Chapter 308: An opportunity

’’Let him be,’’ Si Yena cut the woman off. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

’’Let him be?" Chen Lina’s voice rose, a hint of disbelief in it, ’’Do you realize that the man has been looking for you right after you left? He has flipped the world upside down and expended his entire manpower. What do you think the consequences would be if he found you?"

’’This is not a place he can come and go from easily,’’ Si Yena narrowed her eyes, ’’If he wants to try, let him. If he causes trouble, I will deal with him.’’

’’Aren’t you being too lenient on that man? Are you sure you can even stick to your purpose?"

’’I applaud your guts, Chen Lina, for being able to talk to me like this. No wonder you were played by Daisy like a fiddle,’’ Si Yena chuckled.

Whether that hit a sore spot or not, Chen Lina fell silent.

’’But I will break it down for you so it gets into your thick head. Lu Xian is an insignificant character in this whole game. It doesn’t matter to me whether he exists or not. As long as he is not blocking my way, I won’t waste my breath on him.’’

The next day.

The Kingsley mansion was alive with opulence as Si Yena’s planned Masquerade ball proceeded with grandeur. The grand living room had turned into a ballroom for the night, shimmering with golden light from the crystal chandeliers overhead, casting delicate shadows on the velvet-draped walls. The guests, adorned in dark shaded fabrics and masks, moved gracefully across the polished marble floors, their laughter and chatter blending with the music in an elegant cacophony.

But despite all the liveliness, the gloom in the Kingsley mansion lingered, the place was still enshrouded in a layer of darkness as if all those lights could not permeate through it.

The mansion was busier than ever and so were the servants. Just as Daisy had finished attending to a few guests’ needs, she spotted Maria at the distance standing next to Si Yena with a tray in her hand while Si Yena casually dismissed her.

This has been the scene for most of the evening and at this point, Daisy was not even surprised. She would have assumed it was just a plain interaction between master and servant had she not known that Si Yena would not bother wasting her breath on irrelevant people.

’’Here, this is my daughter, man...’’

And while Daisy could not be bothered about what was transpiring between Si Yena and Maria, this had her full attention when she shifted her gaze following that voice.

Her eyes narrowed subtly when she caught the sight of a man introducing his daughter ’5’3’’, slim and delicate, giving heart eyes to Ryle’ to Nathan.

It was obvious that Nathan had made his intentions behind this masquerade ball clear in his circles. He needed a bride for his son and that had people flocking towards the event with more passion.

Even the tagalongs in the party were elites whose influence could not be underestimated.

Daisy observed the same routine scene where the man introduced his daughter and Nathan stepped to the side after a brief examination of the woman, to give some space to Ryle and her to talk.

This also has been happening for most of the evening. Ryle had Daisy had talked it out and decided to keep up the pretense for as long as it was possible. Yet, Daisy couldn’t let her eyes get accustomed to it. Her eyes were just sore at this point as she watched Ryle interacting with the woman with a calm gaze.

As they moved away, she could see him nodding occasionally at what she said and it had her wondering what was he agreeing with that woman on?

Why was it that he never nodded peacefully when she said something? He put up some back to back arguments talking about cause and effect, this and that before eventually agreeing with her on anything.

Daisy spotted some guests who probably needed some assistance with the directions but she promptly avoided them, not feeling like going there to do her supposed ’job’. They could sue her if they wished.

Probably Daisy looked in Ryle’s direction a tad bit intensely and that had the man turned around. As he looked over his shoulder, their gazes met for a brief moment. His eyes did a quick scan of her face before they met hers again and she spotted a trace of amusement in them.

Daisy felt herself heat up even behind the layer of mask on her face and she turned her face to the side, breaking the eye contact first. What was he looking so amused about? Did she crack a joke to make him laugh? Or something?

Grumbling inwardly, Daisy slowly found an escape from the main mansion and walked off to the servant quarters.

But on her way out, she saw a familiar figure entering the place. Before Daisy could take a second look, the person had disappeared from her view. However, Daisy wondered if it had really been who she thought it was? Why would that person be here at this place?

Daisy walked back to the room she was sharing with Maria and locked the door before approaching a corner of the room. She squatted and tapped the floor with a little pressure on her fist and one of the corner tiles moved.

Daisy removed two hairpins and poked them in two opposite corners of the tile before pressing down on them. The tile was removed and a phone wrapped in a plastic foil came to her view.

Even before she came here, she had been suspicious that there was constant surveillance in the Kingsley Mansion and that had made her take these precautions.

But today, everyone’s focus remained on the party and that gave her an opportunity that she had been looking for.

Daisy switched on her phone and slid it inside her pocket. Since the party was organized in the main mansion, the servant quarters were mostly empty.
