Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Her Family (3)
Vera Xavier, who was nearby, simply pursed her lips into a smile when she overheard the conversation between her grandma and Grandma Dixon. ’The medicine hasn’t taken full effect yet, so it’s normal for them to be skeptical. After all, in their eyes, I’m still just a child.’
Because Vera Xavier had earned the top score in the province on her college entrance exam and been accepted into Veridia University, the house had been bustling with visitors for the past few days. Some came to see Zachary Preston, while others sought out Vera to ask for study tips.
When they saw the medicinal pills drying in the courtyard, they would always ask a few questions before laughing it off. Not a single person believed Vera’s medicine could cure Zachary Preston’s illness. Of course, they wouldn’t say much in front of the Preston Family, but they would sneak in a few jeers once their backs were turned.
Vera didn’t take any of this to heart. In her previous life, she had endured far more doubt and ridicule, so their reactions were well within her expectations.
Zachary Preston didn’t believe these tiny pills could cure his illness either. But since Vera had gone to such great lengths to acquire the ingredients and had painstakingly prepared the medicine herself, he was willing to try it just to put her mind at ease.
However, after taking the medicine for three consecutive days, he discovered that sensation was beginning to return to the side of his body that had been completely numb. Overjoyed, he continued to take Vera’s medicine. A week later, he could even manage to sit up on his own.
This change filled him with immense joy. No one wants to lie in bed, dependent on others for everything. He had thought he was doomed to spend the rest of his life bedridden, never expecting such a miraculous turn of events!
Now that he saw a glimmer of hope, he became much more diligent about taking his medicine and followed Vera’s instructions for various rehabilitation exercises.
Vera was gratified to see his body recovering day by day. ’Even though these pills were just made by mixing the raw herbs according to a recipe and haven’t been properly refined, the effects are still quite good.’
First thing in the morning, Vera received a call: the medicinal herbs she had ordered from Yulara had arrived. She immediately called Aaron Cheney and Yorke Young to help her move them to a warehouse she had already rented.
Since her pharmaceutical factory hadn’t been built yet, she hadn’t actually bought a huge quantity of herbs. It was mostly just the ingredients she needed to make various pills.
’I’m leaving for Veridia soon. To be safe, I should prepare some medicine to keep on hand for emergencies.’
After taking care of these matters, Vera’s thoughts turned to her other family—the Xavier Family. ’Since I’ve been reborn, I won’t let the tragedies of my past life happen again. And for the me I am now, problems that can be solved with money are no problem at all.’
Thus, on the day before she was set to leave Crestfall, she paid a visit to the Xavier Family home.
She hadn’t even reached the house when she heard a commotion from inside. Frowning, she was just about to head in when a young girl burst out and collided right with her.
Caught off guard, Vera stumbled and was nearly knocked over. Fortunately, her reflexes were sharp, and she managed to grab a pillar behind her to stay upright.
The Xavier Family was poor, so they still lived in the old earthen house passed down from her great-grandfather’s generation. Its walls and frame were supported by wooden pillars, and the entire structure looked extremely dilapidated.
The girl looked up, saw who it was, and immediately threw her arms around her in a tight hug. "SOB, SOB... Sister! You’re finally back! I missed you so much!"
Vera looked closely and recognized the girl: it was her younger sister from the Xavier Family, Chloe.
Chloe was only a year and a half younger than her and would be starting her senior year of high school in September.
Chloe took after Mrs. Xavier, with delicate, pretty features. Her figure had blossomed, and she had grown into a charming young woman who was considered one of the village’s prettiest sights.
