Chapter 298: Ghoul Eater!
Su Mo quietly glanced toward Yang Qingxi before speaking in a helpless tone. "I think your explanation completely broke her."
Yang Qingxi blinked once. "...I believe I was correct."
"I know you were," Su Mo rubbed his forehead before.
"But that’s not the point. This isn’t the time for her to go into depression. Go comfort her."
Yang Qingxi obediently walked over, crouching beside Song Meilin. She thought for a moment before speaking as gently as she could.
"Sister Song, you weren’t the only one who was deceived. Everyone in the White Moon Sect was fooled by him, and many people never even had the chance to discover the truth before losing their lives."
"Compared to them, you’re fortunate because you’re still alive, you’ve successfully broken through to the Golden Core Stage, and now you know who the real enemy is."
Song Meilin slowly raised her head and stared at Yang Qingxi for several seconds before letting out a weary sigh.
"Qingxi..."
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
Yang Qingxi gave a small nod, believing her words were effective.

"But..."
Song Meilin continued with complete seriousness.
"Can I offer you one piece of advice?"
"What advice?"
"If you ever need to comfort someone again... please don’t."
"You would put them into further depression."
Yang Qingxi’s expression instantly froze.
Su Mo immediately looked away, pressing his lips together as hard as he could to suppress the urge to laugh. After clearing his throat, he turned to Wu Yuna. "So... was Qingxi’s deduction correct?"
"Yes."
The confirmation came without hesitation.
Su Mo nodded thoughtfully before asking another question.
"If Wu Taeyong succeeds with this plan, what would he have done afterwards?"
"I don’t know."
"Fine," Su Mo shrugged.
"We’ll ask him personally after I beat him up."
His casual tone made Song Meilin glance at him speechlessly, though she lacked the energy to complain anymore. After thinking for another moment, Su Mo remembered another unanswered mystery.
"Madam Shen, what exactly was so special about you? What made Wu Taeyong go to such absurd lengths, faking your death and brainwashing you into becoming his subordinate?"
Wu Yuna answered, "He was attracted...to my special ability."
"Oh, you have a special ability?"
Su Mo’s eyes immediately lit up with interest as he looked at Wu Yuna.
Yang Qingxi and Song Meilin also turned their attention toward her, their surprise evident because none of them had expected there to be this reason behind Wu Taeyong’s obsession with her.
Wu Yuna slowly nodded. "My special ability is called Ghoul Eater. That’s what Wu Taeyong told me. According to him, it is an extremely rare ability that occasionally manifests within our bloodline." She paused for a brief moment before calmly adding, "However, if I use it... I might die."
The room instantly fell silent.
Su Mo, Yang Qingxi, and Song Meilin all looked at her speechlessly.
What kind of special ability was that?
An ability that killed its own owner hardly sounded like a blessing.
Su Mo rubbed his chin before asking, "Why? How exactly does this ability work?"
Wu Yuna replied, revealing her secrets without any hesitation. "By eating ghoul-like creatures raw, I can continuously become stronger. There is also a slight possibility of inheriting some of their abilities."
Su Mo immediately caught the important part.

