Chapter 624: Chapter 31: Understanding John Woo
Chapter 31: John Woo Enters the Scene
(Special thanks to the book friend [Feng’s Freedom] for becoming the Squad Leader of this book. Here’s an extra Chapter in gratitude!)
Li Yan bought a can of Red Bull from the company’s vending machine and rested in the car. Although he hadn’t expended much energy yet, he knew there would be a big battle tonight and needed to recover his strength.
As he finished his can of Red Bull, he noticed someone hurrying from the basement elevator entrance towards the parking lot. By now, most people had left, so someone walking by was quite noticeable. Sitting in the car, Li Yan quickly saw her and recognized her as Lin Fenni, the director of the PR department.
Has she come out? Has she finished decompressing and running the computer virus?
It’s not surprising. Even if Hai Fu knows she’s an inside agent, she can only gather evidence through technical means and deal with it through official channels. She can’t directly detain her.
However... that’s not Li Yan’s way of doing things. To him, enemies are meant to be annihilated!
After pondering for a moment, he decided to follow Lin Fenni and see what’s happening. Since she had already argued with someone over the phone on the rooftop, would she meet them in person after work? Maybe she’s learning a lesson from Zhou Shiru and trying to pull herself out now. But Changhe Group has certainly invested a lot in her; it’s never that easy to get away.
Besides, even if she wants to withdraw, it’s only because the current situation is unfavorable, making her a fence-sitter, rather than feeling guilty towards the company. Given another opportunity, she’d betray them again. Even if she’s not killed, she should at least be kicked out!
Lin Fenni is the PR department director and surely receives decent treatment. Along with various PR expenses, her income is certainly good. Her choice of car, a Porsche sports car, also reflects her status.
As he watched her car leave the parking lot, Li Yan began to follow her in his car. Anyway, Hai Fu wouldn’t be coming out just yet, and even if she did, it wouldn’t be convenient to leave together.
As Lin Fenni left, the company was already quiet since everyone had already gone home. Deep in thought, she didn’t notice someone tailing her.
She wasn’t driving very fast. Li Yan maintained a certain distance, following her. After turning for more than ten minutes, still in the bustling downtown area, Li Yan couldn’t figure out where she was headed.
After maneuvering a bit longer, she arrived at a private dining restaurant and began looking for a parking spot, causing Li Yan to hesitate. If she had arranged to meet someone there for dinner, following her in wouldn’t be an issue since Lin Fenni likely wouldn’t notice him. But he had arranged dinner with Hai Fu that night, and if she came along, Lin Fenni would definitely notice.
He maintained some distance, parked by the roadside, and observed Lin Fenni, planning to finalize his move until confirming she had gone inside, then discuss the plan with Hai Fu. If she was cautious and changed her appearance slightly, Lin Fenni might not notice.
After parking, Lin Fenni, wearing sunglasses, walked to the front of the private dining establishment but didn’t enter immediately, instead waiting at the door.
After checking her watch a few times, a car parked in front of Li Yan. A man in his forties stepped out, not driving himself, as the driver parked the car. He headed directly towards Lin Fenni.
Observing the direction he came from, and seeing Lin Fenni remove her sunglasses despite not going over to welcome him, Li Yan took out his phone, adjusted the angle, zoomed in as best as he could to capture them, and started taking photos.
This man was the person Lin Fenni had been waiting for. After meeting, they exchanged a few words and entered the private dining room hand in hand.
Li Yan couldn’t determine if this was Lin Fenni’s husband, lover, or a representative from Changhe Group, so he made a call to Hai Fu.
Hai Fu took a while to answer, indicating she was probably with someone, and had to step away to take the call.
"Sorry to keep you waiting. We’ve strictly followed my arrangements here and cut off the network ahead of time. The entire company’s computer network wasn’t infected. After Lin Fenni left, we went to the PR department, and her computer was fully infected by the virus. Engineers found all data was destroyed, and if it hadn’t been disconnected in time, it could have infected all active computers, including servers! The situation is quite serious, and we’ve summoned the entire department to work overtime over the weekend, starting from the PR department’s computers, including checking and upgrading the whole network server. We must ensure that no other computers are infected before Monday’s work starts."
After hearing Hai Fu’s report, Li Yan realized the gravity of the situation.
Every department works on computers now, so if all computers got infected with a malicious virus and were wiped clean, it would be a seriously problematic issue for the company. Despite all computers having antivirus software purchased uniformly and professional maintenance, in a scenario like this with internal personnel disabling the firewall and antivirus software to intentionally execute a virus file, making the whole computer infected and spreading externally, the outcomes could be unpredictable. Especially now during the weekend, if guards were lax and servers got disrupted, leading to a widespread outbreak on Monday, even if not completely paralyzed, there would be significant chaos.
"Don’t worry. Leave it to them. If not for you discovering the crisis in advance, they would have been in big trouble come Monday. They’ll definitely be conscientious in cleaning the virus and doing checks and upgrades in the coming days."
