Chapter 1700: Chapter 1686
Chu Ge was blocked by the shopkeeper; the shopkeeper hadn’t seen Chu Ge’s face. He was chatting enthusiastically with that customer and didn’t have the mind to bother with Chu Ge at all.
At first Chu Ge didn’t pay attention to what the shopkeeper was saying; it was only when the shopkeeper mentioned Blood Worm that Chu Ge began to get suspicious.
He turned his head to look at the shopkeeper, his tone carrying a bit of doubt, and asked, "Is that medicine you mentioned really that miraculous?"
"Of course it is."
The shopkeeper said casually, "You could search all over Shanghai and you wouldn’t find this medicine anywhere else. Only I have it here, because we developed it ourselves. The formula is secret and we never let it out."
Chu Ge stepped forward, wanting to ask a few more questions, but that customer was still worried about his wife and had no mood to stay and listen to the shopkeeper brag, so he left first.
The shopkeeper saw the man leave and stopped talking as well. He looked at Chu Ge curiously and asked, "Sir, what kind of medicine do you want?"
"I’m more curious about that medicine you just mentioned."
Chu Ge’s gaze locked tightly on the shopkeeper, afraid to miss any expression on his face.
The shopkeeper felt Chu Ge looked a bit familiar, and asked doubtfully, "Have I seen you somewhere before?"
Chu Ge smiled slightly. "I don’t think so. I’ve got one of those common faces, so I tend to look familiar to everyone."
The shopkeeper looked at him suspiciously. Really?
Chu Ge wasn’t especially handsome, but at first glance he had that clean, delicate look. He wasn’t particularly tall, but because his figure was well-proportioned, he looked especially energetic as a whole.
The shopkeeper kept feeling that someone as easily memorable as Chu Ge shouldn’t have a "common face"; he must have seen him somewhere and just forgotten.
It actually wasn’t fair to blame the shopkeeper’s memory. When Chu Ge came last night, he was wearing a black jacket and had the hood up when he came in. Combined with the lighting, he really hadn’t seen clearly.
"Boss, what was the name of that medicine you just mentioned?"
Chu Ge asked.
"Insecticide."
The shopkeeper replied, "This medicine works especially well for things like mosquito and insect bites. Didn’t you hear that man just now? His wife was stung by a poisonous bee, and our medicine worked particularly well on her."
He said a bit regretfully, "It’s just that by bad luck, a few days ago someone bought up all of that medicine at a high price."
He sighed and shook his head.
If he wanted to make more Insecticide it wouldn’t be hard, but the main thing was he had promised that person that he wouldn’t produce any more for the time being.
"When will you have new stock?" Chu Ge asked again.
Someone bought it out in one go? Suspicion rose in Chu Ge’s heart.
"At the very least, not for another seven days."
That mysterious person had requested exactly that; even if he wanted to make more to sell, he couldn’t put it on the shelf until a week later!
A week was definitely impossible for Chu Ge and the others.
But he couldn’t shake the feeling that someone buying so much of the same medicine at once was a bit strange.
"Boss, do you still remember who bought all the medicine?"
Chu Ge looked at the boss and asked. If the boss knew who that person was and told him the name, he was willing to pay whatever it took to buy some back from that person.
They were in a hurry to use it; that man had bought so much, there was no way he could use it all up any time soon.
The shopkeeper thought for a moment, then shook his head. "Don’t recall. When that person came, he was wearing a mask. I couldn’t see his face clearly."
Chu Ge pondered for a bit. The tension that had been on the shopkeeper’s face last night was gone; now he obviously was telling the truth.
He made a sound of acknowledgment. "Thanks, boss."
With that, he turned and walked out of the pharmacy. Standing at the door, Chu Ge looked back again at the shop’s sign and silently committed it to memory once more.
Insecticide... bloodworm... a kind of Blood Worm from the Southern Fujian region...
These few key words didn’t seem connected when you put them together, yet if you thought them over carefully, there seemed to be some faint connection.
It was just that what that connection actually was—that was what they needed to dig into.
Chu Ge headed in the direction of the apartment. They hadn’t gained anything the whole day, and the day after tomorrow they were supposed to depart, yet they still hadn’t found bloodworm. It was hard for Chu Ge not to feel anxious.
Were they really going to delay their trip over a single medicine like bloodworm?
As he walked, Chu Ge thought of how Wen Zaao still hadn’t replied to his messages. He took out his phone and called Wen Zaao to ask where she was.
Wen Zaao told Chu Ge that at the moment she was on her way to the hospital.
Chu Ge knew that Wen Zaao was actually very worried about Zhou Ang, she just had a knot in her heart and kept being awkward about it.
"I’m near the hospital too. I’ll come find you."
Chu Ge said. Just right, he also wanted to find a doctor to ask about the Southern Fujian Blood Worm, and at the same time get a better understanding of Zhou Ang’s condition.
Zhou Ang wanted to go to Wuling Mountain with them, but his health seemed to be holding him back.
The two agreed to meet at the hospital entrance.
As soon as they met, Wen Zaao couldn’t help asking, "Did you get any useful leads today?"
Even though they’d been talking all day, she couldn’t resist asking again once they were face to face.
Chu Ge shook his head gently. The shopkeeper’s words replayed in his mind. He pondered for a moment and in the end decided not to tell Wen Zaao about this for now.
He was worried Wen Zaao would lose her cool and run to the shop to question the shopkeeper.
It wasn’t that he thought asking questions would be a problem; he was just uneasy, though he couldn’t quite say what he was uneasy about.
This was probably his instinct as a Martial Artist.
Seeing Chu Ge shake his head, Wen Zaao sighed. She said gloomily, "Another day gone, and we still haven’t gotten anything at all. Are we really going to delay our trip over this medicine?"
"Even if we had bloodworm, do you think we could really set out right now?"
Chu Ge countered.
Wen Zaao looked at him, puzzled. "What do you mean?"
"Zhou Ang’s health is bad, and he hasn’t been discharged yet. If he sets out with us now, I’m worried his heart won’t be able to handle it."
As Chu Ge spoke, a trace of worry crossed Wen Zaao’s face. She pressed her lips together lightly and her gaze dropped slightly.
He had always known Wen Zaao was worried about Zhou Ang, so seeing this emotion show on her face didn’t strike him as strange at all.
On the contrary, if she hadn’t shown this kind of emotion, he would have found it strange.
"All right, let’s not overthink it. We should see what the doctors say about the situation."
Chu Ge said to Wen Zaao, "Let’s go find Zhou Ang’s attending physician first and ask about his condition. Then we’ll go to the hospital pharmacy and see if they have bloodworm."
Wen Zaao nodded and followed behind Chu Ge into the hospital.
Wen Zaao wanted to go take a look at Zhou Ang, but she was worried he might be awake right now. Today he’d been able to get out of bed and move around, had even gone all the way to her place on purpose. If she went now and ran straight into him face to face, she’d die of embarrassment!
