Chapter 1488: The Devil Awakens
"Roar!"
A roar burst from deep beneath the earth, powerful enough to shake the soul itself.
Wen Te's expression changed instantly. He retreated at once, his face tightening with caution.
That single roar made his body feel as though it were about to collapse. His soul trembled on the verge of disintegration. Even his limbs would not obey him, shaking uncontrollably.
"So this is the power of an ancient devil..."
Wen Te exchanged a glance with Drucker. Both of them drew in a deep breath, then each took out a talisman and crushed it. A void-like teleportation passage opened before them.
He had prepared an escape route long ago. A short-distance teleportation link had already been established between this place and the barbarian stronghold.
The moment the devil awakened, they would leave immediately through the passage and avoid being caught in its rampage.
Once the creature exhausted its strength and fell back into slumber, it would likely remain dormant for years. At that time, they could return and plunder the treasures within the cavern at their leisure.
Even if they failed to wipe out the Hall of War forces, killing Ling Feng and securing the treasures inside the devil's lair still made the plan worthwhile.
"Hahaha, Ling Feng, stay here and die!"
Drucker laughed loudly. The ground beneath his feet was already trembling violently. Without hesitation, he stepped into the teleportation passage opened by Wen Te.
By the time everything settled, Ling Feng would likely not even leave behind ashes.
Boom!
The heavens and earth shook violently!
Hundreds of li away, even thousands of li away, the entire Hunting Battlefield began to tremble.
The devil merely shifted slightly, yet the resulting shock felt like the end of the world.
Its true power was beyond imagination.
A thousand li to the east, atop a mountain peak, a solemn look flashed in Song Feilian's eyes.
This kind of catastrophic tremor was far beyond anything early-tier Great Emperors could produce.
"So the devil Ling Feng mentioned... it was real!"
Donghuang Xuanyi's face darkened. "If we had stayed in that valley without knowing, we would have been wiped out!"
"The barbarians must have had further plans," Song Feilian said slowly. "No matter what, now that Yang Zhen and the others know about the devil, they should not be foolish enough to remain there!"
He paused, then continued, "Our priority now is to find Ling Feng. His cultivation may be lower, but he has the mind for this. He is far better suited to lead everyone."
In terms of combat, Song Feilian feared no one. But when it came to strategy and leadership, he knew his limits.
He was, after all, nothing more than a battle fanatic.
...
Deep within the devil cavern.
The moment those massive "stone gates" opened, Ling Feng nearly lost his nerve.
Facing a waking devil at such close range sent a chill straight into his soul. His legs trembled despite his efforts to stay calm.
His body refused to listen.
He was certain this creature was even more powerful than the Lord of the Void he had encountered within the Endless Dantian. Only the highest-level devils could summon something like this.
Even with the Void Eye granted by Queen Ke Weili, he could only summon a few Void Tendrils at best.
"Roar!"
A violent force filled the entire space. Ling Feng felt a terrifying pulling force dragging him toward a massive, pitch-black void ahead.
He did not need to guess. That endless darkness was almost certainly the creature's mouth.
Grabbing onto a nearby stone pillar with all his strength, Ling Feng shouted at the top of his lungs,
"I was sent by Queen Ke Weili to rescue the Void Colossal Beast trapped here. If you want to escape this place, wake up and listen!"
He poured every ounce of strength into his voice. To make sure it reached the creature, he amplified it with a soundwave technique, sending the message echoing through the cavern again and again.
Crack!
The pillar he clung to began to fracture. In the next moment, it snapped apart under the overwhelming pulling force.
"Damn it!"
Ling Feng slammed his feet into the ground, trying to anchor himself. Even so, he was dragged forward, carving two deep trenches across the floor.
"I'm finished!"
As he was about to be swallowed by the void, he felt his will collapse.
Then, just as death seemed certain, the massive void suddenly closed.
Ling Feng slammed hard into something that felt like a solid rock wall. The impact left him disoriented. Blood sprayed from his mouth. That single hit nearly took half his life.
The space trembled. A thunderous voice exploded through the void.
"Human, what did you say?"
Another blast of wind surged from the darkness, sending Ling Feng flying again. The deafening voice echoed endlessly, making his ears ring as blood trickled from them. He was nearly deafened on the spot.
"Lord, can you speak through a spiritual manifestation? I'm going to die from your voice alone!"
Ling Feng clutched his ears tightly, but a hint of relief flickered in his heart.
At least... communication had been established.
As long as he could communicate, he had a chance!
Creatures like this all shared one desire. They wanted freedom.
And his Void Eye was the perfect tool to convince it.
"Oh!"
The devil seemed to notice how fragile Ling Feng was. A flicker of dark light gathered, forming a vague shadow before him.
At first glance, it resembled the Rock Giants Ling Feng had encountered in the Sea-Blue Abyss. But this being was covered in bone spurs, with writhing dark tendrils extending from its body.
Void creatures really were nothing but masses of tentacles.
"Human, who are you? How do you know the name of Queen Ke Weili?"
The Void Colossal Beast appeared extremely weak. Even its spiritual manifestation was half-transparent, as if it could disperse at any moment.
It had only awakened temporarily. Once it expended this small reserve of power, it would likely fall back into slumber.
"Of course I know Queen Ke Weili. I am her envoy, entrusted with an important mission!"
Ling Feng forced himself to stay calm and slowly pushed himself up from the ground.
"And you nearly ruined everything!"
Ling Feng locked eyes with the creature.
Now came the real challenge.
He had to sell the lie.
Convince it!
Control it!
Turn the situation around, or die trying!
