Chapter 61: Abandon the child

And that, from Daisy’s angle, looked like Diana let them in.

"I kept struggling when the man was doing the camera setup while the woman was holding me down," Diana’s brows tugged together. She was also feeling dizzy. Hence, out of desperation, she grabbed the nearest vase and swung it at the woman but before she could escape from there, the man overpowered her.

The rest of her memories regarding the whole incident were blurry and distant. When she opened her eyes, she found herself looking at the white hospital ceiling.

The hospital room fell silent.

Different thoughts were running across everyone’s minds.

At this moment, the door to the hospital room opened, "Of course, you would be clueless about everything," Alice Chen stepped inside.

"Mom?" Diana was surprised.

Daisy frowned when she saw the woman. She did not have a good feeling regarding their mother’s arrival.

Alice’s expression however did not soften in the slightest, "When I warned you against being with this person, you went against my wishes and got together with him. These are the consequences of it all."

Diana’s surprised expression was gradually replaced by a small frown. She tightened her hold on Maxim’s hand, "How is it connected to him?"

"How would I know? You should ask him."

"Mom, this is not the first time I have been to a party. Nothing of this sort has happened before precisely because of the tight security around me. But if you are indicating that Maxim’s family has enemies, then I can say the same thing about us. Maybe, all of it was orchestrated by someone who was targeting the Chen Family."

"That’s impossible!"

As the woman’s voice rose, Daisy pushed herself to her feet, "When you thought Maxim was a doctor without any great family background, you had a problem with him. Now that you know that he is the child of one of the top four aristocratic families in Beijing, you still have a problem. There is nothing wrong with him. You just find it hard to drop your preconceived notions and admit that you are wrong. It would hurt your ego if you will not be stubborn for once," she spoke in a leveled and calm voice.

But Alice lost her composure when she heard Daisy’s rebuttal, "You have the audacity to show your face in front of me and defend Diana? Are you any better than her?" As she spoke her gaze landed on Angel who was sleeping next to Diana.

Daisy stepped forward, blocking the woman’s line of sight.

"When I had the both of you, I was happy. In my unhappy marriage, you two were my only source of happiness," Tears welled up in Alice’s eyes, "I thought you both would grow up and give me everything that I wanted, be the kind of daughters that I wanted you to be and make me proud so that I can raise my chin in the society."

"And you... you.." Alice laughed in self-mockery, her eyes turned red as she pointed her finger at Daisy, "You kept doing odd jobs and stayed away from the family, I did not stop you. You ran away from your own wedding and humiliated me in front of the whole world. God knows what piece of filth you slept with and gave birth to a child. Do you know the humiliations I have had to endure? I cannot go to places without feeling conscious about your abhorrent actions."

"The least you could have done was to abandon the child and..."

"My apologies for interrupting in your family matters," Ryle pushed himself to his feet as he stood in front of Daisy, blocking her entire body behind him, "But this is a hospital, Mrs. Chen."

Alice’s brows tugged together, "Since you know it’s a family matter, see yourself out," she did not look at the man even once, just as she ignored Maxim, not considering them worthy of their attention.

"It’s not your place to tell me what I should do," a playful smile tugged up on Ryle’s face.

"You..." Alice narrowed her eyes and turned her head to look at the man. Her eyes widened briefly in surprise when she saw who it was, "Ryle Harper?"

She observed the man’s stance and could not help but click her tongue, "So, are you here for one of my daughters? Which one?"

Ryle’s face darkened.

’Screech’

Maxim stood up from the chair, "Mrs. Chen..."

Before he could finish speaking, Angel, who was stirred awake by the chaos, started crying loudly.

Diana immediately pulled the girl into her arms as she rocked her back and forth to calm her out.

The atmosphere in the room turned strange with only the sound of the child crying reverberating inside the place.

Daisy inhaled a deep breath and pushed Ryle to the side, "There is nothing we need to discuss with you as of now. If you are done, then leave."

"Is this how you behave with your mother? What do you take yourself for? You..." Alice rushed in Daisy’s direction.

The door to the hospital room was pushed open, "Stop right there," Helian Chen entered the place with two of his bodyguards.

Alice halted her movements, "What are you doing here?" she noticed the bodyguards behind him before she nodded, "If you are here to educate them, that’s better," she could not understand why it was so tough for Daisy and Diana to be obedient for once and listen to what she had to say. Nor did she know how to tell them that whatever she was doing, she was doing it for their own good.

And she hoped if they did not listen to her, at least they would listen to their father’s words. Regardless of what kind of relationship she had with Helian Chen as his wife, she believed the man would at least take a stand for her when it came to their children.

However, the words that he uttered dimmed the light in her eyes.
