Chapter 7: The Final Boss

"...you’ll end up apologizing in about thirty seconds."

I said that but it didn’t have any effect on Lyra. Instead of lowering the ice spear she just let out a scoof and closed her fist which made the spear to grow even thicker and longer.

"I don’t like being played, Cian," she said with a face that looked completely devoid of any emotion. "You have exactly three seconds to explain why I shouldn’t leave you as a frozen decoration for this garden."

"Heh," I let out and by placing my hand in front of my mouth, I began to laugh mockingly. "Explain? Give you a reason?"

I continued.

"Well, for your kind information. I have none."

Hearing me, her eyes widened slightly, "You... You... Are you really Cian?" She asked.

"Well, does it matter?" I responded while looking straight into her eyes. "And if you are still wasting your time asking me this then you really are pathetic."

Whoosh—!

Suddenly, the ice spear shot forward, and just then a grin appeared on the corner of my lips. Immediately, I threw my entire body to the left and tumbled into the frozen grass.

BANG!

The spear missed my chest and slammed into the stone path. However, I wasn’t completely safe since one of the shattered shards sliced deep into my right thigh.

"Argh!"

A sharp gasp escaped my lips as hot blood instantly soaked through my trousers. The pain was enough to make my vision blur for a second.

Slowly, I dragged myself up against a nearby tree trunk and clutched my bleeding leg.

"Oh?" Lyra tilted her head as her eyes narrowed slightly. "You actually avoided that. It seems the trash has learned how to crawl quickly."

’Shit, this hurts.’

I just wanted to rage bait her slightly and use the commotion to disturb the monster sitting under the weeping tree but looking at it now, the sound may not have even reached her.

’I think I need to escalate the situation a bit more.’

"Hah,"

Instead of crying or begging to Lyra, which she must have thought I would do, I let out a small laugh.

"Haha... Hahaha..."

Witnessing me laugh, Lyra’s brow furrowed.

"Have you finally lost your mind from fear?"

"No," I said as I wiped a streak of sweat and dirt from my forehead. I looked up and stared at the figure sitting beneath the willow tree. "I am laughing because you really have no idea what you just did."

Saying that, I quickly grabbed a piece of ice and aimed it right above Lyra’s face.

"What? You think you can hurt me by my own ice?"

She thought I was aiming for her head but she didn’t know she wasn’t the real target. But it would be too late when she would realize that.

Swish!

With a swift moment, I threw the piece of ice over her head which flew past her face and slammed against the stone bench placed far behind her.

Witnessing me not being able to even aim, Lyra tilted her head slightly and looked at me with a looked of, ’I can’t believe you missed that.’

But I didn’t care about her, since my goal of throwing the ice had succeeded.

At the sound of the ice shattering against the bench, the figure on it finally moved.

The girl clothed in pure white robes slowly lifted her head.

I don’t know why she was wearing it, but even with a thick black blindfold wrapped tightly around her eyes, it felt like she was looking straight at us.

Thump.

My heart kind of skipped a beat. Not because of fear. But because of the thrill of seeing the plot shift right before my eyes.

’Is she going to move now?’ I thought, and a genuine smile appeared on my face despite the pain I was feeling in my leg.

"Don’t say that I didn’t warn you, Lyra," I whispered.

As soon as those words left my mouth, The air in the garden changed in an instant.

The peaceful and serene atmosphere vanished and was replaced by a suffocating pressure that made it difficult to breathe.

Soon, the blindfolded girl stood up from the bench.

As she stepped out from the shadow of the willow tree, beneath her crimson hair, two black horns curved upward from her head became visible.

And as her lips parted slightly, two small yet pointed teeth peeked out.

She was the one.

The strongest, most terrifying final boss of the novel. The one destined to turn this entire world into a wasteland.

When Lyra sensed the sudden change in the atmosphere and the heavy pressure weighing down us, she slowly turned around toward the monster.

"What... is that?" She let out.

For the first time, genuine shock appeared on her face and she instinctively took a step back.

Tap. Tap.

The sound of the monster girl’s bare feet walking across the stone path was the only thing that could be heard in the entire garden.

"Stay back!" Lyra shouted.

Soon, her survival instincts kicked in, and she quickly made three more ice spears and fired them simultaneously at the girl.

Whoosh!

The spears tore through the air and were aimed directly at the monster girl’s vital body parts.

However, even with the approaching spears, the girl didn’t even tilt her head and just kept walking.

Tap.

Tap.

Her walk was slow, really slow, and when the ice spears got close enough to reach her, they suddenly shattered and instantly turned into mist.

"Impossible..." Lyra stammered as her face turned slightly pale. "An academy instructor... a demon... what is this thing?!"

The monster girl may not have shown any powerful movement but her presence alone made Lyra understand that she was something out of her league.

"I told you." I leaned against the pillar and gripped my bleeding leg while watching the scene play out with pure satisfaction.

"This place isn’t a plot hole. It’s a territory. And we just walked right into the den of an absolute monster."

The monster stood a short distance away from us. And when she stopped, the pressure in the surrounding intensified.

"Ugh,"

Lyra was forced down to one knee as the pressure pushed her physical limits to extreme. Her breaths came in gasps as she used all her strength just to keep her head lifted.

Even though I was a bit further away from them, I could still feel the pressure pressing down on my chest.

The blindfolded girl turned her face slightly and, ignoring Lyra, her gaze landed directly on me.

I knew her background. In the novel, she was supposed to awaken much later. And when she did, she was completely insane and bloodthirsty.

She had wiped out half the kingdom just because the Hero had provoked her.

But right now, she was calm.

However... That wasn’t the thing my mind flagged as entirely wrong. It was the black cloth that was currently hiding her eyes.

’Why does she have that?’

Slowly, the monster girl took one more step forward and closed the distance between us, passing the stunned Lyra.

Watching all this, my heart was hammering against my ribs so quickly. This was the gamble. If I was wrong about her nature at this stage of the timeline, I would die right here next to the Ice Empress.

But if I was right...

Then no one would be able to touch me ever... be it monsters, humans, or even dragons.
