Chapter 205: Chapter 106: This Holy Light Angel Isn’t All That Great
...
Lynch was a Necromancer who specialized in the path of death, and the gap in tiers between him and the Angel’s projection was immense.
In an instant, he felt his soul sizzle as if it were being scorched, and he staggered, nearly losing his footing.
"Lord Guardian, please, no!"
"My Lord, please stop!"
Two figures rushed forward at almost the same time, positioning themselves in front of Lynch and absorbing some of the pressure for him.
Amadis’s face paled, her purple eyes filled with shock and anger.
She was also a Necromancer and fared no better than Lynch under the pressure of the Holy Light, but she gritted her teeth and held firm.
Avril, meanwhile, spread her arms and shielded them from the very front.
Only a Tier One, her beautiful face instantly lost all color, turning deathly pale. Her delicate, slender body trembled uncontrollably under the immense pressure.
But her clear eyes were exceptionally firm. "Lord Guardian, Lynch is not an evil Death Believer."
"Avril, my child... Don’t be deceived by him." Seeing that Avril was struggling, the Angel had no choice but to withdraw her pressure for now. She spoke with an air of exasperation, "Death Believers like him are experts at bewitching people’s hearts, deceiving naive children like you!"
As the pressure of the Holy Light dissipated, the three of them staggered back a few steps. Though they looked a bit ragged, they all breathed a secret sigh of relief.
Fearing another incident, Avril quickly seized the opportunity to explain, "Lord Guardian, Lynch is a student at Hurst’s Royal Extraordinary Academy, a Knight of the Empire, and the garrison officer for Lakefront Town. He’s been fighting to protect civilians and resist the rebels. He isn’t a liar, he’s a hero."
"A hero?" The Angel glanced coldly at Lynch. "Then how do you explain that profane mark in his soul? The one belonging to the Netherworld Demigod, ’Pale Elegy’?"
When she uttered the name "Pale Elegy," her voice was laced with deep-seated hatred and even a subtle, almost imperceptible trace of fear.
’A Soul Mark from Pale Elegy!?’
At these words, Amadis, her purple hair still slightly damp, widened her eyes and covered her mouth in shock.
Her knowledge of this Demigod was limited to a few scriptures and rumors; all she knew was that this was an ancient and powerful entity within the Netherworld’s divine pantheon.
’How could he have gotten involved with a being of that caliber?’
Hearing this, however, Avril actually breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly explained, "I know about that..."
She quickly recounted everything that had happened in the Storm Mine: encountering the Fallen Paladin, Viscount Golding, as he conducted an evil sacrifice; how Lynch had led them to disrupt the ritual, kill the Viscount, and save over a hundred innocent girls; and how, in the end, he had been targeted by Pale Elegy.
"The Academy, the official council of Saint Roland City, and even the Holy Light Court have detailed investigation files and records on the entire incident."
Upon hearing this, the Angel’s expression softened. Although she still felt an instinctual aversion to Necromancers, much of her hostility and anger had dissipated.
As Lynch breathed a quiet sigh of relief, he suddenly spoke up, "Uh... esteemed Lord Angel?"
The Angel’s indifferent gaze swept toward him.
Lynch said quickly, "My Lord, that Demigod’s mark has been in my soul, and frankly, I can’t eat or sleep because of it. Is it possible for you to... help me remove the mark, without harming my soul?"
This was a genuine plea for help.
’Although Pale Elegy’s mark has brought me some benefits so far...’
’But the problem is, there’s no sense of security.’
’How could a Demigod of the Netherworld truly be easy to deal with?’
’It’s like they say: serving a lord is like living with a tiger. She might give you a treat when she’s happy, but what if she gets upset one day? Or what if she loses interest in a little mouse like me? It wouldn’t be hard for her to just wipe me out.’
’That feeling was just too unsettling.’
’He, Lynch, had his own ace up his sleeve, after all. It might not be powerful enough to let him slay gods and smite Angels instantly, but still...’
’He considered himself a man of extraordinary potential; there was no need to be tied to Pale Elegy’s treacherous ship, risking his life for her benefit.’
’If this Angel could help him remove the mark, that would actually be a good thing.’
However, under Lynch’s gaze of "eager anticipation"...
The Angel fell silent, and even the Holy Light circulating around her seemed to falter for an instant.
"...I am Mijanar, the covenanted Guardian Angel of the Grant Clan. This is merely a projection."
The Angel fell silent for a moment before reluctantly offering an explanation, her voice tinged with a hint of awkwardness.
Lynch quickly pressed, "Then can your true form descend?"
The Angel fell silent once more.
Seeing this, Lynch could only sigh inwardly in resignation.
’I really shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up.’
’He knew it, too. Pale Elegy was a powerful Demigod, after all—one who could do as she pleased in the Netherworld. How could a mark she left behind be so easy to remove?’
’Even the old dean of my academy couldn’t remove this mark.’
’The old dean is a Tier Thirteen Quasi-Saint. This Angel’s wings are silver-white, which should mean she’s also at the Tier Thirteen Quasi-Saint level. I suppose she’s powerless to help as well.’
’I was being too naive.’
Seeing this, a look of clear disappointment and worry also appeared on Avril’s face.
The Angel’s projection seemed a bit embarrassed as well. She feigned busyness by turning her gaze back to Avril, her tone gentle as she advised, "Avril, my child. You must always be cautious and protect yourself while you are out gaining experience. This Ring of Holy Radiance contains most of the remaining Holy Light Power from this projection. You can activate it three times to unleash a [Holy Light Spear], equivalent to a Tier Five attack, for your protection."
