Chapter 288: Tomb Raiding, A Skill!

"I’m so scared." Wu Chaochang’s tone full of mockery made it clear he wasn’t scared at all.

Leaning slightly closer, he spoke with obvious ridicule.

"Little lady, do you really take me for a fool?" His eyes narrowed.

"Besides, those father-and-son bastards are already my enemies."

A cold smile appeared on his face.

"If I can’t immediately take revenge against them, collecting a little repayment from their precious daughter-in-law sounds perfectly reasonable. Right?"

Ye Chen’s pupils trembled. Her heart filled with resentment.

’Damn it!’

She wanted to curse Wu Lao and his bastard father.

Curse the ridiculous situation she had somehow become trapped in.

’Your enemies came looking for you, so why am I the one suffering for it?’

The more she thought about it, the more infuriated she became. This was simply unreasonable.

She hadn’t done anything.

Yet somehow she had become the target.

Truly, misfortune loved finding innocent bystanders.

Unfortunately, Wu Chaochang had no intention of standing around while she searched for solutions.

The moment he saw the thoughts flickering behind her eyes, he stepped forward.

He clearly had no interest in giving her time to think of an escape.

Wu Chaochang grabbed her wrist and dragged her toward the bed before forcing her down onto it. Ye Chen landed face-first against the mattress, immediately struggling against the pressure holding her there.

"Let... *mmph*... let me go."

Her muffled protest was met with complete indifference. Wu Chaochang merely pressed her down harder, as though her resistance was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

With a rough motion, he seized the robe she was wearing and tore it away.

For a brief moment, his eyes widened.

The sight of snow white expanse before him caused him to swallow unconsciously. His lips were dry, and he licked them as a greedy smile slowly crept across his hideous face.

"I... beg you..."

Ye Chen’s trembling voice reached his ears.

The smile on Wu Chaochang’s face widened.

"Don’t start begging now," he said leisurely. "You’ll have plenty of time to do that later."

His laughter lingered in the room.

Outside the villa, the morning could not have been more different.

The sky was clear and cloudless. Brilliant sunlight reflected off the vast fields of snow surrounding the residence, causing the entire mountain to shimmer beneath a blanket of white.

A pair of guards stationed near the entrance stood idly at their posts.

One of them yawned. Then he suddenly spoke.

"Hey, have you heard?"

"Heard what?"

"Young Master Wu is planning to propose marriage today."

The second guard blinked.

"Really? To Miss Shen?"

"Haha, not even close."

The first guard grinned mischievously.

"You wouldn’t believe it even if I told you."

"Then stop acting mysterious and tell me already."

"It’s that beautiful young lady who recently arrived at the sect. The one staying here."

"Miss Ye?"

The second guard’s eyes widened slightly.

"I heard she’s incredibly beautiful. Is that true?"

"Incredibly? That’s an understatement."

The first guard sighed dramatically.

"If I could marry a wife that beautiful, I’d probably think Heaven itself was looking after me."

"Keep dreaming."

His companion rolled his eyes.

"A beauty like that wouldn’t even spare you a glance."

"You never know."

The first guard straightened proudly.

"Maybe she’ll appreciate my inner qualities."

"Which ones?"

"My loyalty."

"Bwahahaha!"

"Kekehaha!"

The two burst into laughter.

Neither of them had the slightest idea that the same moment they were joking and laughing, a tragic scene was unfolding inside the residence they were supposed to be guarding.

Within Ye Chen’s room, the bed creaked continuously beneath the strain.

The repetitive sounds seemed strangely familiar.

In her dazed state, Ye Chen suddenly found herself remembering her tomb raiding experience.

The Ghost Valley Tomb.

Back then, she had risked her life exploring it in the names of searching the treasure which can help her gain powerful strength. Unfortunately, the things went awry from then on.

If she had never entered that tomb, perhaps her fate would not have been so worse. Perhaps she would never have found herself enduring such humiliation today.

The irony was not lost on her.

Throughout her life, she had entered countless tombs. Some willingly, some forcefully.

Everytime she was the raider she never showed mercy.

Yet never had she imagined that one day the roles would be reversed.

Now her own tomb was being raided.

And the tomb raider responsible seemed determined to make that fact abundantly clear.

Ye Chen’s thoughts drifted further onto the words she heard from Lu Shixun once.

There was no perfect moment for tomb raiding.

Success depended on circumstances, preparation, and skill.

It was not like inviting guests to dinner.

Nor was it like writing poetry, painting landscapes, or playing a beautiful melody.

Those things could be elegant, refined, or graceful.

Tomb raiding was none of those things.

It was destruction.

A craft built upon breaking seals, opening gates, and uncovering what had remained hidden.

And the tomb raider known as Wu Chaochang appeared to possess considerable enthusiasm for his profession.

The gate of Queen Ye Chen’s tomb had already been breached with force.

The raider showed no intention of retreating.

Instead, he continued his assault with relentless determination, venting his frustrations and desires without the slightest concern for the state of the tomb itself.

The morning passed slowly.

Wu Chaochang seemed exceptionally pleased with himself.

The more satisfied he became, the more Ye Chen felt her patience, pride, and strength gradually being ground away.

At first she had been furious. Then resentful. And finally, exhausted.

Eventually she reached a point where even anger required more energy than she possessed.

She felt like a traveler stranded in a desert after walking for days beneath a merciless sun. While constant earthquakes, made her feel like her body was breaking.

Every thought felt heavy, breathing felt difficult.

Every passing minute stretched endlessly.

If the situation continued much longer, she genuinely wondered whether she might simply collapse and never rise again.

Even her thoughts became sluggish.
