Chapter 272: Stopped to say hi

Daisy looked at his retreating back and supported her chin on her palm, ’’Isn’t he flustered?" she looked at the man from the glass door, ’’He seems... cute.’’

’’Cute,’’ Angel echoed, it was unclear whether she knew what her mommy was thinking or who she was referring to.

Daisy cleared her throat, ’’What all did you do, baby?" she had just shifted her attention to Angel but from the corner of her eyes, she noticed some movement.

As Angel started babbling about her day, Daisy looked up to find that the pleasant expression had long faded from Ryle’s face. There was a hint of violence in his aura that he rarely ever showed around them, his fingers were curled into tight fists till his veins popped and there was an edge to his expression.

...

"There is no need to respond to them,’’ Ryle said calmly, his fists loosening as he sucked in a deep breath.

’’This is not the first time they have reached out. They have been seeking you out for months now, and it has almost been a year since you paid them a proper visit,’’ Locke’s monotonous voice came from the other side, ’’Your father cannot get in touch with you so he has been pressing me on this. I am afraid that if you don’t visit him this time, he might come to find you here.’’

Ryle’s body tensed, ’’Warn him against it. If I see him here, he will be the one to suffer losses,’’ he said in a suppressed voice. He was about to continue speaking when he remembered he was still standing in front of Daisy’s office.

Ryle turned his body slightly and his gaze met hers, concern apparent in the pair of eyes that were focused on him.

Suppressing the frustration and rage coursing through his body, he let out a playful smile and winked at her.

A hint of relief was apparent on her face as she shook her head at him.

Ryle smiled wider. As he walked away from that place, the smile on his face gradually vanished.

’’He says that your grandfather is unwell and you should visit him as soon as you can. I don’t think any threats would work on him as of now.’’

’’I don’t see how it is any of my concern who in that place is alive and who is dead. Handle this well and don’t bring this to me again.’’ Ryle hung up the call.

He was just about to walk back to Daisy’s office when a voice came from behind.

’’Wait, Mr. Harper...’’

Ryle halted and turned to look at Caleb who waved and walked towards him with rushed footsteps. He nodded at the man wordlessly as an acknowledgement.

He was unfamiliar with the man in many aspects but since he treated Daisy well, Ryle had no issues in showing him a pinch of courtesy.

’’Mr. Astor.’’ 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

’’I am surprised to see you here actually,’’ Caleb remarked as he came to stand in front of Ryle.

’’I brought Angel,’’ Ryle said briefly.

’’It must be hard on the little girl. With Daisy occupied here in the office affairs, she must be missing her mother. But it is good to see that you guys are handling it well so far,’’ Caleb said, nodding in appreciation, ’’And that must put Helian’s mind in peace. His daughter and granddaughter both are in good hands. Even though Daisy does not need a man to do good in life but as a father, he had already wanted his daughters to have their own family, be happier... well. Now that she is with you and you both seem to be getting along, it must be a relief to him,’’ he sighed.

Initially, Ryle was the least bit interested in the conversation. Had this person had no relations with Daisy, he would not even have indulged him with a response or acknowledgement whatsoever.

But with the mention of Helian Chen, he could not help but perk his ears a bit. He did not know if that man would really find him to be the right choice for his daughter.

Helian Chen and him had work relations in the past and that was all that there was to it. There was a doubt whether he would want him with Daisy.

Ryle frowned when he thought that way.

’’What are you doing here?" Daisy’s voice interrupted Ryle’s thought process.

He tilted his head to the side and glanced at Daisy who was making her way towards him, while Angel followed her mother with wobbly steps, clutching onto her little finger.

’’I was on a call earlier,’’ Ryle stepped towards Daisy and reached out to smoothen the slightest hint of a frown between her brows.

The action had a few passersby gasping and whispering to each other.

Ryle did not know if it was his illusion but he felt like there was a sense of hostility on Daisy’s face, ’’It was an unimportant call,’’ he spoke up, considering the possibility that she might be angry about how he stepped out of her office to answer Locke’s call.

He had nothing to hide from Daisy but when it came to Kingsley family, the more they stayed away from Daisy and Angel, the better he would like it.

Hence, with his little guilty conscience, he failed to notice that Daisy’s hostile gaze was directed at Caleb who was standing behind Ryle.

’’Are you not busy today, uncle?"

Caleb laughed, ’’Of course. I have plenty of work to do.’’

’’Seeing how you were engaging in idle conversations with my boyfriend who happens to be...’’ Daisy grabbed Ryle’s hand and pulled the man to her side, ’’...very busy, I couldn’t really tell.’’

’’I do things at my own pace,’’ Caleb shook his head, ’’You seem awfully protective of this boyfriend of yours. What can I possibly do to him? I was just passing by and saw him here so thought I should say hi.’’

The man shrugged and chuckled as he turned around and walked away, his posture idle.

Ryle quirked a brow, ’’Sweetheart, why did you have this protective stance just now?’’ Initially he was distracted but he would be blind if he did not notice it at this point that Daisy seemed rather solemn just then.
