Chapter 2395: Chapter 2394: The Reason
After that, Ling Feng stopped disturbing them and sat silently beside the two women.
Time passed slowly. After quite a while, Xiao Xiao suddenly took a deep breath, and her body began to tremble slightly.
Since she was one of his own people, Ling Feng hurriedly reached out and pulled her into his arms. "What’s wrong with you?"
"N-nothing."
Xiao Xiao took the chance to shrink into his embrace, then said softly, "Brother, I’ve already unlocked the secret of that Light of the Mysterious Clouds."
"Oh? Hurry and tell me what it is?" Ling Feng asked.
"It’s not ordinary radiance, it’s a set of light signals!"
Xiao Xiao raised her head to look at him. "I just deciphered the content inside. It’s a distress message."
"Hm?"
Ling Feng was stunned on the spot and asked blankly, "A distress message from who?"
"A survivor of a high-level civilization."
Xiao Xiao said this, then slipped out of Ling Feng’s arms and looked into his eyes. "But I’m guessing the person is already gone. This signal has been transmitting for over a hundred thousand years."
"Oh."
Ling Feng was a little disappointed, so he continued to ask, "Then where is this light being sent from?"
"Right here in these mountains."
Xiao Xiao pointed outside. "The reason this area is a no-fly zone is mainly because of a chaotic energy field, and the thing emitting that energy is a spaceship."
"So that’s how it is!"
Ling Feng understood, then looked at Feiyan. "But why was she attracted by that radiance, and at the same time felt as if her body and mind were being purified?"
"It’s a matter of frequency."
Xiao Xiao glanced at him. "We were all born inside the Chaos Sword. Even though we’re humans like you, biologically there are still some subtle differences."
"Just because of that?"
Ling Feng was totally confused as he listened.
"Yes."
Xiao Xiao nodded. "A single different link on the chromosomes is enough to cause a huge divergence of species. That’s perfectly normal."
"Then does this light have any harmful effects on a human body?" Ling Feng continued to ask.
"No. People feel very comfortable simply because through this frequency they find a sense of tranquility and safety, that’s all," Xiao Xiao said.
"Oh, that’s good."
Ling Feng let out a breath of relief, turned to look at Feiyan, saw her sitting motionless, and after thinking for a moment said, "Then let her keep watching it for a while, and we’ll think about how to act tomorrow."
"Okay."
Xiao Xiao nodded. "This mountain range is very deep. It probably won’t be easy to find that spaceship. We’ll need at least a rough direction."
"I get the feeling that spaceship shouldn’t be very big."
Ling Feng thought for a moment. "This place isn’t exactly untouched. There must have been people who went deeper into the mountains to explore, and still no one found it."
"Mm, that’s possible. There’s also the possibility it’s hidden quite well, and over the long years its ’eyes’ have been covered by soil, weeds, and trees." Xiao Xiao nodded.
"Whatever the case, we’ll go look for it tomorrow and see!"
Ling Feng smiled, saw that it was getting late, and said to Xiao Xiao, "You go rest first. I’ll stay with her for a bit. By midnight that radiance will disappear, and she’ll wake up then."
"I’m not sleepy. I want to stay with you."
Xiao Xiao pouted, revealing a girlish charm, and leaned directly against Ling Feng’s shoulder.
With her acting spoiled like this, Ling Feng felt his whole body go soft, and he suddenly had nothing to say. He could only reach out and hold her.
The two of them leaned against each other for a long time, until the light in the sky flickered and the Light of the Mysterious Clouds vanished.
Xiao Xiao immediately slipped out of Ling Feng’s arms, then saw Feiyan turn her head, and asked with a smile, "How do you feel?"
"Very comfortable, just a bit tired," Feiyan said.
"That’s because your spiritual power was too concentrated. It’s normal. Hurry and get a good rest," Xiao Xiao said.
"Mm."
Feiyan nodded and, as she entered the tent, said to her and Ling Feng, "You two should rest early as well."
They both nodded, watching her go into the tent and lie down to sleep almost immediately.
After that, Ling Feng and Xiao Xiao stood up and went to sit at the edge of the giant rock, and at the same time Ling Feng asked, "Burning through your stamina like this really is no problem?"
"Don’t worry, Brother, would I lie to you?" Xiao Xiao said.
"That’s not what I meant."
Ling Feng chuckled and, after thinking for a bit, said, "I’m just curious. This whole thing is a bit too amazing."
"The myriad things in the universe really are amazing."
Xiao Xiao looked up at the star-filled sky and spoke with deeper meaning.
Hearing this, Ling Feng couldn’t help reaching out to pinch her ear. "Listen to you getting all sentimental. Go sleep already!"
"Brother, I’m not sleepy. Let’s just watch the stars like this. I think it’s so beautiful!" Xiao Xiao said as she hugged Ling Feng’s arm.
"Alright, then I’ll watch the stars with you!"
Ling Feng nodded and freed a hand to hold her.
The two of them just leaned together like that. There was no need to say anything, as long as they could feel each other’s warmth and heartbeat.
After daybreak, Ling Feng, as usual, started preparing porridge. Xiao Xiao helped out beside him, and the two of them were quite happy and harmonious.
By the time breakfast was ready, Feiyan had woken up as well.
Then Ling Feng told her about Xiao Xiao’s discovery.
After listening to everything, Feiyan stared blankly for quite a while before she fully understood what the Light of the Mysterious Clouds actually was.
After a moment of silence, she looked at Ling Feng and asked, "So you’ve decided to go look for that, what was it, the spaceship today?"
"Mm!"
Ling Feng nodded. "Xiao Xiao has already confirmed that the Light of the Mysterious Clouds isn’t naturally occurring; it was produced by very advanced machines, so I want to see what it actually is."
"Alright then."
Feiyan nodded and, after thinking, said, "This place isn’t unvisited, but no one has ever found anything like a spaceship. It’s probably not that easy to find, so you should be mentally prepared."
"Mm, I’ve thought about that."
Ling Feng nodded. "So I’ve already asked Mu Mu to cover for me at the shop for a few days. Now I have plenty of time to stay here."
"Alright."
Feiyan nodded after hearing this.
After the three of them finished breakfast, they packed up their things and jumped down from the giant rock together.
Because they couldn’t fly and wanted to see the surrounding environment clearly, Ling Feng had no choice but to pick a relatively tall Shan Feng and climb up it. Then he used his phone to take pictures and brought them back down to the ground.
Xiao Xiao carefully looked through them once, then pondered for a moment and said, "Brother, let’s head that way. The forest there is very dense, but there aren’t many peaks. It should be a relatively good landing spot."
"Alright."
Ling Feng smiled and started walking in the direction she indicated.
The three of them weren’t in any particular hurry to rush the journey, so they wandered through the wilds, admiring the scenery around them. The vegetation here was incredibly lush, and who knew how many years it had been since anyone set foot here.
This dense jungle could block ordinary people, but it couldn’t stop Ling Feng and the others. Each of them took up a weapon to clear the way, opening up a path through the forest.
After spending the whole morning, the three finally arrived at a relatively open valley.
The surroundings were completely silent. After pausing for a moment, Xiao Xiao said to Ling Feng, "Brother, it should be right here!"
