Nathaniel Nathan was a natural beacon. Wherever he went, he was the center of attention, and by extension, so was anyone with him.
As they made their way out, Vera Xavier could hear people behind them murmuring:
"I’d heard that Nathaniel Nathan was getting close to the Preston Family’s young lady, but I didn’t really believe it. Turns out it’s true!"
"That girl from the Preston Family and Nathaniel Nathan are actually a pretty good match."
"I know, right? They were both top scorers in the college entrance exams. They’re both incredible people."
"I thought the Preston Family would fall apart after everything that happened. I never expected a young woman like her to hold it all together."
Vera Xavier finally made it out of the compound and let out a long sigh. Okay, whether she was willing to admit it or not, she was in the spotlight now.
Nathaniel Nathan’s car was parked right at the compound’s entrance. He drove Vera Xavier to look at several sites.
Although Vera Xavier had felt a bit self-conscious when she first left with him, she quickly adjusted after they were away from the compound.
Nathaniel Nathan really did have a good eye for these things. The plots of land he’d picked out were all in excellent locations—easily accessible and large enough for her needs.
Land in this era hadn’t been driven up to astronomical prices by speculators like it would be twenty years later; it was still very affordable. Plus, the current Mayor of Crestfall was a progressive leader who encouraged private investment in factories and offered many incentives.
From the options, Vera Xavier chose the largest plot, which also happened to be in the best location. Then, she had Jack Judd handle the purchase of the entire piece of land.
Once that was settled, the subsequent steps became simpler. Building the factory would take a considerable amount of time, and Vera Xavier would soon be leaving for her studies in Veridia, so it was impossible for her to oversee everything personally.
After lunch, Nathaniel Nathan took Vera Xavier to meet Yorke Young. It was his first time meeting her, but he already felt a deep sense of gratitude toward her for giving Aaron Cheney that Emperor Green Jade Pendant.
Before bringing Vera Xavier to meet him, Nathaniel Nathan had already given Yorke Young a general overview of the pharmaceutical factory project. Yorke Young’s own stone factory business was struggling, so after hearing about the plan to build a pharmaceutical plant and clarifying Vera’s intentions, he agreed to come on board.
At this point, the plans for the pharmaceutical factory were finally starting to take shape. However, the actual construction would be a process, and a process that couldn’t be rushed.
Vera Xavier had her own plans for the factory. In the initial phase, they would start with simple medicinal powders and pills. The herbs she had previously bought from Yulara were already sufficient for several common formulas.
However, she wouldn’t be in Crestfall for most of the foreseeable future, so she didn’t have much energy to manage the factory’s affairs. Besides, her main reason for building the factory, when it came down to it, was simply to produce more effective medicine to treat Zachary Preston.
She decided to find an opportunity to hand over the formulas and production processes to Yorke Young, letting him oversee all aspects of the operation.
Grandma Dixon came over to the Preston’s to chat with Grandma. Seeing the medicinal pills drying in the courtyard, she asked curiously, "What are these?"
Grandma smiled and said, "It’s a formula Vera found. She says it can treat the lingering effects of Zachary’s stroke."
Grandma Dixon smiled too. "Vera is such a devoted child. It’s just that I’m afraid nothing short of a miracle pill could cure Zachary’s illness."
She was getting on in years and had heard of many people being paralyzed by strokes, but she had never heard of anyone making a full recovery and returning to normal.
