Chapter 62: The enigma

"Go back home, Alice," Helian Chen’s voice was low but his tone was non-negotiable.

"W-What?"

The man turned to look at his bodyguards, "Escort Madam to home safely."

Alice looked at the man in disbelief. Not only was he sending her away but he was also sending his bodyguards along with her under the guise of protection so that they could keep an eye on her. And did he think she would not notice that?

Her gaze as she looked at him turned indignant.

However, before she could utter a word, the man grabbed her elbow and pulled her closer.

"Don’t make a fiasco. You never know where reporters might possibly be. What if you drop your facade as the ever so calm and composed, elegant Mrs. Chen?"

As if the mention of the media was a trigger, Alice immediately stiffened. Her eyes shrunk and she clenched her fist.

The woman looked at the room full of people with reddened eyes before she strode out of the door, followed by the bodyguards.

Following Alice’s departure, the room drowned in silence. Angel dozed off in Diana’s arms once again.

Nobody present in the room questioned what Helian Chen did to calm Alice down. For Ryle and Maxim, it did not matter whereas Daisy and Diana were used to such scenarios.

Helian Chen approached Diana, "How are you feeling now?"

Diana nodded, "I am good. Maxim has been taking care of him."

The way his daughter snuck in some praise for her fiance did not go unnoticed by Helian Chen. A soft smile appeared on his face before disappearing just as quickly. He nodded at Maxim, "I knew he would take good care of you."

After a few seconds, he spoke up again, "The reason why I am here is not because I was worried that you would not be taken care of. You have Maxim and you also have your sister. I believe they would take care of you better than anyone else."

"Did you find some leads in the case?" Daisy cut to the chase when she saw where it was going. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Helian Chen paused briefly. After a moment of hesitation, he spoke up, "It’s the Si Family."

As he said that, the room drowned in silence.

But nobody noticed that Ryle, who had diminished his presence as he acted non-existent, had a brief reaction when he heard the mention of Si Family. His eyes flashed.

"Why Diana?" Daisy’s fingers curled into a fist. The matter between her and Si Yena was theirs to deal with and Si Yena was the person who betrayed her, not the other way around. Then, how could they have the audacity to plot such a vicious scheme against her sister?

Helian Chen was about to speak up again but he paused when he saw Ryle leaning forward.

As their gazes met, Ryle frowned, knowing that it was impossible for him to get more intel from there.

"Mr. Harper, I’m grateful that you are here to check on my daughter’s condition on account of your friendship with my son-in-law," Helian Chen had long known that not only Daisy worked for him, but Ryle was also a friend of Maxim’s. However, he was also aware that for some reason, Daisy was not very comfortable while discussing her working relationship with the man hence he promptly avoided doing that.

"While I appreciate your concern, there are things I’d like to discuss with them alone, so.."

"Sure," Ryle shrugged a shoulder casually as he turned to walk towards the door, "I’ll be waiting right outside."

Daisy looked at the closed door and breathed a sigh of relief. She did not realize how she ended up lowering her guard to that extent in front of Ryle. If not for her father’s timely action, then her cover would have been blown. Even though the man was clueless about the nature of her and Ryle’s working relationship, he still knowingly or unknowingly helped her.

Unbeknownst to her, the moment Ryle stepped out of the room, he pulled out his phone and called Benjamin.

"Boss..." the man’s groggy voice came from the other side.

"Are you sleeping?"

"Always awake at your service!" Benjamin replied in an exaggerated tone, hoping that Ryle would be touched and let him continue sleeping.

"I was having moral considerations but when you put it like that, I don’t feel any hesitation to put you at work," Ryle quirked a brow.

"Cough cough... Boss..." *sobs* How could you not get the implication? You gave me two days off but now you are making me work again.

Interrupting the man’s internal whining, Ryle spoke up, "Investigate the relationship between the Chen Family and Si Family."

"Huh?" Benjamin was stunned but then he quickly responded, "Alright, I’ll get onto it immediately, Boss."

Ryle hung up and looked at the closed door of the hospital room. He did not know whether the Chens were an enigma or if he was trying to solve a puzzle that did not exist in the first place. What he knew was that it was not going to let him down. Or so he hoped.

Inside the room, Daisy spoke about what was going on in her mind, "I have no doubts since you are saying that. But why would they target Diana? Even if they had to come, shouldn’t they be coming at me?"

"First, you are not an easy target," Helian Chen answered, "Secondly, I never said that the whole Si Family was involved in this matter. It could be one member also."

Daisy’s eyes widened, "You mean..."

"Si Yena," Diana finished her sister’s unfinished words.

Helian Chen sighed, "It is hard to conclude anything for sure. Si Yena seemed to have disappeared into thin air. But it is also hard to eradicate the possibility that this is all related to her," As he said so, he looked at Daisy, "Didn’t you find the unconscious woman familiar?"

Daisy had not paid attention to the woman in the first place but now that her father mentioned it, she could not help but think of that face.

"She.."
