Chapter 158: No Worries: Hannah

After picking up a couple of takeout trays of falafel, gyros, and hummus, I headed into the office building, leaving Nick at the door so he could get himself home; though, he was instructed to take my car back to the charity office parking lot.

It was a bit strange to see just how empty the office was, though I guess it made sense as it was well after quitting time. I headed up to Roman’s office, and took the time in the elevator to collect myself.

I had to let my paranoia go. It was driving me insane, and I knew that if it kept up, it was only going to cause actual problems.

I started to even doubt that all of the cars had been all the same make and model. Hell, what if they hadn’t even all been black? What if they had just been dark shades of colors and my mind was just playing tricks on me? I was about to drive myself insane.

Let it go, Hannah, just let it go.

Taking a deep breath, I tried my best to completely abandon the thoughts. Stepping off of the elevator, I headed over to his office and gave a quick knock on the door before walking in.

He was still sitting at his desk, papers all around him, typing away on his computer. Roman locked eyes with me, and his cold, focus expression warmed.

"Dinner time already?" he commented as he gathered the papers up and placed them in a file.

"Afraid so," I laughed lightly as I placed the bag of food down. I handed him one of the drinks and one of the boxes.

As I sat down, I asked, "How was your day?"

"Oh, you know," he shrugged. "Business, business, business. How about yours?"

"Business, business, business," I echoed with a grin.

We dug into our food and slowly relaxed. I could feel the day and all of the worries that came along with it completely melting away.

There was something about Roman that always managed to make things seem so manageable, so insignificant, so menial. As long as I could spend my nights with him, I knew that things were always going to be okay. Everything else was just stuff to keep us busy, in the grand scheme of things; and I knew that I could always rely on him to help me solve any issue.

The cars came back to mind, and I could feel my pulse quicken.

No, no. That wasn’t an issue that was, in fact, a non-issue. There was no need for me to bring that up and make him worry about me. All it would do was cause him stress, and for what? Because I was suddenly afraid of darkly colored cars? It was illogical. I wasn’t in any danger, and even if I was, there was a reason Roman assigned me a bodyguard.

"I talked to Lori and Lauren today," I nearly blurted out, trying desperately to distract myself from my spiraling thoughts.

"Oh yeah? What about?" he asked, continuing to pick at and eat his food.

"They’ve reserved one of the event centers that are in the family business? Lauren said the gala will be in six weeks’ time. Neither of them seemed stressed about it, but it just feels so soon to me," I admitted.

Roman nodded and gave a little shrug. "I agree that it’s fast, but make sure not to stress about it either. If there’s one thing those ladies can do other than interior design, it’s throw a party."

We shared a light laugh, and I nodded. "I know, I know. I can’t help it. I just want everything with the charity to go smoothly. Though, I’m expecting nothing but bumps in the road."

"Did you talk to contractors today?" he asked.

I nodded in the affirmative and dug in my bag until I plucked two pieces of paper from them and slid them over to him. "They both seem perfectly capable and have estimated about the same amount of time for the project. Though, I have to admit, I really liked the one who is a little more expensive. He seemed really touched by the idea of the charity. Just had this really familiar, uncle-like feel to him."

Roman smiled and scooted the papers back across the desk to me. "Then hire that one. You don’t have to run every little thing by me, you know. If you want something, or have a gut feeling about it, then do it. Who am I to tell my beautiful, kind, and giving wife no?"

"Careful, I’ll think you’re sucking up just because you want something," I laughed, waving off his compliments.

Roman reached and grabbed my hand. "Don’t you ever doubt your beauty, heart, or mind. I think if there’s one thing we have learned through everything that we’ve have been through together, it’s to trust our intuition and to lean on one another when it’s needed."

My cheeks flushed, my mind jumping back again and again to the cars in the city. Was that my intuition, or was that my fragile and nervous mind making mountains out of mole hills?

I still decided to say nothing and focused just on talking to Roman and enjoying my food.

Once we were done with the meal, we cleaned up, tossed the trash, and headed out of the building. I held onto his arm and leaned on his shoulder as we rode the elevator down. Life might not have been perfect, but so long as I was next to him, I knew that things would always feel a little better.

The drive home was quiet. It was a bit different to not have to fight through traffic to get out of downtown, but I was sure that Roman was thankful for it. The traffic could be relentless at times, especially at rush hours.

Getting home, we dragged our tired bodies up to our room and dressed for bed. I couldn’t seem to help myself when I climbed into bed with my tablet, feeling the urge to do just a little more research. Any amount of time I could squeeze out of the day to do my research felt like time unwasted. There was just still so much to figure out and to do, I needed to be as proactive as possible.

When Roman climbed into the bed, he kissed along my shoulder. "You are almost too dedicated for your own good," he commented.

I chuckled. "Do you think that’s possible for a nonprofit?"

He nodded. "If it consumes your entire life, yes. But don’t worry, I don’t think you’re quite to that point yet." He continued to kiss my shoulder and moved his way up my neck. "Why don’t you put work away for the night?"

I let out a breath as I savored his kisses. "Good idea," I murmured and placed my tablet and notebook on my bedside table.

In a matter of minutes, I was melted into his arms.

He kissed all over my body and worked his way down. He tugged my bedroom shorts down and licked down my center. A shiver shot down my spine and my fingers twisted into his hair. He continued to roll his tongue against my sex in slow and deliberate motions.

When I started moaning, he pulled away, and I had to keep myself from whimpering. He moved over top of me and smirked. Before I could say whatever cheeky comment was coming to mind, I felt him push inside of me, so the only thing that sounded from me was a deep exhale.

He pumped his hips in a perfect motion as he covered my mouth with kisses. His hands groped my breasts and twisted my nipples, making my body squirm in the most pleasurable of ways. Everything he did drove me absolutely wild.

"I love you, Hannah," he whispered against my lips. "You mean everything to me."

My nails dug into his back, "I love you too," I moaned.

Sex that night might have been quick, but it wasn’t short on passion or intensity. He whispered that he loved me again and again as he pushed into me, his movements growing rougher and faster. Before long, we were both moaning loudly and clinging to one another as he rapidly brought us to orgasm. By the time he was pulling out of me, we were both panting and holding to each other.

I loved him so much, I could have wept. How was it possible to love someone so much? How could someone like me have landed someone like him?

We kissed and cuddled until we fell asleep.

He made everything feel so effortless. There was never a time that I was more certain that everything would be okay than when I was in his arms. It made me feel silly for ever being concerned that there was any other way. It was just us and the new life we were building with one another.
