Chapter 70: Chapter 35: Whatever You Wish (Part 2)
The restaurant was air-conditioned, and Jiang Li, feeling hot the moment she walked in, immediately shrugged off her jacket.
Shen Yanzhi smoothly took it and placed it in a nearby basket meant for clothes.
Jiang Li pulled her phone from her bag and scanned the QR code for ordering on the table. "What kind of broth do you guys want?"
The two girls looked at each other, then back again, before one of them tentatively suggested, "How about a split pot?"
Jiang Li nodded in agreement. "So we’ll all just order our own things?"
"Okay."
Once they agreed, Jiang Li got down to business, ordering mostly meat dishes, along with soy products like dried tofu and tofu skin.
Besides the food, she also ordered a few drinks.
After placing the order, she tugged on Shen Yanzhi’s sleeve and whispered, "Since we ran into them, it feels like fate. Let’s treat them, okay?"
Shen Yanzhi chuckled softly and nodded. "I have no objection."
It was just the cost of a hot pot meal; it wasn’t as if they couldn’t afford it.
What made him happy was that Jiang Li had taken the initiative to discuss it with him. It showed she was genuinely trying to build a life with him.
Jiang Li snapped her fingers. "Great, it’s settled then."
A smile played in Shen Yanzhi’s eyes. "Wait here for me. I’ll go make the dipping sauces."
With that, he stood up and left without a moment’s hesitation.
Two minutes later, Shen Yanzhi returned with four bowls in his hands.
Two were empty, and two held identical dipping sauces.
He placed one of the sauces in front of Jiang Li. "I made this based on the sauce you had last time at the hot pot place. See if it’s the same."
Jiang Li glanced at the sauce. It contained crushed peanuts, houttuynia, millet peppers, minced garlic, scallions, cilantro, and MSG.
She then looked at Shen Yanzhi, a little surprised. "I didn’t realize you paid such close attention."
It was, indeed, the exact dipping sauce she always had, down to the last detail.
Hearing her words, Shen Yanzhi finally sat down. "Looks like I didn’t get it wrong."
Jiang Li gave him a thumbs-up. "Not bad! A top student is a top student, after all. Your learning ability and memory are amazing!"
Shen Yanzhi just smiled without saying a word. What he didn’t say was: ’The prerequisite is that it has to be you.’
After all, a person’s brain capacity is limited. How could one remember so many miscellaneous things?
Only the most important person is granted that privilege.
Just as Shen Yanzhi returned with the sauces, a waiter brought over the broth.
In the middle was a tomato and enoki mushroom soup, and the outer ring was a fiery red broth with a mountain of chilies and Sichuan peppercorns floating on top—the kind that would make anyone from out of the province get a stomachache just by looking at it.
"It smells amazing."
"No wonder this place is so popular. The food must be delicious."
Just as the broth came to a boil, a waiter pushed a cart over and placed the dishes one by one on the table.
Before Jiang Li could even move, Shen Yanzhi started adding some of the items that needed longer to cook, then began blanching the tripe with practiced dips.
The two girls watched as Shen Yanzhi placed the freshly cooked tripe into Jiang Li’s bowl and couldn’t help but exclaim, "Wow! Your husband is giving you the first bite. Sis, you’re so lucky!"
Jiang Li flushed at their words, concurring from the heart, "You’re right. I am pretty happy being married to him."
Shen Yanzhi’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He rinsed Jiang Li’s chopsticks in the hot broth for her. "And I’m pretty happy I married your sister."
"Whoa! We just came for hot pot; we didn’t expect to get stuffed with PDA."
"And a royal feast of it, at that!"
Jiang Li laughed. "You’re exaggerating."
Then she urged the two girls, "You guys need to start cooking too! Or you’ll go hungry!"
Throughout the meal, Jiang Li’s only job was to eat, while Shen Yanzhi was responsible for cooking the food, serving it to her, and doing so without a single complaint.
They say that when you watch the one you love, even something as simple as eating becomes a delight to the eyes.
In Shen Yanzhi’s eyes, it was as if Jiang Li was seen through a special filter.
No matter how he looked at her, she was adorable; no matter how he looked at her, she was beautiful.
It wasn’t until Jiang Li let out a small burp and said, "Okay, I’m full. Don’t give me any more," that Shen Yanzhi finally stopped.
She looked down at the few pieces of meat left in her bowl with a hint of regret. "It’s a shame to waste this food."
Shen Yanzhi replied nonchalantly, "Why would it be a waste? I’ll just eat it."
He reached for Jiang Li’s bowl and, before she could even react, had already started eating from it.
Jiang Li stared at Shen Yanzhi in shock, grumbling inwardly: ’Isn’t he supposed to be a clean freak? What happened to that?’
"I mean, seriously! Do you have to be like that? You’re even scraping her leftovers clean!"
Hearing this, Jiang Li instantly understood. Shen Yanzhi was probably only being selectively *not* a clean freak because there were other people around.
Shen Yanzhi looked up and raised an eyebrow. "We’re a married couple. What’s wrong with me eating her leftovers?"
