Chapter 83: How did you manage to get the money?
"Trust me, I had no idea...’’ Diana took Daisy to a silent corner as she whispered.
When Diana had asked Daisy and Ivy over for dinner, the first thing that Daisy had asked was whether Ryle would be coming over too. At that time, Diana had no idea about everything that had transpired between the two people but she had still confirmed it with Maxim who told her that Ryle was busy over the weekend.
’’He told Maxim he was busy. I didn’t know he would show up like this,’’ Diana felt guiltier, especially after knowing everything that had happened in the recent days.
Daisy helplessly hugged the woman who was busy getting flustered, ’’It’s okay.’’
’’How is it okay?" Diana frowned as she hugged her back, ’’If you don’t feel comfortable, you don’t have to stay over for dinner.’’
Daisy stroked the woman’s back before she broke the hug, ’’It’s just dinner. Come,’’ Daisy shook her head as she led Diana to the dining table where everyone was waiting for them.
The reason she had asked Diana if Ryle would be there was because she did not want her to notice anything odd and figure out that something was wrong. The last thing she wanted was for Diana to take unnecessary stress during her pregnancy.
But who could have known Ivy would end up letting the cat out of the bag?
At this point, Daisy had nothing to hide from her sister so she had nothing to worry about.
The dinner, contrary to Diana’s expectations did not go as strange as she had thought it would.
Ryle and Maxim engaged in conversations and the man would even talk to Diana once in a while.
Much to Diana’s surprise, she saw a warm interaction between Ryle with Angel. Angel, who was sitting on Ivy’s lap, right next to Angel, would tug the man’s sleeve every once in a while and the man would scrape a bit of the strawberry cream from the top of his cupcake and give it in her mouth.
Diana felt like her worldview had changed completely. Was Ryle always this much of a gentle person? What exactly happened in the past few days?
The little exchanges did not escape Daisy’s eyes as well.
Daisy could feel Diana’s burning and probing gaze on her head but she did not look up from her plate. She had no answer to offer.
The dinner was over, with each of them lost in their own thoughts. And the only member who was carefree throughout it all was probably Angel who got to eat her fair share of strawberry cream and occasional bites of cupcake.
’’How were your days with the Qin Family?" Ryle questioned Maxim.
’’Fine,’’ Maxim shrugged.
’’I can’t believe how Hazel decided to marry your father suddenly. Are you sure that the man is treating her well? I still can’t wrap my head around it. Is there any chance that he coerced her into it?"
Hazel, Maxim’s mother had raised him single-handedly as a single mother and she was always so keen on staying single until Maxim’s father came into the picture. Sometime before Maxim and Diana got engaged, Hazel got together with Maxim’s biological father. Ryle was pretty close to Maxim’s mother as well and he knew her well.
Diana also joined in the conversation as she said, ’’What coerced her into it? They look happy together.’’
While the living room was full of conversations, Daisy quietly excused herself and went to the washroom upstairs in the guest room.
After washing up, she had just taken a step out of the place when a voice rang beside her.
’’Don’t you think we have things to talk about?"
Daisy halted in her tracks.
She turned to the side and her gaze landed on Ryle who was leaning back on the wall expressionlessly. His easy-going expression from before when he was conversing with everyone was gone as he languidly gazed at her.
Daisy’s gaze briefly went to his lips unconsciously and she immediately looked back at his face, only to see a flash of smugness that flicked through his eyes.
"I don’t think we have anything to talk about,’’ Once she finished speaking, she turned to leave.
But she had just taken a step forward when her elbow was grabbed and she was pressed to the door of the guest room.
Daisy was caught off guard for a moment as she glanced at the man who was staring down at her, almost helplessly.
Ryle stepped towards her, pushing her back till the door opened and Daisy found herself stepping backwards inside the guest room.
’Click’
The man pushed the door with a palm, his gaze fixated on her, ’’I think we do,’’ he whispered as she stepped back from him, ’’I think we do have things to talk about,’’ Ryle repeated.
There was something about the way he was looking at her, or perhaps it was the tone he talked to her with, so gentle, so calm, Daisy could not help but feel like the enormous guest room had somehow gotten smaller in terms of space. There was some sort of tension that lingered in the air.
"How did you manage to get $50 billion?"
The moment he mentioned the compensation amount that he had demanded from her, Daisy immediately snapped back to her senses. She glanced at him coldly, ’’How is that any of your business?"
Ryle’s lips thinned, ’’Tell me.’’
Daisy paused and looked at the man with a sarcastic gaze, one that almost screamed ’Who do you think you are?’
’’Daisy,’’ he called out her name, his voice low.
’’You do not control my actions. And I do not act as per your wishes,’’ Daisy looked him dead in the eyes as she emphasized her words, ’’Now, if you may excuse me,’’ she did not break their eye contact.
And as he looked into her eyes, he knew that she was not going to utter a single word, ’’Is that it?" he strode towards her. Ryle lowered himself till his face hovered over the crook of her neck.