"What exactly counts as a ghoul-like creature? Do Pishachas qualify?"
"Yes."
Wu Yuna nodded.
"I accidentally ate a piece of a Pishacha’s flesh once. As for other ghost-like creatures... I don’t know. I’ve never encountered any."
Understanding gradually appeared on Su Mo’s face.
"So that’s why you could use those dark energy techniques during our fight." He nodded thoughtfully before continuing, "You obtained those abilities after consuming Pishacha flesh."
Wu Yuna quietly nodded again.
Yang Qingxi couldn’t help speaking with a hint of envy in her voice. "Putting aside the part where you have to eat raw monster flesh..." She paused before honestly admitting, "... your ability is ridiculously powerful. It’s practically broken."
Su Mo looked at her with a speechless expression. She really had the nerve to envy someone else’s small cheat.
He and Yang Qingxi were probably the biggest cheats walking around the cultivation world. Yet she was still jealous because someone else possessed an interesting talent.
Noticing his gaze, Yang Qingxi innocently blinked.
"What?"
Su Mo shook his head.
"...Nothing."
Song Meilin, however, wasn’t paying attention to their little exchange. Her attention remained fixed on Wu Yuna.
"If your ability is really that incredible," she asked, "then why did you say it would kill you? There must be some kind of side effect."
Wu Yuna nodded.
"There is."
"As a human, consuming a ghoul creature causes the corrupt Yin Energy contained within its body to invade mine. That Yin Energy gradually rots my body from the inside."
She lowered her head slightly.
"If I continue eating them...sooner or later I will completely rot to death."
Song Meilin suddenly remembered something. Her expression changed as an old memory resurfaced.
"Xing once told me about the time you saved her when she sneaked out of the sect years ago."
"She said you fought a Pishacha during that incident, and in the middle of the battle... You bit into its flesh." Song Meilin’s voice gradually slowed as realisation dawned upon her. "Not long afterwards, you started becoming sick every now and then."
She stared at Wu Yuna.
"...Was that because of your ability?"
Wu Yuna calmly nodded.
"Yes."
"I only consumed a very small amount of flesh, so the corrupt Yin Energy wasn’t enough to kill me immediately. Instead, it continuously damaged my body, causing those recurring illnesses."
Her expression remained completely indifferent despite her speaking about her own life.
"If I had eaten more...I would’ve already rotted to death."
Silence once again filled the room.
All three of them finally understood why Wu Taeyong had gone through so much effort to keep Wu Yuna alive despite possessing what initially sounded like a powerful but useless ability.

Unfortunately, for an ordinary human being without a way to negate the side effects, using it came with a price that guaranteed death.
Yang Qingxi was the first to break the silence.
"If Wu Taeyong knew all of this, then he must’ve also known a way to solve the side effects." She looked thoughtfully at Wu Yuna. "Otherwise, he would’ve never invested so much effort into capturing and brainwashing someone into his subordinate whose ability couldn’t actually be used."
Wu Yuna nodded. "He did mention a solution."
The three immediately focused on her.
"He said that after his plan succeeds, he will take me to a special place."
"What kind of place?" Su Mo asked.
"I don’t know."
Wu Yuna slowly shook her head.
"He never explained it. He only said that once I reached that place, I would stop being human."
She spoke those words as though discussing someone else’s future.
"Only then...would my ability finally reveal its true value."
The room became quiet once again.
Instead of solving one mystery, Wu Yuna’s answer had only created another.
First, a mysterious treasure like the Evil divination mirror. An unknown method of creating Pishachas. A pure-blooded Pishacha capable of changing forms at will between human and Pishacha.
Now... a mysterious place capable of turning humans into something else.
The deeper they dug into Wu Taeyong’s secrets, the more mysterious his origins became.
Su Mo continued asking several more questions regarding Wu Taeyong’s past, hoping to uncover some clue about where he had come from or who had taught him these forbidden techniques.
Unfortunately, Wu Yuna knew nothing about this. Every answer ended with those same words.
"I don’t know."
After several failed attempts, Su Mo finally gave up.
With a helpless sigh, he leaned back in his chair before turning toward Yang Qingxi.
"So... What now?"
Yang Qingxi casually shrugged. "Simple... Let’s prepare to deal with that old monster. Watch over me as I increase my cultivation. Don’t let the spiritual energy leak."
"Don’t worry." He raised his thumb confidently.
"The barriers are more than strong enough."
Judging from her confidence, Qingxi must’ve secretly accumulated a considerable number of Luck Points.
"Good."
Yang Qingxi nodded with satisfaction before calmly sitting down in a meditation posture.
Meanwhile...

Song Meilin was flabbergasted by their conversation.
She looked at Su Mo. Then at Yang Qingxi.
What in the world were these two talking about?
Prepare to fight Wu Taeyong?
Increase cultivation?
Did they think cultivation was something that could be improved simply by deciding to do so?
Even if Yang Qingxi somehow managed to break through another level, she would remain within the Foundation Building Stage. Against someone like Wu Taeyong, that difference would be no different from throwing pebbles at a mountain.
Before she could voice her doubts, a dense wave of spiritual energy suddenly spread throughout the room.
Song Meilin instinctively looked toward Yang Qingxi.
Her cultivation... was actually at Foundation Building... Level Three.
At the same time, Yang Qingxi’s consciousness had already entered her system.
