Chapter 176: I Forgot

Cael’s body felt weak.

His legs trembled beneath him, barely able to support his weight. His mind was still reeling from the scream, his ears ringing with a high-pitched whine that refused to fade.

Every sound felt distant, muffled, as if he were underwater. His vision blurred and sharpened in uneven waves.

He gritted his teeth and forced himself to stand. The ground swayed beneath his feet. He used his sword to steady himself, the blade digging into the earth.

’I need to bring them back.’

He slowly raised his hand and lightly cut his finger with the edge of his blade.

Two drops of blood welled up and fell to the ground. The droplets shimmered, then expanded, taking shape.

Within seconds, the Black Lightning Clone and Frostflame Clone stood before him, their forms solid and alert.

The clones moved without hesitation. One took Cael’s arm, supporting his weight. The other approached Junior, who was still on his knees, blood dripping from his ears.

The Frostflame Clone helped Junior to his feet as he said,

"We need to find cover."

The clones moved quickly, dragging Cael and Junior away from the open clearing.

The forest blurred past them, the twisted trees and cracked ground blending into a haze of green and orange.

It did not take long before they found a hiding spot, it was a small cave hidden behind a cluster of dead trees.

The entrance was narrow, barely wide enough for one person to squeeze through.

But inside, the place was very wide and spacious, the floor dry. It was a natural shelter, untouched by the realm’s monsters.

Cael collapsed against the wall, his breathing ragged. His mind was still fragmented, the edges of his thoughts frayed.

He forced himself to focus.

Cael raised his hand and used his Earth element to move a boulder, sealing the entrance. Then, from the inside, he built a fake rock wall, hiding the cave completely.

And his SS-rank skill, Great Stitching, already began to work.

Cael felt the warmth spread through his body as the skill repaired the damage: the torn eardrums, the strained muscles, the frayed nerves.

The process was slow since Cael couldn’t focus, but still, it was passively working just fine.

The Frostflame Clone knelt beside Junior and pressed a healing potion to his lips, and he said,

"Drink this."

Junior drank weakly, his hands trembling.

After some time, Cael closed his eyes and focused on his own recovery.

The next day.

Cael and Junior weren’t in a hurry to explore just yet; they decided to break through before continuing the journey toward the core zone.

Cael sat cross-legged as he closed his eyes.

He was close. He could feel it. The bottleneck was there, just within reach.

He pushed himself, forcing his mana to circulate, forcing his body to adapt. The pain was sharp, but he did not stop.

A day later, Cael finally broke through.

He felt the shift in his core, the expansion of his mana. His rank climbed, settling into [Platinum].

Cael let out a small smile as he opened his status window.

Cael smiled as he checked the progress.

And he was surprised to see his time element increased by 3%.

’It seems giving the time element to the training maniac clone was the best choice.’

Junior followed a day after. His body convulsed as the breakthrough took hold, and when he opened his eyes, they were clearer, sharper.

He had reached [Gold].

...

Outside the realm.

On an island between the vampire continent and the borderlands, two figures sat face to face.

Ervath, humanity’s strongest ranker and leader of the Council, leaned back in his chair. His green hair was neat, his posture relaxed.

Across from him sat the Vampire King, his pale skin glowing faintly under the dim light, his crimson eyes sharp and unblinking.

The air between them was tense and heavy.

Ervath spoke first with a slight smile,

"The Council agrees to your proposal for an alliance."

The Vampire King’s lips curled into a faint smile, but he said nothing, simply waiting.

Ervath continued saying,

"But we have a condition. If the artifact vanishes, just like what happened during the previous realm’s discovery, the vampires will still honor their word and ally with us to go to war against the wraiths."

The Vampire King’s smile did not fade. He had already expected this. So, he replied,

"Agreed, but in that scenario, I have a condition of my own. If the realm has no artifact, the vampire race will take the wraith’s artifact after the war to keep the balance between our races. If the realm does have an artifact, then the wraith’s artifact goes to the competent one."

The room fell silent. The tension was thick, almost suffocating.

The topic of artifacts was always dangerous. They were the most powerful objects in existence, and their distribution could shift the balance of power between the three races.

Ervath studied the Vampire King for a long moment. Then he nodded.

"Alright."

They stood up and shook hands, and a Mana contract was formed.

It was a simple and straightforward contract, without any loopholes. Both parties were bound by its terms.

The news silently spread quickly through the Council.

Guilds were informed, Agents were notified, and High-stage rankers received the message in secret.

That said, they also sent another message.

’The alliance will last until the wraiths are annihilated. Try not to kill vampires unless they cross the line.’

Similarly, the Vampire King sent messages to his subordinates and high-blood clans.

’Try not to antagonize humans in human territories.’

The alliance was sealed.

The war against the wraiths was Set.

For now, both parties’ attention fell on the realm.

And neither side knew what the realm would bring.

...

Meanwhile...

On the outskirts of Karyal City, the next morning arrived.

The morning sun rays filtered through the tree leaves as they fell on the grounds.

Lysa’s eyes slowly opened, her vision still blurred and unfocused.

The first thing she felt was a sharp pain in her cheek, the spot where Cael’s fist had landed the night before.

She winced, trying to move her hand to touch it, but found that she could not.

Her arms were bound. The rope was wrapped tightly around her wrists and tied to a pillar behind her.

She blinked, her vision clearing, and her gaze fell on a silver-haired boy sitting a few feet away. He was casually eating an apple, his expression calm and unbothered.

Naturally, it was Cael [Wind clone].

He took a slow bite and chewed, watching Lysa with an unreadable expression.

Lysa struggled against the ropes, but they held firm. She was not getting free.

That said, she wasn’t able to use mana. As if something was stopping her from using mana.

Then Cael slowly stood up. He summoned his sword into his hand, the blade gleaming under the morning light.

He walked toward her and pointed the tip at her throat, his eyes cold and sharp, then he asked,

"Who are you?"

Lysa’s eyes widened. She hesitated for a moment, then answered,

"I am Luke’s ally."

She did not say she was Kira. Cael knew Kira from the past, and she did not want to reveal that connection. Never and ever.

Cael did not lower his sword and asked,

"Then why did you attack me last night?"

Lysa’s expression turned awkward. She looked away briefly before replying,

"I was testing you."

Cael scoffed, his voice flat,

"Testing me? Your attacks were saying something else."

Lysa did not know what to say anymore.

She had no good excuse. Her plan had been simple: test Cael, see if he was capable of going on such a dangerous mission.

But things had escalated too quickly.

Then Cael asked, his tone sharp,

"Then why didn’t you just tell me you were testing me?"

Lysa let out a wry smile and said,

"I forgot."

Cael stared at her, clearly unimpressed.

Lysa sighed and added,

"Ask Luke if you have doubts. He will confirm everything."

Cael smiled, but there was no warmth in it.

"Well, I already did."

Lysa’s confident smile faltered. It turned stiff, uncertain. She stared at him for a moment, then asked,

"Then why are you still keeping me tied up?"

Cael shrugged casually and replied,

"Oh, I forgot."

He turned and walked back to his seat, taking another bite of his apple.

Lysa stared at his back, her jaw tightening.

She had been played.
