Chapter 623: Chapter 30: Coincidence Encounters the Traitor
Chapter Thirty: Coincidence Exposes the Traitor
As they both patiently listened, they heard Lin Fenni outside pondering deeply, as if the other party had given her another option to consider.
"...Alright! I can agree to this. A computer virus is still acceptable, given the size of the company, there are many ways for it to spread. Planting bombs over the weekend, you must be crazy, or out of your mind, to come up with such a ridiculous decision." After complaining for a bit, Lin Fenni continued, "How will you get it to me? Compress the file and send it to my email now, and I’ll just disable the firewall and antivirus, then extract and execute it? Okay... okay..."
Upon hearing this, Li Yan and Hai Fu speculated that the other party’s original intent was probably to have Lin Fenni help spread a computer virus. Just afraid she wouldn’t agree initially, they proposed the exaggerated request of planting a bomb over the weekend. Once she refused, they brought up the virus plan, which she readily accepted.
Hearing up to this point, the two exchanged a look and made an instant decision. If they locked her on the rooftop now, she wouldn’t have the chance to spread the computer virus, but there would be no evidence to accuse her of anything either. Instead, it would alert the enemy; to catch her, they must wait for her to slip up!
If we don’t leave now, we’ll run into her!
Li Yan pointed at the stairs, and Hai Fu nodded, quickly taking off her high heels and running downstairs in just her stockings. This way, there was no noise; otherwise, the sudden footsteps would definitely alert Lin Fenni.
Li Yan quietly praised her composure, carefully unbolted the door, took off his shoes as well, and ran down.
Back in the top floor corridor, Li Yan caught up with Hai Fu. At this moment, Hai Fu was secretly frustrated, because it was after work, and several elevators had gone down. It wasn’t easy to come up now, and it was inconvenient to call an elevator. Otherwise, others would be curious about why someone was on the top floor at this hour.
"Take the stairs?" Hai Fu looked at Li Yan.
Li Yan shook his head, looked towards the staircase, "Just be patient and wait!"
Hai Fu could only nod; going back to the staircase now would lead to a direct encounter with Lin Fenni.
"Don’t worry, if we can’t go down, neither can she. You still have time!" Li Yan said, holding Hai Fu’s shoulder, guiding her forward.
After stopping at a corner, they heard the "tap-tap" of high-heeled footsteps; Lin Fenni was coming hurriedly.
She walked straight to the elevator entrance, and soon had the same concern as them. Bringing the elevator up wasn’t easy and avoiding suspicion as to why she was at the top floor was even harder. After waiting a while, she helplessly returned to the stairway, presumably to take the stairs.
Hai Fu let out a breath of relief, coming out. "Shall we wait until everyone is off work to use the elevator?"
Li Yan smiled and said, "What about you? Are you going to run stairs after her? That would lead to a collision with Lin Fenni. But I guess she won’t run the whole way down; she’ll probably go down a few floors where it’s less conspicuous and wait for the elevator. But why race her? She’s going to operate a computer, are you too?"
Hai Fu immediately understood. Although she went ahead, how could she possibly be faster than a phone call? She quickly took out her phone and contacted the head of the company’s information network security, asking if he had gone off-duty. As he hadn’t, she requested him to stay for overtime. She instructed him to technically isolate Lin Fenni’s computer and further isolate the public relations department’s computers to prevent her from using other colleagues’ computers to spread the virus after losing network access. The information network security department deals with various daily issues, including external attacks and issues caused by employees online. There would naturally be no technical issues, but Hai Fu personally ordering to isolate Lin Fenni’s computer made the manager a bit concerned, wondering if there was private enmity between the administration director and the PR director.
However, Hai Fu’s authority was substantial, and nobody dared to ignore her personal phone call. Upon hearing Hai Fu say that Lin Fenni’s computer might have contracted a formidable virus, although it wasn’t confirmed, nobody dared to be negligent.
After giving the instructions, she made another call to Zhang Yurong. Such an important matter obviously had to be reported immediately.
After reporting, Hai Fu was surprised to find Zhang Yurong seemed unsurprised at all, considering she had invested significant effort in managing PR department affairs personally in the past few days. It made her more surprised, could it be that Zhang Yurong already knew about Lin Fenni’s issue?
"Sister Hai Fu, I also know that Lin Fenni is problematic. These past few days, I’ve been trying to reassess the PR department and handle it after sidelining her. You managed it well, preserve the evidence so I can deal with her!"
Hai Fu couldn’t help but admire her. Having watched this young lady grow up, she indeed was a genius. It seemed nothing could stay hidden from her! "I understand."
"By the way, Lin Fenni has been hiding very well, how did you know she was about to spread a computer virus?" Zhang Yurong couldn’t help but ask curiously. If Li Yan hadn’t discovered Lin Fenni’s issue, she would have been in the dark. How did Hai Fu discover it as well?
Hai Fu looked at Li Yan, choosing to say, "It was purely coincidental! Honestly, these past few days, I’ve been under a lot of pressure too. Even though it’s the weekend, I didn’t think I could relax. Just before clocking out, I went to the rooftop to get some air, and accidentally overheard Lin Fenni’s phone call, catching bits of the conversation."
"Feeling guilty, she thought she could be overheard in the office, pantry, or restroom and chose the open rooftop. With the workday ending, she didn’t expect anyone else to be up there but was accidentally discovered by you." Zhang Yurong said with a touch of sentiment, counting it as a stroke of luck!
"Miss Zhang, don’t worry, I’ll handle it well."
After hanging up, Hai Fu wrapped her arms around Li Yan’s neck, "What now? I have to work overtime, and dinner will be delayed."
Li Yan placed his hand on her waist, chuckling softly, "Anyway, we have to wait here for the elevator, we’ll go down when everyone’s gone. Your overtime is just supervising results, others do the work."
"So what?"
"Since dinner will be late, why not have a quick snack first?"
Hai Fu’s breathing and heartbeat had already quickened. Through her black-framed glasses, she slightly licked her lips, "But... the environment isn’t quite suitable here. How about we go to your office?"
"Hehe, my office is on the eighth floor, should we run down there?"
Hai Fu didn’t insist further; they couldn’t really run down there. A quick snack means wrapping up quickly too!
...
Half an hour later, Li Yan arrived at the parking lot. Everyone had clocked out, and they could finally take the elevator down. Hai Fu separated from him, heading back to the office to organize and rest before checking on the information network security department’s monitoring of Lin Fenni.
