Chapter 290: To settle scores

Las Vegas, US.

"Is she asleep or awake?" Lu Xian eyed Angel who was in Daisy’s arms. While the little girl had her eyes closed, she opened them every once in a while but she seemed far from conscious.

’’Somewhere in between. She is trying to sleep.’’

Lu Xian’s private chopper had just landed in the designated helipad and the sound of chopper blades was rather prominent. The sky was gloomy and the windy weather had the pine trees in the surroundings half bending.

Daisy tightened her scarf around Angel.

"I have noise canceling headphone with me...’’

Daisy shook her head, ’’It’s windy. It will not stay in place,’’ she looked at the weather that seemed to be worsening even further, ’’Let’s just wait till Maxim comes. I called him at an appropriate distance and sent him the location of this place so he should be almost here.’’

Lu Xian followed her gaze, glanced at the sky and nodded. When he turned to look at Angel again, he could not help but say, ’’I believe those peeps were tricked by us.’’

Daisy remained quiet.

The Chen Mansion was heavily guarded not just by her father’s team of guards but also by the elite members that Ryle had arranged there. Since Daisy had wanted to keep her visit here under wraps, her best choice was to leave without Angel.

Lu Xian showed himself at the right time and they left together. But before that, she had made sure to drop Ivy a text.

Hence, after leaving Chen Mansion, they first shook off the trail of the guards that were following her and then Lu Xian’s car waited at an alley in the distance. In some time, Ivy left the mansion with the excuse that she was taking Angel to the Qin Mansion to play with Diana.

Ryle’s guards were fully aware of Daisy’s whereabouts, when she left and where she went but they were clueless about Diana’s details.

Ivy took advantage of that gap and left the mansion with that excuse.

By the time they would discover anything amiss, it would be too late. Or given how perfectly everyone coordinated, chances were that Ryle’s guards would not doubt anything at all.

They were the finest in their profession which is why Ryle had chosen them in the first place for this job. But while they were guarded against an external enemy, they were completely off guard against Daisy because Daisy had never tricked them before. She never had a reason to do so before.

"You know why I am here. I don’t know your purpose,’’ Daisy said instead, looking at the man.

’’Come on, Daisy. You are not as slow. Stop pretending to be,’’ Lu Xian sighed, ’’You should be able to tell that I am here to look here for someone as well.’’

Daisy knew that. She understood that much. But when she thought about it, Lu Xian’s father and elder brother were no more. His mother was not her biological mother and even then, the woman had gone missing. It did not take a genius to understand that the woman was behind the mysterious deaths in the family.

And it was only within her expectations that a person as calculative and powerful as Lu Xian should have already disposed of that loose thread whom he called mother for decades and who turned around and stabbed him in the back so ruthlessly.

So, the only person alive in the Lu family should be their third son, her former fiancee. Daisy’s lips thinned slightly. She would not be surprised if she was told that Lu Xian was here to find that man and dispose of him too, to satiate his vengeance. Even though he had no real involvement in this matter but all that ’Mrs. Lu’ did was for her only biological son after all.

However, still, Daisy had a feeling that it was not his half brother that had Lu Xian on the edge like this.

’’Someone who has left you with insomnia,’’ Daisy remarked, looking at the man who had not had a wink of sleep, just like her.

’’Someone who tricked me rather well,’’ Lu Xian’s face darkened, ’’If I don’t settle the scores, then it would be a pity.’’

Daisy observed the man for a few seconds before she spoke up calmly, ’’You look pitiful for someone who is out for revenge.’’

’’We have a child in room so naturally, I cannot...’’

Lu Xian’s remaining words were lost in the wind as a private plane made its landing on the helipad.

After a few seconds, Maxim came into her view. The man covered the distance between them in a few large strides and took Angel from Daisy’s arms, ’’Am I late?"

Angel had dozed off at some point and upon being shifted from Daisy’s arms to Maxim’s, she moved a bit but found a comfortable position and continued sleeping.

Daisy shook her head before pointing in the distance at the private plane, ’’Last time I left it in your care, I told you it would be useful.’’

Maxim and Diana had been going back and forth from Beijing to LA and Daisy had left her private plane with them, an arrangement which Maxim had called extravagant and unnecessary. Now, the timely reminder from Daisy sounded akin to ’See, I told you. You should listen to me.’

Maxim scowled, ’’You think it is easy to maintain it?"

’’My sister is more high maintenance than this plane. You have yet to get married, so it is only fair that you prove to us that you are worthy of marrying her.’’

Daisy calmly said as she walked towards the car that was arranged by Lu Xian, followed by both the men.

Maxim had cast a displeased gaze in Lu Xian’s way but upon hearing Daisy’s words, he scowled, ’’Just a plane. Not a big deal."

Daisy’s lips tilted slightly after hours of stress. As reluctant as she had been with some random man taking her baby sister away, she did not even realize when she had come to accept the prospect of that person being Maxim.
