Chapter 166: The Alliance
Inside the realm, Cael and Junior had been walking for what felt like an eternity.
The forest stretched endlessly before them. The same ancient trees. The same still water channels. The same unmoving sun hung in the sky.
Nothing changed. Nothing shifted. It was as if the realm itself was testing their patience.
But Cael had noticed something strange.
No matter how long they walked toward the two mountains in the distance, the distance never seemed to decrease.
The mountains remained at the same spot, unmoving, unreachable. It was as if they were walking in place, trapped in an endless loop.
Cael stopped and stared at the mountains.
He closed his eyes and focused. He activated Mana Sovereignty, letting his senses spread across the land. He felt the mana around him, the flow of energy, the rhythm of the realm.
And then he noticed something.
The land was moving. Slowly. Almost imperceptibly. But it was moving. The segments of the ground were shifting, rotating, like pieces of a puzzle being rearranged.
Cael’s eyes snapped open.
"The land is moving; it’s shifting in segments. That’s why we can’t reach the mountains. The path is changing faster than we can walk."
Junior nodded slowly and said,
"Then we need to find the pattern."
Cael turned to his clones.
"Spread out. Monitor the movement. Report any changes."
Frostflame and Black Lightning nodded and moved in opposite directions.
Cael sat down on the ground and closed his eyes again.
He activated Thought Partition, splitting his mind into multiple streams. One stream monitored the land. Another analyzed the patterns. A third searched for the exit.
Minutes passed. Then hours.
Then, finally, Cael found it.
The movement was not random. It was a pattern. A rhythm. A cycle. The segments moved in a specific order, creating a path that opened and closed at certain intervals.
Cael stood up and said,
"I found it. Follow me."
He began walking, not toward the mountains, but in a direction that seemed random.
He turned left. Then right. Then left again. He walked in circles, backtracked, and changed directions.
Junior and the clones followed without question.
And then, suddenly, the forest vanished.
They were standing at the edge of a vast, open plain. The two mountains stood before them, close and real. The path behind them had disappeared.
Cael let out a breath.
"We made it."
...
While Cael was busy solving the puzzle, the world above was calm. Too calm. It was the kind of calm that came before a storm.
Due to the emergence of the realm, humans, wraiths, and vampires were all making their own preparations.
Armies were mobilized. Strategies were formed.
...
Inside the human capital city, in the Council headquarters, a meeting was taking place.
A green-haired middle-aged man sat at the head of a round table. His name was Ervath.
He was the leader of the Council, the strongest of the thirteen [Origin] rankers who guarded humanity.
Around the table sat seven [Origin] rankers. Behind each of them stood their assistants. Five more [Origin] rankers joined via projection, their images flickering in the air.
Thirteen [Origin] rankers. The strongest humans alive.
One of the projections spoke. It was a middle-aged man with graying hair.
"I am continuing with the Grand Summit Trials to ease and divert public tension. The people need to believe that everything is under control."
Another projection reported on the borderlands. Another on the cities. Another on the movements of wraiths and vampires.
Ervath listened silently, his green eyes sharp and focused.
Then he spoke softly, but everyone heard his words,
"Who among you will go to White Sea District?"
The room fell silent. The weight of the question hung in the air.
White Sea District was where the realm had opened. It was where the artifact was. It was where hell would break loose.
A man with brown hair raised his hand.
"I will go."
A woman with purple hair nodded.
"I will go as well."
Ervath nodded his head and said,
"Good. Two of you will go to White Sea. Two more will be sent to the borderlands to monitor the wraiths. The rest will oversee the districts and cities."
The room relaxed slightly as they started to organize.
Then, suddenly, one of the assistant’s facial expressions began to change, his mana started to fluctuate, and his eyes glowed faintly.
Immediately, all eight [Origin] rankers in the room turned toward her. The five projections also shifted their attention.
The assistant was a man with black hair. Now, his face turned blank. Then a smile spread across his lips.
Ervath grunted and asked,
"Bewitched. So... who are you?"
