Chapter 71: Chapter 35: Everything Is Based on Your Wishes (3)

The girl shrugged. "It’s not wrong. Feel free."

This made Jiang Li feel a little awkward, so she pulled out her phone to ease the tension.

Just then, she saw a message from Zheng Qi asking when she was free and if she wanted to grab a meal, just the two of them.

Remembering the gossip Shen Yanzhi had told her, Jiang Li’s interest was immediately piqued. She patted Shen Yanzhi, "I’m going to make a call."

Shen Yanzhi stood and stepped aside, pulling Jiang Li’s coat from a nearby basket. "Put your coat on."

After all, with so many people in the restaurant, Jiang Li would surely look for a quiet place to make her call.

Jiang Li reached out and took it. "Got it." She slipped on the coat and headed for the door, phone in hand.

On her way past the cashier, she went ahead and paid the bill.

Zheng Qi was still anxiously waiting for Jiang Li’s reply. She was so surprised to receive a voice call from her that she almost jumped out of her seat. "S-Sister Jiang."

Jiang Li reassured her, "Don’t be nervous. I’m calling because what I’m about to tell you is a bit hard to explain clearly over text."

"Okay, Sister Jiang, go ahead."

Jiang Li organized her thoughts for a moment. "Here’s the thing. A good friend of my husband’s has a crush on you. He’s also your top supporter right now. He was hoping I could play matchmaker and arrange for you two to have a meal together."

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qi let out a sigh of relief.

’And here I was, thinking it was something so important that Jiang Li had to call me about it. Turns out it’s just this.’

She did remember her top supporter, after all.

He’d asked to meet her through private messages before, but she had never replied.

It’s hard enough to know a person’s true intentions face-to-face, let alone over the internet.

You never know if the person on the other end is a good person or a total creep, so how could she possibly agree to meet just like that?

However, since he was a friend of Jiang Li’s husband, his character couldn’t be that bad. There was no harm in meeting him once.

’After all, if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have gotten this far so quickly.’

"Alright, let’s have a meal then. I can use it as a chance to thank him in person."

Jiang Li pressed her lips together, her expression turning serious. "I don’t want you to agree just because of me. If you don’t want to meet him, then don’t. This is completely up to you."

Zheng Qi was touched. "Actually, I wanted to thank him anyway, I just wasn’t sure how," she explained. "Now that I know he’s your husband’s friend, I should definitely meet him."

Jiang Li breathed a sigh of relief, worried that Zheng Qi had felt obligated to agree. "In that case, are you free tonight?"

"I can be!"

Jiang Li nodded. "Alright, tonight it is. I’ll send you the time and place."

"No problem."

She normally streamed every night, but since it was an invitation from Jiang Li, she could always start a little earlier.

A thought occurred to her, and she asked, "By the way, Sister Jiang, do you happen to know what your husband’s friend likes?"

"I don’t know him that well either. I’ve only met him once. All I know is that he owns a clothing brand."

Figuring that Zheng Qi might want to get Lu Zhi’an a gift, she said, "I’d suggest a pair of cufflinks or a tie."

’After all, you can’t really go wrong with either of those things.’

’Then again, with it being Zheng Qi, Lu Zhi’an would be over the moon even if she just showed up without a gift at all.’

"Okay, I got it."

"Thanks, Sister Jiang."

Jiang Li didn’t waste any more words. "Okay, see you tonight."

"See you tonight."

She hung up and returned to the restaurant to find the other three had already finished eating.

When the girl saw Jiang Li return, she protested, "Sister, how could you go and pay the bill by yourself?"

Jiang Li smiled. "Our meeting was fated. Treating you to a hot pot meal isn’t going too far, is it?"

"You’re making us feel bad."

Shen Yanzhi raised an eyebrow. "If you feel bad, then study hard."

"Don’t even mention it. We both go to a vocational college. It’s not like we have bright futures ahead of us."

"We’ll have to get jobs after graduation anyway. We might as well start working now and ease the burden on our families."

Jiang Li didn’t dismiss their thinking. Instead, she asked gently, "Well, have you two thought about what you want to do?"

"We’re planning to get factory jobs. At least they cover room and board."
