goosebumps and timidly looked around, squeezing closer to Li Qing.
"Also, are you sure you didn’t seek death yourself?" Li Qing asked.
Qin Wenjun rolled her eyes, "Why would I seek death when everything was fine?"
"Then where did this hanging rope come from?" Li Qing looked up at the rope on the tree trunk and murmured to himself.
These ancient trees with spirits, although they can harm people, surely wouldn’t be able to prepare a rope as well.
Their greatest ability is to influence weak-minded people.
"This... I don’t know," Qin Wenjun shook her head blankly.
