Chapter 1718: Chapter 1704
Zhou Ang left his home and headed in the direction of Wen Zaao’s house.
He stopped by a phone store midway, bought a phone, and replaced his SIM card. By the time he got everything done, it was already late.
Looking at the time on his phone, it was already eleven o’clock. By this time, Wen Zaao should be asleep, right?
If he went over so abruptly, would it affect her?
In the past, he never hesitated like this, but now, for some reason, he started having second thoughts. He even wondered if Wen Zaao would be angry if he went over, or if she would despise him.
He couldn’t figure out what had happened between him and Wen Zaao that led to this situation.
Lost in his thoughts, he unknowingly arrived at the entrance of Wen Zaao’s neighborhood. He snapped out of it and looked up at the buildings in front of him.
Finally, he sighed helplessly.
Forget it, better to go back first and come again tomorrow morning.
With this thought, Zhou Ang turned around to leave.
"Chu Ge! I shouldn’t have listened to you! Coming out to buy so much stuff in the middle of the night! It’s so heavy!"
Suddenly, a familiar voice called out.
Zhou Ang turned around puzzled, and saw Wen Zaao carrying a large bag of stuff, walking alone toward the entrance of the neighborhood not far away.
He remembered there was a mall nearby.
"Since when do you know how to live frugally? Making me buy discount stuff, what’s the scheme behind it?"
Wen Zaao was still talking on the phone and didn’t notice Zhou Ang’s presence.
Zhou Ang stood there in silence for a moment; from Wen Zaao’s words, he understood. So late at night, Chu Ge made Wen Zaao come down and buy things; wasn’t he worried she might run into trouble?
The thought that Chu Ge didn’t care about Wen Zaao’s safety made him a bit angry.
Wen Zaao hung up the phone, complaining while heading in the direction of the neighborhood, and noticed a figure standing not far away. The light was dim, so she couldn’t see the face clearly.
But she recognized from the figure that it was Zhou Ang.
This late at night, did he come to her neighborhood specifically, or was he just passing by? The thought flickered in her mind briefly, then she quickly recovered.
No matter the case, it had nothing to do with her, right?
Wen Zaao tossed her head, dismissing all these jumbled thoughts.
She intended to pretend not to see Zhou Ang and just go into the neighborhood, but Zhou Ang took one step ahead and blocked her at the entrance.
"Zaao."
Zhou Ang looked at her with a chilly expression.
Realizing she couldn’t avoid him, Wen Zaao reluctantly responded, "Brother Zhou Ang."
Zhou Ang glanced at the bag in her hand, it seemed quite heavy with a lot of stuff inside. He wanted to help her carry it, but Wen Zaao stepped back to avoid him.
She took a step back, keeping a distance from Zhou Ang, "I can manage myself."
Zhou Ang awkwardly withdrew his hand halfway extended, "It’s so late, why did you buy all this? Are you going to carry it all back?"
Wen Zaao shook her head, "I don’t know, it’s all the stuff Chu Ge wanted."
"He asked you to come down and buy it, and you just did?" Zhou Ang’s anger, already simmering due to Wen Zaao’s attitude towards him, flared up at her coldness.
Wen Zaao didn’t understand where his anger was coming from, looked at him with indifference, and said nothing.
"Do you know Chu Ge is in real danger now?" Zhou Ang’s voice raised by a few decibels.
"He’s in danger?" Wen Zaao, also infuriated by Zhou Ang’s inexplicable bark, felt uncomfortable, "I think you’re more dangerous than him!"
The son of her father’s killer, lurking by her side for twenty years!
Suddenly, a terrifying thought crossed her mind; had Zhou Ang known her father was killed by his father all these years, was that why he tried so hard to care for her and her mother? If that’s the case, then he’s truly scary.
Zhou Ang was stunned, "What did you just say?"
His voice was shaky as he asked, "Did you just say I’m more dangerous than him?"
In Zhou Ang’s eyes, Wen Zaao’s disbelief and disappointment were evident.
"Yes! To me, you are much more dangerous than Chu Ge!"
Wen Zaao said gritting her teeth, "I appreciate you taking care of me and my mother all these years, but if you think you can use that as a means to control me, then you’re delusional!"
Just now, Zhou Ang’s words and tone sounded like commands to Wen Zaao.
Wen Zaao gave him a deep look and said, "I’ll go to Wuling Mountain this time, but we’ll go our separate ways."
Zhou Ang felt a pang in his heart again, looking at Wen Zaao in pain, wondering how he could tell her that Chu Ge was truly dangerous, how he could explain about Chu Ge being ambushed today.
Chu Ge’s existence itself was a danger; as long as he was around, those people wouldn’t give up.
Though he didn’t know yet how terrible those people were, he knew very well they all came from the same place, Wufeng Palace.
They had the same tattoo on their wrists; he still didn’t know why Wufeng Palace wanted to silence Chu Ge, but staying by Chu Ge’s side was extremely dangerous for Wen Zaao.
Zhou Ang couldn’t let Wen Zaao take that risk.
"Whether you think I’m more dangerous than Chu Ge or vice versa, you cannot go back tonight!"
Zhou Ang was worried, worried that Chu Ge would be in danger again tonight, and even decided that Wen Zaao should stay away from Chu Ge for a few days.
Wen Zaao was at the peak of her resentment towards Zhou Ang at the moment, so how could she obediently listen to him?
She gave a cold laugh, eyes filled with disdain as she looked at Zhou Ang, "Zhou Ang, there are many things I don’t know if you’re aware of, if you don’t know, I won’t hold it against you, but if you know and pretend not to, it truly disgusts me!"
Zhou Ang frowned deeply, "What are you saying? Are you talking in riddles? I can’t understand you."
Wen Zaao took a deep breath, trying hard to control herself from lashing out at Zhou Ang. She knew in her heart the grudges of the previous generation had nothing to do with him; he was just a child and didn’t understand back then.
She couldn’t aggravate him again, the last time she did, Zhou Ang had a heart attack and was hospitalized.
She cared a lot about that incident, but she couldn’t put all the blame on Zhou Ang, yet she also couldn’t treat him as she did before, as if nothing had happened.
Zhou Ang glared at Wen Zaao with sharp eyes, "What do you want me to do so you will believe me? Chu Ge is really in a dangerous position right now, do you know it’s not safe for you to stay by his side?"
In the still of the night, even a slight disturbance felt disturbing.
But Zhou Ang almost shouted that last sentence out of frustration, his voice directly alarming the security guard in the neighborhood. Someone poked their head out of the security room, "What’s all the noise in the middle of the night!"
