Chapter 171: Old Weapon

Gwendolyn’s POV

Gwendolyn now knew that she had a war on her hands.

It was disgraceful, a woman of her caliber, forced to fight with a mere preschool teacher. Someone who would be better off as a poor farmer’s wife, wearing those awful clothes that farm girls wore was now a person that Gwendolyn had to put serious effort into eliminating. It was humiliating, yet it had to be done. For whatever reason Ryan had chosen that woman over all others which meant that Gwendolyn had to get rid of her.

Ryan Terrell was hers and no one elses. She was far too gorgeous to lose to such a woman.

So far she already had Vivian’s ex-boyfriend in her clutches. Soon she’d have him in her bed. They’d already done some exercise together with her making sure to show off her yoga moves and Bryce had been very interested.

When the time was right he would be more than willing to harm his ex for her.

With one weapon ready and waiting. Gwendolyn was now on her way to making sure that she still had another weapon to use against Ryan, his own grandfather.

For her current visit she was in a lilac dress, her hair in a bun, her makeup simple and her jewelry not as eye catching as she normally preferred. Most people would take one look at her and just think that she looked good. But Gwendolyn knew that Ryan’s grandfather would take a look and instantly become nostalgic. The last time that she had gone to visit him she had made sure to wear something that she knew would have been period appropriate for his long dead wife to wear. It was the same thing for her current visit. Sentimental old fools were always easier to mess with.

Fruit basket in hand, Gwendolyn walked into the Terrell home and this time instead of being escorted to the winter room like any common guest, she was led deeper into the house.

She ended up in the little orchard that the old man kept on the grounds. As lovely as it was to look at, Gwendolyn was not comfortable at all. There were far too many insects around. But for the sake of her plan she pretended like that did not bother her and instead smiled at Langston Terrell.

"Grandfather!" She called when she caught sight of the old man, making sure that her voice sounded warm instead of irritated. The instant that he saw her, his wrinkled old face lit up and he immediately moved away from the trees, something that Gwendolyn was grateful for, (she had not been looking forward to having to risk leaves falling on her and insects buzzing around her).

She headed over to the gazebo and when the old man finally joined her resting his cane against the wood, Gwendolyn stood and went over to hug him, relieved when the gesture was easily returned-good, Ryan still had not said anything to the old man.

"Grandfather I am so glad to see that you are well,"

The old man laughed softly.

"Here I was thinking that you did not care because I never saw you at the hospital," Gwendolyn smiled sadly at him.

"Didn’t Ryan tell you of my visit?"

Langston Terrell nodded. " He did, but you know how that grandson of mine is. After telling me that you had come to visit, he did not speak on the matter anymore," The old man shared unintentionally making it easier for Gwendolyn to breathe.

Good. Ryan’s grandfather truly knew absolutely nothing about her and Ryan’s falling out. Thanks to his grandson not even bringing her up in his presence, he had no idea that anything was amiss. Which meant that he was still a weapon that she could add to her arsenal.

Pushing the basket that she’d brought with her over to him. Gwendolyn pulled back the cloth that was hiding everything from view.

"These are a few herbs that I had sourced with you in mind, all of them have a specific use. You can add them to the food or drink them as a tea. Just give them to the head chef and she will know what to do with them,"

A tear running down his cheek, the old man smiled warmly at her. "You truly are a sweet child, Gwendolyn. With you on my side I will be back to full health in no time at all,"

Aha! An opening. Laughing softly, Gwendolyn hid her mouth behind her hand. Then she looked at the old man. A serious look on her face as she let the hand fall.

"That is good to hear, grandfather. I was very worried about your health, especially given the current situation," His gaze moving from the herbs that he had been inspecting. Langston Terrell’s sharp blue eyes settled on her. "What situation?" Quickly getting to her feet, Gwendolyn took two steps back, a hand over her chest.

"Nothing, it is nothing, grandfather. Forget that I said anything. Just focus on getting better, okay?" As expected, the old man, shark that he was, had smelled a drop of blood in the water and he was not backing down.

"Gwendolyn, sit down dear child and tell me exactly what it is that you were talking about," Shaking her head, Gwendolyn looked over at the exit. Then she slowly turned back to Langston Terrell.

"I worry that if I tell you what I know you will have a setback,"

Gripping his cane tight, the old man shook his head. "If you do not tell me, that is where I will have the setback, whatever it is that I need to know, tell me," Looking down at her feet, Gwendolyn allowed a brief smile to show before she looked up at the old man. Returning to her seat, she let out a shaky breath and allowed a single tear to fall, her water proof make up coming in handy.

It was show time.
