Chapter 422: Chapter 422: Thank You For Taking Care Of Me

"Just you," Kai said. "Just... this. Just knowing you’re here."

Maya positioned herself carefully, straddling him but keeping her weight distributed so she didn’t put pressure on his injured side. She took his hands and placed them on her hips, giving him something to hold onto without requiring him to move or exert himself.

"Guide me," she said. "Let me feel what you need."

Kai’s hands gripped her hips gently, and he guided her to position herself over his length. Maya sank down slowly, both of them groaning at the sensation of connection.

From this position, Kai didn’t have to move much. Maya could control the pace, could set the rhythm, could ensure that his healing body wasn’t strained.

She began moving, slowly, deliberately, focusing completely on the sensation of him inside her and the emotional connection flowing between them through their mate bond.

"That’s it," Kai whispered. "Just like that. I can feel how much you love me."

"I do love you," Maya said, continuing her slow, deliberate movements. "So much. More than I thought it was possible to love someone."

She could feel his vulnerability through the bond, his fear of being hurt, his worry about not being strong enough, his deep need to know that he was loved not for his strength but for who he was.

Maya leaned forward carefully, being mindful of his injury, and kissed him. Long, slow, deep kisses that communicated everything her words couldn’t.

"You’re safe," she whispered between kisses. "With me, you’re safe to be vulnerable. You’re safe to let me take care of you."

Kai’s hands found her breasts, cupping them gently, his thumbs circling her nipples with soft pressure. This wasn’t about claiming or possession, it was about connection. About touch as communication.

The pleasure built slowly between them...not frantic or desperate, but deep and grounding. Maya’s movements continued at that measured pace, each thrust going deeply inside him, each withdrawal and return a statement of love.

She could feel Kai’s arousal building, could feel his emotional walls gradually lowering as he allowed himself to be vulnerable in a way he rarely was.

"Come," Maya whispered against his mouth. "Let me feel it. Let me know that I can make you feel good."

Kai’s release rolled through him slowly...not explosive but deep and emotional, his entire body shaking slightly as he came inside her.

Maya followed moments later, her own pleasure rolling through her in waves that seemed to connect directly to her heart.

They stayed joined for a long time afterward, neither of them moving, both of them just breathing hard, feeling the depth of connection flowing between them through their mate bond.

Later, as they lay tangled together, Kai’s arm around Maya’s waist, her head resting on his chest, he spoke softly.

"Thank you," he said against her hair. "For taking care of me. For being strong when I couldn’t be. For loving me."

"Always," Maya said. "For as long as we live, Kai. I’ll always be here for you."

"I know," Kai said. "I can feel it through the bond. That’s what scared me so much when I was injured. The thought of losing you, of not being able to protect you anymore, of being useless to you."

"You could never be useless to me," Maya said, lifting her head to look at him. "You’re everything to me. Not because of your strength or your power, but because of who you are. Because you’re kind and devoted and loving and you see me completely."

Kai’s hand found her face, his fingers stroking gently across her cheek. "I love you so much, Maya. More than I thought it was possible to love someone."

"I love you too," Maya said. "And I’m going to spend the rest of our lives showing you exactly how much."

By the third day, Kai’s wound was completely healed, leaving only a thin white line across his ribs as evidence of the injury.

When Kai finally left the medical wing, he pulled Maya close and kissed her thoroughly.

"Thank you," he said again. "For reminding me that strength isn’t about never needing help. It’s about trusting someone enough to let them help."

"You’ve been teaching me that all along," Maya said softly. "Through claiming me, through making me feel safe and protected and loved. You were just teaching me that strength means allowing yourself to be vulnerable with the right person."

"Then we’re even," Kai said with a slight smile. "And we both learned something important."

POV: Silas

Dawn was just beginning to break when Silas woke.

The morning light filtered through the windows in soft, pale shades of gray and gold. The estate was still quiet...most of the pack hadn’t woken yet. It was that perfect liminal space between night and day when the world felt suspended in time.

And in that suspended moment, Silas found himself completely captivated by the woman sleeping beside him.

Eve was sprawled across the bed in complete relaxation, her dark hair spread across the pillow, one arm thrown across her stomach, her breathing deep and even. She was completely naked beneath the sheets, having shed her nightclothes sometime during the night, and the sight of her peaceful and vulnerable made something shift inside Silas’s chest.

He’d loved her for months now. Had claimed her alongside his brothers, had bonded with her spiritually and physically, had integrated her completely into his life and his heart. But moments like this...quiet moments where he could just watch her sleep, could appreciate her without her awareness...these moments held a special kind of beauty.

Silas moved slowly, deliberately, not wanting to wake her yet. He shifted onto his side, propping his head on his hand, just watching her breathe.

The sheets had slipped down during the night, exposing her breasts to the cool morning air. Her skin was pale in the predawn light, marked in places with fading marks from his claiming, bite marks on her collarbone, bruises on her ribs from where his hands had gripped her during their last intimate encounter.
