Chapter 1723: Chapter 1709
The next day, everything was ready.
Chu Ge and Wen Zaao spent the whole day at home preparing their luggage, packing and repacking. Chu Ge managed to pack just one backpack.
Inside were two sets of clothes, a jacket, and some change of underwear.
After packing, Chu Ge came out of the room and immediately felt flustered when he saw the numerous suitcases in the living room.
"Why did you pack so much stuff?"
Chu Ge asked puzzledly, "Are you thinking of going on a holiday?"
Wen Zaao rolled her eyes at him, "Holiday, my foot. These are all essentials."
Chu Ge walked over to one of the suitcases, opened it, and was stunned by what he saw inside. "Are you sure all of these are essentials?"
He picked out a bottle of skin lotion meant to be applied after a bath and looked at Wen Zaao speechlessly. "We’re going to the deep mountains and forests where managing to eat well and find a place to sleep is already a bonus. Yet you are still treating this as a vacation. You’re pretty carefree."
Chu Ge didn’t hold back and criticized her.
Wen Zaao pressed her lips together. She wasn’t treating it like a vacation; she simply didn’t know what to pack, and as she went on packing, she found everything useful.
Feeling frustrated, she squatted on the floor surrounded by three packed suitcases, each stuffed full.
"What should I do? I’ve never been on a long trip before and don’t even know what to prepare?"
Wen Zaao looked at Chu Ge asking for help. She realized she’d packed too much but couldn’t help finding everything useful as she packed.
"Just pack a few outfits. Once we’re there, you might not even change your clothes,"
Chu Ge said with no exaggeration.
Wen Zaao exclaimed, "Seriously? No change of clothes for several days? Won’t I stink?"
Chu Ge smiled and shook his head, "You won’t necessarily stink, but you’ll definitely be dirty."
Just imagining it made Wen Zaao feel uncomfortable. She rubbed her arms and looked at Chu Ge, her face conflicted.
Chu Ge looked at her firmly and said, "You need to think clearly. You’re going on an expedition, not a vacation."
Wen Zaao pouted and slowly began repacking her luggage.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Chu Ge stood up and walked to the door. Unsurprisingly, he knew Zhou Ang would be arriving around this time.
Sure enough, Zhou Ang stood at the door with a bag of fruit. When he saw Chu Ge open the door, he smiled and said, "Chu Ge, I bought some fruit that you and Zaao love."
Zhou Ang’s tone was relaxed, as if last night’s incident hadn’t happened.
Chu Ge smiled, stepped aside, and gestured for Zhou Ang to come in, "Come in."
As Zhou Ang entered, he noticed the suitcases scattered on the floor and froze, "Are you guys planning to bring all of this?"
Wen Zaao’s lips twitched as she sat on the floor without speaking, but Chu Ge laughed and teased, "She thinks this expedition is a holiday."
Zhou Ang was momentarily stunned, then chuckled. There was a doting look in his eyes when he glanced at Wen Zaao.
Wen Zaao, with her head down, didn’t notice Zhou Ang’s gaze, but Chu Ge did.
Chu Ge stood nearby, raising an eyebrow slightly. Zhou Ang had been quite sullen a few days ago when Wen Zaao was ignoring him, but today he seemed much more pleasant.
It seemed he had come to terms and wasn’t insisting anymore.
Zhou Ang knew that even if he stood here all day, Wen Zaao wouldn’t pay him any attention. He touched his nose, then spoke to Chu Ge: "By the way, I learned something last night and wanted to talk to you about it."
Chu Ge looked at him suspiciously, "Last night?"
Zhou Ang had arrived at eleven last night. It was already late, yet he came over; was it to discuss a matter?
But the way he looked yesterday didn’t suggest so.
These were just Chu Ge’s speculations.
He pondered and looked at Zhou Ang with curiosity, seemingly waiting for him to continue.
He gestured for Zhou Ang to sit, indicating for him to talk.
This action made Zhou Ang a bit uncomfortable. He used to come to Wen Zaao’s house whenever he wanted, treating it like his own home. But now, that had changed.
Chu Ge had a demeanor of being in charge, which made Zhou Ang feel uneasy.
However, it wasn’t the right time for him to fuss over this, so he walked to the sofa and sat down, poured himself a glass of water, and finally looked at Chu Ge seriously.
"You didn’t come over so late last night just to tell us what you learned, did you?"
Chu Ge couldn’t help but ask curiously.
Zhou Ang smiled and shook his head gently. Last night he came out of concern for Wen Zaao’s safety, but what he wanted to say now was the result of his deep thoughts after returning home.
He wanted to use the Wufeng Palace as a point to get closer to them, specifically to ease the relationship with Wen Zaao.
"Do you remember those people who attacked you yesterday?"
Zhou Ang asked, "They have a pattern on their wrists."
Chu Ge nodded. That pattern was strange yet familiar, though he could never recall where he’d seen it before.
"I know where the pattern comes from,"
Zhou Ang read the confusion in Chu Ge’s eyes.
"What origin?"
Chu Ge asked.
With the conversation leading here, Wen Zaao also became curious. Yesterday, she felt Chu Ge and Zhou Ang were hiding something from her, and she was right.
She glared fiercely at Chu Ge and demanded, "What happened yesterday?"
Chu Ge shook his head lightly, "Nothing much, didn’t I tell you? It’s just a minor conflict."
Wen Zaao clearly didn’t believe him, but she knew Zhou Ang hadn’t finished speaking, so she refrained from pressing Chu Ge about yesterday’s events.
Zhou Ang noticed Wen Zaao’s attention shifting to him and felt a tiny bit of joy. He continued, "I know which Sect the pattern belongs to."
He paused, his gaze sweeping over both Wen Zaao and Chu Ge, "That pattern is the totem of the Wufeng Palace."
"Wufeng Palace?"
Chu Ge looked at him puzzled. He was aware there were many sects historically, but didn’t expect there’d be some now.
"If I’m not mistaken, this organization doesn’t belong to our timeline,"
Zhou Ang pondered for a moment and continued, "Years ago, my father and Uncle Wen, Zaao’s father, coincidentally met a person with the last name Wei."
Wen Zaao’s hands clenched on her knees.
"And this person with the last name Wei is the Palace Master of Wufeng Palace."
