Chapter 144: She will have to
"I never rejected your hatred or anger. It is because of this precisely because somewhere deep down, I knew how much I have neglected the both of you. I tried to be a good husband, in a way it was appropriate for her. All my actions and decisions revolved around her which is why I failed as father,’’ As he spoke, a drop of tear rolled down his cheek as he said, ’’And worst of it all, you know what? If I was given a chance I would do it all over once again.’’
He loved his daughters so much that he would not be able to imagine a life without them.
But his wife.... if something were to happen to her, if she was not a part of this world anymore, then he would find a way to take himself out of it as well.
Daisy did not say anything and stood there silently.
’’What about those people?" It was Maxim who broke the silence.
Helian Chen’s eyes darkened at the mention of them.
Those inhumane beasts. The people who destroyed the girl he cherished with everything he had.
’’They were sentenced for 20 years back then.’’

Both Maxim and Daisy heard did not miss his choice of words.
’’Where are they now?" Daisy asked. Although she had her doubts about the same, but still if they were still breathing, then...
’’I killed them,’’ Helian Chen calmly said as if it was not a murder of four people that he was talking about, ’’When I got the power in my hands, I used to power to get them out of prison. They thought they found freedom and got another chance at life. I let them build their hopes bit by bit before I crushed it at once. They tortured her for hours and I tormented them for years.’’
Madness and rage passed by his face, making him seem almost unrecognizable and insane, so contrasting to the calm and composed business tycoon that the world was familiar with.
Daisy’s clenched fists relaxed when she heard her father’s words.
"Are you the patient’s family?" Urgent footsteps sounded by the door and a nurse entered the room.
Since the entire floor was sealed, the nurse did not bother with the room number and the patient’s name.
’’The patient woke up a few moments ago and while the head nurse was monitoring her condition, she tried to commit suicide again...’’
Her words had yet to finish when a gust of air seemed to have flashed across her as Helian Chen opened the door and walked out. There were two familiar faces near the door but the man walked past everyone as if he could not see anything or anyone.
However, Daisy’s and Maxim’s expressions changed when they saw the people who were standing at the door.
It was Diana and Ryle, the latter was holding a sleeping Angel in his arms.
If one did not know when they had arrived, then Diana’s teary face would reveal that they had been standing there all along for most parts.
Daisy paused for a moment.
Maxim quickly recovered from his daze before he rushed to Diana and pulled her into his embrace.
Daisy walked past them and went to the ICU where it two doctors were having a hard time blocking their father outside while the chief doctor was handling the situation inside.
The man’s eyes had turned red and his veins were bulging and he raised his hand to push the doctor away but small fingers grabbed his palm. He paused momentarily but as he tried to pull his hand back, Daisy held him in an iron-grip and gave the doctors a look, ’’We will wait here. Please take care of the patient.’’
The doctors looked at her gratefully and entered the ICU.
Diana, Maxim and Ryle also arrived at the scene.
’’She will be fine,’’ Daisy’s voice was calm without any fluctuations as if there were no uncertainties in this matter.
Helian Chen shook his head as he covered his mouth with a fist. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he felt like he had become that helpless and weak boy again. The pathetic boy who had stood in the hospital hallway and listened to the doctor’s evaluations of Alice’s sufferings yet who could not do anything except for crying and running away.
"She has been suffering in the past two years. After you ran away from your wedding, Angel’s arrival, Diana’s disappearance.... she was angry just as much as she was tormented but it was when you both broke ties with us did she lose her composure. She was not angry anymore suddenly, she was too calm and too quiet,’’ Helian Chen told them the reason why he was not optimistic about her condition.
He had noticed the abnormalities and in the past few months he had even approached her to smoothen out the things between them so that she could shift her focus from their children but she hated him too much. Whenever he approached her, she would ask him to scheme and make plans to get their daughters back, demanding for Daisy to abandon Angel whom Alice despised because of her unknown origins and Diana to separate from Maxim, all due to her own stubbornness.
Had she asked for anything else, Helian Chen would have given it to her in the blink of an eye but this was something he could not bring himself to do. He had been selfish all his life and only paid attention to what would keep Alice sane, in turn, hurting both his daughters and letting them down in numerous ways. Now that they had found their happiness, he could not bring himself to destroy it.
"It will be fine,’’ Daisy’s words still did not waver in the slightest making the man look up at her.
There was a hope in Helian Chen’s eyes. He did not know why he felt optimistic too when he saw the confidence in her eyes.
’’She is more stubborn than anyone, even her own madness and fears,’’ Daisy whispered and gazed at the closed door, ’’She will overcome this.’’
She will have to.
