Chapter 1702: Chapter 1688
Chu Ge quickly took a step back, narrowly avoiding a collision with Director Wang. He cleared his throat and smiled, "Hello, Director Wang."
Director Wang wore a white lab coat, his figure slightly plump, glasses with a gold frame resting on his nose, making him appear very refined.
Chu Ge nodded politely, but still, Director Wang was startled, taking a step back to maintain his distance.
After all, when Chu Ge first arrived in this world, he stayed in this very hospital. The doctors and nurses here had all experienced Chu Ge’s "kindness" back then, and now seeing him still made them nervous.
Chu Ge felt a little embarrassed; he hadn’t realized the impact he’d had was so profound and lingering.
"Y-you, hello,"
Director Wang swallowed nervously, looking at him with a hint of fear. "Is there something I can help you with?"
Chu Ge pointed to Room Seven. "I’d like to ask about the patient in Room Seven."
Director Wang adjusted his glasses, looking in the direction Chu Ge pointed, understanding, "Oh, you’re talking about Mr. Zhou Ang, right."
He still didn’t relax his guard around Chu Ge, inching backward as he said, "Mr. Zhou’s condition is mostly stable now, just needs a few more days of rest."
"Is it safe for him to travel far?"
Chu Ge asked, which was the critical point.
"It’s best not to travel far. Although his condition is stable, heart conditions can flare up unexpectedly."
Director Wang wasn’t sure if it was because he was addressing his professional expertise or that Chu Ge seemed more normal today, but he eased his caution, leaning slightly forward to continue, "If you’re traveling far, a train would be okay, but flying could pose risks. Where are you planning to go? If it’s just for fun, it’d be better to postpone considering Mr. Zhou’s health."
Chu Ge nodded, "Okay, understood. Thank you, doctor."
With that, he turned and returned to the ward.
Watching him leave, Director Wang let out a long sigh of relief, clutching his chest. He really was frightened just now; he definitely didn’t want to end up with a twisted wrist like that previous doctor.
"Director Wang, what’s wrong? Why are you sweating so much?"
The passing nurse looked at him in confusion.
Director Wang wiped his forehead and waved his hand, "It’s nothing."
Chu Ge returned to the room to find Zhou Ang watching him expectantly. Although he had guessed the outcome, there was still a glimmer of hope.
"The doctor said you need to rest."
Chu Ge replied briefly.
Zhou Ang’s smile gradually faded. He lowered his gaze slightly, knowing such an outcome was inevitable.
"I’ve been telling you, your body needs to rest properly. It’s not too late to travel when you’re fully recovered."
The nursing lady chimed in.
Zhou Ang’s lips curled into a faint, bitter smile. He didn’t mind; he could wait even if he couldn’t go in the next few days.
He was just worried that Wen Zaao wouldn’t be able to hold back. Knowing her, the more the situation was like this, the more impulsive she’d be.
He even knew that right now, Wen Zaao wished she could immediately be at Wuling Mountain.
The room fell silent for a moment; no one spoke first.
Chu Ge glanced around, then said to Zhou Ang, "You rest well. I’ll head down to see how Wen Zaao is doing."
Zhou Ang nodded. He wanted to go down with Chu Ge, but remembering Wen Zaao’s cold gaze earlier today, he lost his nerve.
With a sigh, he got up to see Chu Ge out.
By this time, Wen Zaao had come out of the pharmacy, unsurprisingly finding no bloodworm medicine inside.
Wen Zaao couldn’t help but stamp her foot in anger, cursing, "What a ridiculous name!"
Chu Ge, exiting the hospital’s inpatient department, saw Wen Zaao stomping around. He knew immediately that they hadn’t found it either.
He approached her, patting her shoulder.
Wen Zaao turned angrily, "Who is it!"
Seeing it was Chu Ge, her temper cooled somewhat.
"What took you so long to come down?"
Wen Zaao’s tone relaxed, "What were you discussing with him up there?"
Chu Ge chuckled slightly, then shook his head, "Not much."
"Not much, yet you took so long?"
Wen Zaao didn’t believe it. Could he have been talking about her? She was worried Chu Ge might reveal her recent issues to Zhou Ang, even the reason for her anger!
Seeing Wen Zaao’s interesting expression, Chu Ge couldn’t resist teasing her.
"Wen Zaao, are you thinking I might have told Zhou Ang about your issues?"
Chu Ge leaned closer and asked.
As he leaned, a faint, familiar fragrance reached his nose, a scent he knew well from Wen Zaao’s room, even her bathroom often carried this scent.
Wen Zaao pouted, "I wouldn’t be surprised if you did something like that."
Chu Ge’s lips curled into a mocking smile, "I must say, you’ve known me for so long yet still think I’d do such things. Am I that bad in your eyes?"
Suddenly, he raised his hand, pinning Wen Zaao against a column.
Wen Zaao’s heart raced as she felt Chu Ge’s strong presence, her cheeks inexplicably blushing.
She darted her eyes around, too shy to look at him, "I didn’t say anything. I’m just worried that if Zhou Ang asks you about me recently, you’d spill the beans."
Watching her flustered state, Chu Ge’s smile widened. He lifted his other hand and gently tapped her nose, "Don’t worry, we didn’t discuss you at all."
Relieved by his assurance, Wen Zaao looked at him, puzzled, "Then what did you talk about that took so long?"
"Honestly, not much. I just asked the doctor if Zhou Ang could handle traveling."
Chu Ge glanced up at the night sky; tonight, the weather seemed poor, overcast with no stars in sight.
Just like their current mood.
"What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor, of course, recommended rest for Zhou Ang. Aside from his physical condition for travel, even if we reached the station, we couldn’t directly get to Wuling Mountain without traversing the smoke and miasma land. The preliminary part is okay, but getting through that land is the critical issue."
Mentioning the smoke and miasma land made him anxious. They still hadn’t found the bloodworm medicine...
