Chapter 173: 173: Muzan’s S#itting Bricks

The Infinity Castle... Ivan thought of the biwa player who always stayed by Muzan’s side. Nakime.

If he remembered right, her ability was to control the Infinity Castle. Spatial abilities like that still interested him a little. But from his fight with Muzan earlier, it was clear the castle’s movement speed wasn’t very fast. Otherwise Muzan would have just escaped straight into it during the battle instead of throwing Hantengu over as a distraction.

Besides, the Infinity Castle was special. It seemed to have been created by Muzan himself, with Nakime only acting as its manager.

If that was the case, Ivan would have to extract the related Blood Demon Art from Muzan. What worried him was the possibility that the castle was a one-time fluke with unique properties.

From what he knew of the original story, control of the Infinity Castle was singular. Once Muzan handed the authority over to Nakime, he lost it himself.

That was why, when Yushiro took control of Nakime, Muzan chose to destroy the castle rather than let it fall into the Demon Slayer Corps’ hands.

Did that mean Muzan had never actually been able to control the Infinity Castle? He only had the power to create it, not to command it?

What a pain in the ass.

Seeing Ivan frown, Kyojuro couldn’t help asking, "What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? If you’re injured, just say so. I’ll carry you to the nearest clinic."

It made sense. Chasing Muzan Kibutsuji alone and then killing an Upper Rank — how could he be completely fine?

Ivan’s thoughts were interrupted. He blinked, then shook his head. "I’m fine, Rengoku. I was just thinking about some things."

...

"Lord Ivan! Thank god you’re okay!" Murata finally relaxed when he saw Ivan walk in unharmed.

"Where’s Muzan?"

Yushiro came out from the inner room, followed by a slightly tired-looking Lady Tamayo.

"He got away." Ivan bent down, grabbed a clean towel from a wooden bucket nearby, and wiped his face.

His whole body was covered in demon blood — some from Muzan, some from Hantengu. The heat from his skin had already dried it all into useless flakes.

"Lady Tamayo, this place isn’t safe anymore. We need to move as soon as possible," Yushiro said anxiously, with a hint of blame in his voice. If Ivan hadn’t suddenly shown up and ruined their quiet life, their home never would have been exposed.

They had lived in Asakusa for hundreds of years without any demons ever finding them. Now they had to pack up and leave again.

"Yushiro, we were never going to stay in one place forever anyway. As long as Muzan exists, we’ll never have real peace," Tamayo said calmly. She didn’t sound bothered about leaving Asakusa at all.

Lady Tamayo is still so gentle!

Yushiro stole a quick glance at her and sighed inwardly.

"How’s Mukago doing?" Ivan asked after using the hot towel to scrub the dried blood crust out of his hair. He felt much cleaner.

"She lost a lot of blood and is still unconscious, but I’ve already removed the curse from her blood. She should wake up on her own in a little while."

"You can remove curses from demons? Are you Lady Tamayo?" Kyojuro asked in surprise.

Tamayo, dressed in a deep purple kimono, looked a little taken aback. "You know who I am?"

For hundreds of years she had disguised herself as a human doctor, treating poor patients with illnesses no one else could cure. She occasionally asked terminal patients if they wanted to give up their humanity to keep living, but only Yushiro had ever agreed. As far as she knew, she had never revealed her true identity.

Why? Not only did Ivan know about her, but it seemed like even more people did.

"Lady Tamayo, my name is Kyojuro Rengoku. I currently serve as the Flame Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. The Master told me about you. He specifically asked me to invite you to headquarters because we share the same goal," Kyojuro said seriously.

Tamayo hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. Her voice was clear and gentle as she politely declined.

"I’m sorry. I’m just a demon who committed an unforgivable sin. I’m trying to atone in my own way."

Kyojuro had expected the refusal. He didn’t get discouraged and kept going. "The Master said he knows you were once acquainted with Yoriichi Tsugikuni. He understands a little about what happened to you. It wasn’t your fault. You were deceived by Muzan at the time."

Tamayo’s expression softened.

"To prevent more tragedies, we need to join forces against our common enemy. The Demon Slayer Corps also has a swordsman who specializes in medicine and toxicology. The poison she creates is strong enough to kill demons. The Master hopes the two of you can exchange knowledge. Maybe together you can develop a drug that turns demons back into humans."

"Who is she?" Tamayo asked.

"The Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho. She shares your way of thinking. She believes humans and demons can coexist peacefully, but she also despises any demon that harms people." Kyojuro repeated exactly what the Master had told him before he left.

Tamayo nodded gently. "In that case, I would very much like to meet Miss Shinobu."

"Yushiro, please start packing. We’ll leave in half an hour."

"No problem, Lady Tamayo!" Yushiro obeyed without question and actually seemed happy about it. He hurried into the rooms and began stuffing essential luggage into bags. Anything unnecessary got left behind.

"No need to rush. We can leave later. Muzan won’t dare show up for a while," Ivan said. He asked Tamayo where the washroom was, got clear directions, and walked down the long white hallway.

Soon, Yushiro came out pushing several large suitcases.

"Go pack some of your own things too," Tamayo said without even looking. She already knew Yushiro had only packed her belongings.

"Lady Tamayo, I don’t really have anything." Under her gaze, Yushiro lowered his head shyly. In truth, he had brought one thing — his diary. It recorded every little detail of Lady Tamayo’s daily life, down to every single sentence, and he updated it by the minute.

To him, nothing was more important than that diary.

"Then let me help you pack," Tamayo said with a small smile.

"No need to trouble yourself, Lady Tamayo. I’ll do it right away."

Yushiro dashed back into the room. There was no way he would let Lady Tamayo pack his things for him.

...

Elsewhere, inside the brightly lit Infinity Castle.

A section of space rippled. Suddenly a figure burst out of it. The figure clutched its left shoulder and stumbled forward, shattering the floor tiles beneath its feet. Harsh, ragged breathing echoed loudly.

Haa!! Haa!!!

"Hantengu is dead! They actually killed Hantengu that fast!!" Muzan’s pupils were bloodshot. His hair was a mess and his clothes were torn and dirty.

Nakime lowered her head and stopped playing the biwa. She was shocked by the state Muzan was in and worried he might take his anger out on her.