The assistant’s voice changed. It became deeper, smoother, and more confident.
"Greetings, human rulers, I am the Vampire King."
The [Origin] ranker whose assistant had been possessed, stared in shock. His face was pale. His hands trembled.
"Since when?" he muttered. "Since when did you...?"
Ervath ignored him. His eyes remained fixed on the possessed man.
"First of all," Ervath said,
"We are not rulers of humans. We are guardians of humanity. Now speak. What do you want?"
The Vampire King smirked.
"Guardians of humanity?"
He chuckled. Then he shook his head.
"Well, I bewitched this little fellow to meet you people. And there is something I do want."
All the [Origin] rankers were watching. Their senses already covered the entire capital city. If the Vampire King tried anything, they would know.
The Vampire King spoke softly.
"What I want is an alliance between humans and vampires."
Ervath’s eyes narrowed. His voice was cold.
"Do you even know what you are saying?"
The Vampire King let out a breath.
"I know you are angry. But how about this: I will make a Mana contract with you humans, as the leader of vampires, that vampires in human districts and cities will leave and no longer harm humans until the end of our alliance."
Ervath was silent for a moment. Then he asked,
"State your conditions and objective."
The Vampire King smiled faintly, as if he had expected this.
"We vampires want the artifact from the realm."
Before he could finish, one of the [Origin] rankers shouted,
"Impossible."
The Vampire King shook his head.
"You are in no position to refuse me. If you humans gain a second artifact, then both the wraiths and we vampires will start a war with you."
The room fell silent once again.
The Vampire King continued.
"If the vampires gain the artifact, then humans, wraiths, and vampires will each have their own artifact. The balance will not be broken. The war will not happen. But if the balance breaks, then it is war."
Ervath sighed and asked,
"So, what is your objective with this alliance?"
The Vampire King smiled sinisterly.
"We vampires and you humans will annihilate the wraith race. As for their artifact, the competent one will get it."
Ervath narrowed his eyes.
"A great war?"
The Vampire King nodded.
"Yes. Think about it, the wraith race is already strong. If they get their hands on a second artifact, then it will be over for us, mana races. The wraiths only care about miasma. If their combatants continue to grow, then the entire world will be flooded with miasma sooner or later."
He paused and added,
"So, I want to cooperate with you, humans. We work together to get the artifact. We stop the wraiths from entering the realm. Once that is done, we will go to war."
Ervath looked at his fellow [Origin] rankers. Their expressions were mixed. Some were angry. Some were thoughtful.
"We need to think about this," Ervath said.
The Vampire King nodded.
"Then I will wait here for your response in three days."
The black-haired man’s facial expression returned to normal, his mana calmed down. His eyes blinked. His expression became confused.
Seeing all the [Origin] rankers staring at him, the assistant nervously asked,
"Did I do something?"
Ervath shook his head.
"For the next three days, you will stay in this room."
...
Meanwhile, in Everbright Academy.
Wind Clone, who was pretending to be Cael, received a message from Lucian Vayne. Luke. His brother. The one who had come back to the academy for the Grand Summit Trials.
Luke did not participate in the selection trials. He had qualifications that allowed him to directly participate in the Grand Summit Trials.
Wind Clone entered the academy cafe and looked for the familiar silver-haired boy.
He spotted Luke sitting beside a window. His hair was fluttering in the breeze. His red eyes were deep in thought.
Wind Clone walked toward Luke and sat before him.
He raised an eyebrow and asked,
"You reached [Platinum] already?"
Luke blinked, coming back to his senses. He smiled when he saw Cael.
"Well, I worked my bones to the limit."
Wind Clone nodded. But he did not believe Luke’s words at all. There was no way a person could grow from [Gold 1] to [Platinum 1] in just six months.
But he did not press on that topic. After all, his own growth rate was even more ridiculous than Luke’s.
"So," Wind Clone said,
"What is the matter? Why did you message me saying it was urgent and important?"
Luke took a deep breath and leaned forward. His red eyes were serious.
"I am planning to kill the Vampire Prince... and I need your help."
