Chapter 156: A demotion
Two women appeared to stand behind Daisy along with four bodyguards. From the uniforms, the employees could say that both the women were maids.
’’Elder miss...’’ they collectively bowed and greeted the woman.
’Elder miss?’
Questions and curiousity regarding her identity arose in everyone’s hearts because they knew that even if she was related to Secretary Han, she would not be getting such extravagant treatment in Chen Corporations.
Daisy turned around and handed the sleeping Angel to one of the maids while the other maid promptly took the blazer from Secretary Han’s hands and draped it around her shoulders.
When Daisy turned around this time, everyone was astonished.
’Silence’
Small gasps arose in the sinking silence of the place accompanied with whispers and murmurs.
Secretary Han shook his head in pity and glared at the people who cowered under his gaze. He was fine if these people had to provoke the lioness but did these plebs realize that his job would also be at risk if she was pushed too much?
’’What’s her name?" Daisy did not question the employee whose face had turned pale from the fright that she received. This time, her question was directed at Secretary Han.
’’Rebecca Chen.’’
Daisy’s brow raised slightly, ’’Chen?"
At her repetition, the gazes of the employees and even Secretary Han grew a bit complicated. The employees were curious to see how this matter would be solved now. The only reason they had given so much importance to the woman’s words was precisely because she was a Chen so there might be some ’insider information’, or so they hoped.
"President, she is the niece of the Vice President, your cousin.’’
’Boom’
Everyone had already recognized Daisy when she handed the child over and her face came to their view but Secretary Han’s words left them spiralling in absolute shock.
’President’
’President!!’
That was an explosive piece of news for them. After all, although there were speculations but there was no confirmations yet regarding who woud be taking the vacant position of the CEO. Some people even believed that Helian Chen has just gone on vacations unlike how the reporters suggested that he had gone abroad. But at this moment, Secretary Han’s form of address was like an undeniable confirmation that Helian Chen had indeed left and his position was inherited by Daisy Chen, his elder daughter.
It was also intentional on Secretary Han’s part. After all, he knew that Daisy was in a delicate position despite having every right to inherit her father’s position. So, although he was used to addressing her as ’elder miss’, he knew that each of his moves will be observed and affect her only.
Daisy was unmoved by all these things. Her brain was racing to find any impressions of who the Vice President of the company was.
After all she had not been involved in the company affairs before. The only reason she emphasized on ’Chen’ was because she saw that everyone was paying special attention to the young woman’s words even though they were baseless claims. And that made her certain it was not just someone with the same surname, but it must be a member from one of the branch family of Chens.
’’President?" Secretary Han interrupted her racing thoughts when she remained quiet for a long time.
Daisy nodded at him, ’’Let’s go,’’ she turned around to leave.
"_" Just like that?
Everyone was dumbfounded.
They thought that there will be some ’tea’ but their new President... wasn’t she too soft-hearted?
Or is it just that she was new and she did not dare to stir up troubles, especially after knowing that the girl was the niece of the Vice President and a member of Chen family’s branch only?
It must be that.
’’Rebecca, you got lucky this time. It seems like she is intimidated by your Aunt’s influence in the company.’’
Rebecca Chen smiled stiffly as she thanked everyone. Heavens knew she thought that this was going to be made into a big deal. After all, she had interacted with Diana before in parties and other events but she had never interacted with Daisy.
And to top it off, Daisy had a bad reputation in socialite circle because of the unconventional kind of woman that she was so Rebecca was afraid of her notoriety. Who knew what she might to? But now it seemed to her that she was afraid of nothing in the end.
Just as she was about to let out a sigh in relief and accept the congratulations and praises that came her way, a letter was delivered to her desk.
Perhaps because of the recent fuss, the employees had yet to leave her side. They were also curious about what the letter had to say.
Since Rebecca had assured herself, she had nothing to fear so she simply tore of the envelope and opened the letter but as her eyes skimmed through the contents of the letter, her face turned pale.
’’Becca, what is it?"
Rebecca did not answer. She did not want to but the person who was standing next to her could not help but gasp.
’’She demoted you by two ranks?! You are now the product coordinator’s assistant!"
The place sunk in pin-drop silence.
What soft-hearted? Their new CEO was obviously black-bellied. A small reprimanding or even firing the person would have been less humiliating than a demotion and that too a demotion by two ranks where Rebecca Chen went from the product manager to not the product coordinator but straight up to the product coordinator’s assistant. That was almost equal to being an intern again.
...
Even Secretary Han who was alone with Daisy in the CEO’s office was having similar thoughts. When the woman turned around and left, he, who was waiting for her outburst was dumbfounded as well. He expected her to take some action to establish her position but when she left, he was afraid that she would be taken lightly by others but alas, she surprised him by her decisive skills because the moment they stepped inside the elevator, she relayed her decision to him.
’’President, that was a well executed move!" the man could not help but say.
It took Daisy a few moments to realize that the man was talking to her. She had seen her father being addressed as such since always.
Her reaction was bit delayed but she soon looked up at the man, ’’What move?"
Daisy paused in her movements of stroking the little girl grumpily sitting on her lap. Probably because Angel woke up in an unfamiliar environment, in the arms of unknown people, she was in a bad mood. Daisy had just managed to finish the little girl’s morning rituals but she was still sulking.
’’The way you demoted Rebecca Chen... It’s going to set an example for others in the future and not only that, since it’s your first day at work, it was necessary for you to assert your dominance or else, people would have taken you lightly. So, your decision was rather smart and efficient.’’
Daisy looked at the man for a long time before she sighed, ’’Secretary Han, you must have remarkable background and qualifications.’’
’’Huh? President, I don’t understand.’’
’’My father would not keep you around for so long otherwise,’’ Daisy said softly before she continued stroking Angel’s back gently.
’’Cough...’’ Secretary Han almost coughed up a mouthful of blood. This... Was it necessary to humiliate his IQ and EQ at every juncture? He grieved in his heart but did not let it show on his face as he asked, ’’President, is there any other reason behind your actions?"
Daisy frowned, ’’Unlikeable personality.’’
The poor secretary received a blow on his heart and he staggered a few steps back. He did not know if he should feel happy that he was not demoted or fired. Didn’t that mean that although the President looked down on his intellect, his personality was still likeable to her?
But deep in his heart, he remembered the words Rebecca had uttered. So he knew it must have been Rebecca’s action of calling little missy ’wild child’ that triggered her.
And his guess was true.
...
Inside the conference room.
The shareholders, the directors, and other core of members of the company were already waiting.
’’It has been past 15 minutes. My apologies that my niece is delayed. She must be held back by some matters,’’ A middle aged woman stood up and apologized to everyone gracefully.
Despite her age, she looked rather young and elegant, like a calm person who has faced the vicissitudes of life.
The remaining members looked at each other quietly and nodded before they spoke, ’’Vice President, you are too kind. You don’t need to be too polite to us.’’
