Chapter 9: Seraphina

"Save... Me...?"

’Save her?’

What does she mean by save her? Am I supposed to be a knight in shining armor for her?

I mean she is the ’the’ final boss, the strongest monster, what is it that she needs me, or real Cian, to save her.

Seriously, I need know what the relationship between me and her really was before it is too late.

"Yeah... Sorry, I was late."

I spoke up.

"But don’t worry. I am here now. I will protect you from everything. You did well holding on."

To be honest, I am the one who wants your protection, not the other way around.

’Whatever, I will try to stay close to her with any way I can and slowly find out about her and this guy.’

I looked down at myself and a sense of dread crept up inside me. The transmigration was supposed to be a good thing, no? But this... This is nowhere near that.

I literally am thrown in an apocalypse world which is on the brink of destruction.

And even if I get the help of strongest being, I still think that it won’t be enough. If really need to life in this life and not only survive, I need to do something else, something bigger and more tiring.

As I was thinking about all of the things I am supposed to for living a life instead of just going through another day, I noticed the blind folded monster bowing her head, perhaps lowering her head slightly in front of me.

’What is she doing?’

I thought and titled my head in confusion. I actually didn’t understand what she wanted to gain by doing so.

Was she bowing in front of me because I am some kind of undisputed lord in her mind, or was it just deeply ingrained, polite reflex?

Whatever, it was. It sure sent a shiver straight down my spine. This sudden shift left me completely frozen, wondering if my ordinary existence meant more than just old friends to her.

While I was watching her, with her head slightly bowed in front of me, a sudden realization hit me.

’M-myabe she isn’t bowing but...’

Without a second thought, I slowly raised my hand and placed it over her smooth crimson hair and stoked it gently like I was praising a child for their good work.

She also leaned into my touched and slightly moved her head to feel my touch even more.

’Is this it?’

It thought subconsciously. It was just an impulse, and sudden thought but I didn’t know this was what she really wanted.

A pat on her head.

Her actions seem utterly human for someone like her.

"You..." Lyra stammered. Her eyes, usually sharp and filled with an icy disdain, were wide with a terror I hadn’t thought possible. "What are you? Cian... what have you done?"

Her question hung in the air, just like the oppressive aura that still pressed down on her, cracking her shoulders and making her breath difficult.

’What have I done, she asks?’

I had merely survived. I had merely bent the world to my will, just as I had intended. The original Cian von Heist would have been a red smear on the pavement, a footnote in Kaelen’s legend. But I wasn’t him. I was a man who knew the script, and I was rewriting it with one bloody, calculated step at a time.

The blind folded monster shifted her attention. Her face, which had been tilted slightly, now subtly angled towards Lyra.

"Don’t... disturb..."

Then, with just a glare... A single glare... Few invisible blade began to slice Lyra’s body at different angle and body parts.

Whoosh!

Swish!

Slash!

"Urrrg,"

Lyra groaned loudly under the sudden attack which were leaving deep slices in her legs arms and at her back. She tired to use her magic and ice but no matter what she did, she was unable to activate her powers. Maybe due to the monster’s presence?

"Wait, Seraphina," I said.

Though it would be revealed after a long time, I already knew what her name was.

The monster girl’s wind blades stopped hitting Lyra instantly. And her attention turned back to me again as she waited for me to say something.

"She is useful," I murmured, looking down at Lyra, whose gaze was still cold and indifferent. "Don’t kill her."

"No... She disturb... Why... Let her... Live..."

Seraphina said as a massive ball of blue materialized above our heads out of nowhere.

"She die... She... look down... on you..."

With that word, the massive sphere of fire which was really really far away began to drop down like a shooting star and the wind blades also continued to assault Lyra as she screamed in immense pain.

At this rate she really is gonna kill Lyra. I have to do something. I can’t let her die just yet. She is the major key point of a future plot.

I immediately grabbed Seraphina’s hand and tugged it slightly.

"Look, she did look down on me. She did threatened to kill me. But that doesn’t matter now that I have finally find you, Seraphina,"

I said.

"Moreover, I still have a few tasks which only she can take care of. So, do not kill her."

The words were not a plea, but a statement of fact. And just as I said that, the crushing pressure on Lyra’s body eased just enough for her to draw small breaths.

The fire sphere stopped still in the sky and the wind blades also halted their assault.

Lyra coughed for once and slowly pushed herself up onto her hands and knees, while her gaze was still fixed on me with a mixture of fear and hatred.

"You think I will obey someone like you? YOU?"

My eyes widened slightly at Lyra’s words and an amused expressions appeared on my face.

"Okay. Then don’t." With that out fo my mouth I let go of Seraphina’s hand and continued, "Okay, Seraphina, kill her."

"Wait... WHAT?!!!" Lyra let out.
