Chapter 96: Move in with me
A few minutes later when Daisy knocked on the windshields, Ryle walked around the car and got inside the driver’s seat.
"What were you saying earlier?" Daisy questioned him as she shifted Angel’s position on her lap.
Ryle had a thoughtful expression on his face when she asked the question. He had one hand on the steering wheel as he reclined on the seat, a frown gradually settling between his brows.
After an eternity passed and Daisy thought he had nothing to say, the man opened his mouth and astonished her with the very words that he uttered.
"Move in with me."
Daisy looked at him like he was speaking in a language beyond the comprehension of humans.
And if it was other times, Ryle would have definitely taken some time off to admire the vivid animated expression on Daisy’s face.
’’Look...’’
’’You are ridiculous,’’ she cut him off, ’’And you don’t even have an ideal time and lace for joking around.’’
’’Which part of my sentence was impaired enough to make you think I am joking around?"
’’Jokes don’t need to be impaired.’’
Ryle scoffed, ’’There I thought you will call my jokes impaired for sure. Seems like you are into my sense of humour after all.’’
Daisy’s lips parted, ’’You...’’
"...an absolute gorgeous creature. Stop simping over me, Miss Chen.’’
Daisy was beyond speechless by the man’s narcissism.
After a long stretch of silence between them, she spoke up, ’’You can’t be meaning what you said.’’
Ryle, for once, had a solemn expression on his face as he responded to her, ’’I am not joking,’’ his gaze landed on Angel, ’’You do not allow me to get Ivy back for you and nowadays it is already very dangerous to hire strangers for babies. That much is a general knowledge thing which is why when you were lying unconscious at my place and I had to stay by your side, I did not get someone new over to take care of Angel.’’
Ryle turned silent for a moment before he continued, ’’Furthermore, I have enemies and there is no way I can take risks with a child.’’
’’But...’’
’’Before you deconstruct my words to your suitability, do reflect on what kind of job you have been doing,’’ Ryle said calmly, ’’Everyone in the social circles knows Dexter as my secretary. Most of them might not be aware of your identity as Daisy but they do know you are one of the top hackers in the world and with your abilities, you can be a great asset to their company. The reason why nobody has touched you yet... is precisely because you belong to me.’’
"I am not an object, nor your belonging. I worked for you.’’
Ryle promptly ignored Daisy’s attempt at fixing his vocabulary as he continued, ’’While most don’t know you as Daisy, some do. For one, your dear friend, Lu Xian. Beyond the disguise of the true heir of the Lu Family, the man is a snake.’’
’’Amusing how he said the same thing about you,’’ Daisy rolled her eyes.
’’I don’t doubt that, sweetheart but you should know that even if I were to be a snake, I would approach you with my fangs retracted. But I doubt you could expect the same from Lu Xian,’’ Ryle smirked when she turned silent at his words. Ways to silent Daisy Chen.
He sighed, ’’Daisy, this is not the first time I gave it a thought. I have been thinking about it ever since the assassination attempt in Shanghai. Although I was beyond furious, but yours and Angel’s safety had been one of my concerns all this time.’’
However, one thing led to another and their arguments kept escalating to the point that he knew that she would never sit and talk with him. And she was way too stubborn for what he wanted her to do.
’’And that is why you assigned people to stay near my place,’’ Daisy glanced at him.
Ryle paused before he scratched his neck, ’’You knew?" Somehow, he had expected that she would know but that still did not help the hint of embarrassment at being caught like that.
The night after she left his place in anger, she had already noticed people monitoring her apartment. Initially, she thought Ryle was up to something but when she gradually made the calculations about that assassination attempt in her head and came to the conclusion that it was orchestrated by some other mastermind, it became more obvious the way those men just seem to hide and track her movements from a distance, never approaching her. As if they were sent to protect her.
Ryle cleared his throat, ’’Those were my only concerns before but what happened today... it should not happen again. You commute through a bike and with Angel’s health, it is better for you to be more than ready for anything, even if it is something just as simple as her being lethargic and weak, like the doctor said,’’ he aptly mentioned the doctor to add credibility to his words so that she would be moved.
’’I can buy a car or I can take cabs.’’
Ryle frowned, ’’Is that it?’’
He did not have to say more for Daisy to understand what he was talking about.
Her reaction today was completely unlike her. Never in her life had felt that numb before. She was scared, even terrified of what went wrong and what might go wrong and she always knew how much she loved Angel but for the first time in her life, she felt the weight that Angel held in her life.
Seeing her falling into a trance, Ryle softened his voice, ’’It will help you and I am suggesting this for your own good.’’
