Chapter 420: Chapter 420: Going Back Home
Raphael was in communication with Elder Meridian and the other Council members, explaining what had happened, ensuring that Corvus’s attempted curse would be investigated and documented as part of his treason charges.
"This actually helps our position," Raphael said once he’d finished the communications. "It proves the conspiracy wasn’t just about legal maneuvering. It was about a faction leader willing to commit mass murder to preserve power. That’s going to make it much harder for any old guard sympathizers to defend the conspiracy or Corvus’s actions."
"But it also means they’re desperate now," Silas said quietly. "Desperate people make unpredictable moves. Corvus tried to kill Council members. What’s to stop his allies from trying something similar?"
"Nothing," Raphael said grimly. "Which is why security is being increased throughout the Court. Which is why Elder Meridian has authorized full investigation into everyone connected to the conspiracy."
"We need to leave," Damon said. "Not abandon the situation, but return to the pack. We’ve accomplished what we came here to do. The conspiracy’s exposed, Corvus is in custody, the reform is secure."
"But the threat’s still active," Eve said. "The old guard is still out there."
"And will still be out there whether we’re at the Court or at the pack," Damian said, his wounded arm resting against his body. "Raphael and Elena can manage the political fallout. What we need to do is make sure you’re safe, and that the pack understands what happened here so they can prepare for any potential retaliation."
Eve wanted to argue, wanted to stay and ensure every detail was handled properly. But she understood the logic in what Damian was saying. She’d proven herself capable of managing the conspiracy. She’d shown the Court what kind of Queen she could be. Now it was time to step back and let others manage the cleanup.
"Okay," she said. "We’ll prepare to leave tomorrow morning. Early. Before most of the Court is awake."

That evening, as Eve packed for the journey home, she found herself thinking about the cost of the conspiracy’s exposure.
Corvus was in custody, facing exile or execution for his crimes. Aldric would face similar consequences. The old guard faction had been discredited. The reform was secure.
But Damian had been hurt. They’d come close to a magical catastrophe that could have killed dozens of Council members. And the underlying resentment that had driven Corvus and his allies wasn’t gone, it had just been forced underground.
There would be more challenges coming. Eve understood that now with absolute clarity. Exposing this conspiracy didn’t end the conflict between the old way of doing things and the new. It just meant the next challenge would come from a different angle.
Elena found her on the balcony, looking out over the Court one more time before departure.
"You did something important here," Elena said, settling beside her. "You didn’t just win a legal challenge. You proved that truth and evidence matter more than power and politics."
"But it cost something," Eve said. "It cost Damian pain. It cost the Court a near-tragedy. It cost people their positions and reputations."
"It did," Elena said. "That’s the weight of leadership. Making decisions that have consequences, even when they’re the right decisions."
"Is it worth it?" Eve asked. "Is the reform worth the division it’s creating?"
"Ask the factions that now have actual say in their own governance," Elena said. "Ask the Council members who can propose ideas without fear of retribution. Ask the younger supernatural beings who are growing up in a system that values accountability instead of absolute power. Yes. It’s worth it."
Eve nodded slowly, accepting that truth.
"Thank you," she said to Elena. "For everything. For risking so much to expose this conspiracy. For being the kind of ally who acts instead of just talks."
"You gave me a place to belong," Elena said simply. "A place where I matter. That’s worth fighting for."

The portal travel back to the pack territory felt different this time.
Instead of stepping through into uncertainty, Eve stepped through into security. Into the territory she’d fought to protect. Into the pack that had accepted her as Luna and Queen.
Brynn was waiting for them at the portal chamber’s exit, her expression showing relief at their safe return.
"Welcome back," Brynn said, embracing each of them briefly. "I assume the Court business was successful?"
"Successful," Damian confirmed. "The conspiracy’s exposed, the old guard’s been discredited, and the reform is secure."
"And the cost?" Brynn asked, noticing the bandages on Damian’s arms.
"Manageable," Damian said. "Corvus tried to kill Council members with blood magic. He failed. He’s in custody now."
Brynn’s expression went dark with rage. "He did what?"
"Tried a blood curse," Eve said. "Desperate move after his conspiracy was exposed. Damian stopped him before the casting completed."
"Is he hurt beyond the bandages?" Brynn asked, her protective instincts fully activated.
"No," Damian said. "I’m fine. Angry that I let him get that far, but fine."
As they made their way back to the estate, Eve felt the familiar weight of pack responsibility settling back over her shoulders. The Court business was handled. The conspiracy was exposed. The reform was secure.
Now came the ongoing work of maintaining that security, of building something better, of continuing to prove that a different kind of leadership was possible.
It would be difficult. There would be more challenges. But looking at her mates, at Brynn, at the pack territory spreading out before her, Eve felt certain that it would be worth it.

POV: Maya
The message came through the pack link around dusk.
Kai had been injured on patrol. Not seriously, the report said, but seriously enough that he’d been brought back to the estate’s medical wing instead of healing on his own.
Maya felt the mate bond ripple with his pain before she even received the official notification, felt the moment he was hurt through the connection they shared. The sensation made her immediately drop everything and head for the medical wing.
She found him in one of the treatment rooms, his shirt off, a long gash running down his ribs where something...claws or teeth, Maya couldn’t tell, had caught him during whatever confrontation had happened on patrol.
