Chapter 274: She was dead
In a small hospital located in the suburbs.
Benjamin led Ryle to a private room where a man was waiting for them.
The man exchanged a glance with Benjamin, nodded at him before he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Ryle examined the small room where there was a single shelf near the wall on his right, the cracks on the walls signifying the dilapidated nature of the place.
"This guy is a cleaner here. As he is a regular and an old employee, they have provided him with a place to stay in here,’’ As Benjamin spoke, he walked to the other side of the desk, ’’When the leads pointed to this place, I went through the list of people who could lead us somewhere but I ended up with no clues except for this man who has worked here long enough to know the ins and outs. He did not care.’’
Benjamin pulled a file out from the drawers and placed it on the desk, ’’He only wanted the money.’’
Ryle picked up the file and flipped through the contents.
’Cause of death: Heavy blood loss’
’’Si Yena had run away from her a few weeks after we sent her back to the Si Mansion. She was able to manage it for the first few months outside but the Si family tormented her quite a bit. They blocked her cards and threatened anyone from taking her in so she would realize her fault and go back to them. She did not go back. A few weeks later, she was caught stealing from a supermarket and they called the police. Here...’’
Benjamin played a video on his phone and passed it to Ryle.
In the video, Si Yena could be seen having grabbed a pack of buns amongst other things as she ran away from the supermarket. A few people were on her tail and the things she was holding fell down one by one until the only thing remaining in her hand was the pack of buns that she had stolen. She refused to let go of it until she was far from the line of the camera.
The men were hot on her trails until they could not be seen anymore as well.
’’I visited and talked to those employees who chased her that day. They chased her all the way away from that alley until she was hit by a moving truck. They said they were afraid that they would be blamed so they left her there. That supermarket is in this neighborhood and by the time somebody stepped forward to get her to the hospital, she was in a feeble condition.’’
’’Si Yena is dead...’’ Ryle frowned, ’’is what you are trying to say?"
How she died or what she went through was none of his concern.
’’Yes.’’
’’Here...’’ Benjamin showed the pictures of the corpse.
Ryle nodded, a hint of haziness in his mind. If Si Yena was alive, everything would make complete sense or at least some sense, but with her dead, it was hard to connect the dots that would lead him to the mastermind?
Who was the one who sent his pictures back to the US and sent it to Daisy to make her misunderstand that he was having an affair?
Who incited the incident at the Lu family’s event?
Who razed the Si Mansion to the ground, burning the members alive?
Who was in touch with the woman he was tracking down to find the person who had been involved with Daisy that night?
There was someone who was micromanaging many events behind the scenes but Ryle did not know who it could be if Si Yena was dead.
That woman he had found confirmed that she had seen Lu Xian with Daisy on that night back then. Later, she called someone as soon as she got into the cab, asking them to release her brother.
That meant, somebody abducted her brother to threaten her into this whole fiasco.
And Ryle had a hunch that the person behind this was more or less responsible for every other event that had been happening lately. "Did you find out who that woman was talking to?"
To Ryle’s question, Benjamin shook his head, ’’We hit the dead end no matter how much we looked into that.’’
Ryle dropped the file in his hand onto the desk as he walked towards the window, ’’What about Lu Xian? What is he up to?"
’’There is a lot going on in the Lu Family. It’s all over the media. He hasn’t gone back to the Lu family in a while now. He lives in a hotel.’’
’’So, he is occupied in his own shit.’’
Ryle was aware of Lu Xian’s intentions towards Daisy but it would be too foolish of him to try to fool him into believing that he was Angel’s father.
All it would take would be a simple DNA test before the truth slapped his face unless he knew for sure that he was Angel’s father. Or the person who did this was sure of it.
...
In the VIP suite of a hotel.
Lu Xian stepped out of the bathroom, wiping his hair with a towel. The phone vibrating on the bed caught his attention.
He threw the towel away and walked to the bed before picking up the phone and switched it off without taking a look at the number.
Then, he glanced at the half finished painting lying in the corner of the bedroom. He had gotten the hotel staff to arrange for the canvas and other painting materials but somehow all he could draw on the white page were some black strokes that did not make sense.
Lu Xian walked towards it, shaking his head at the sight of an almost blank canvas. Perhaps it has been too long and he has lost his skills for the things he used to be interested in when he was a teenager.
’’I am heartbroken at being abandoned by you for this white sheet. Do you not feel bad for him?" A familiar sultry voice broke the trail of his thoughts.
