Chapter 214: Reactions.

Ma Shuai 801: I looked out earlier. It is way too quiet out there. No cars, no delivery people, nothing. It honestly does not feel real.

Zhang Ming 2001: My dad said the roads leading out of the district got blocked off yesterday. Something about the military trying to contain the situation before it spreads further into the city.

Old Chen 405: If that is true, then we are all basically stuck in this building whether we like it or not. No water coming in, no water going out through the pipes, and apparently no way to leave either.

Liu Fang 605: This is starting to sound less like a temporary outage and more like something much bigger is happening. I really hope I am wrong about that.

Wang Wuyang 1103: Honestly at this point I just want someone official to tell us anything at all. Even bad news would feel better than complete silence.

........

After sending that message, Bai Li was far too lazy to waste another second paying attention to Hu Xuecheng’s temper tantrum. She closed WeChat and mentally contacted the system bound to her mind, asking silently, "System, help me check exactly how many level 1 zombie crystal cores I have accumulated now?"

"Of course, dear! I just checked the tally for you," the system’s smooth, metallic voice rang out clearly inside Bai Li’s mind. The tone was calm and neat, almost like it was reading out a grocery list, but the number it gave still made Bai Li stop and think for a second. "Adding the seventy-nine crystal cores you had left over back at the hospital, the various zombies you hit while driving on the road, and the extra zombies you have personally killed over the past few days, you now have a grand total of one hundred and fifty-six level 1 zombie crystal cores."

Bai Li stood there for a moment and let the number settle in her head. One hundred and fifty-six. That was not some huge mountain of wealth, but it was also not nothing. At the very least, it meant she was not totally broke in the middle of this mess. She had really started to understand how hard these crystal cores were to come by. Every single one of them had to be earned with real effort, real risk, and real luck. If she made one stupid mistake, she could lose half of them in a blink. Thinking back to the last time she had dealt with the interdimensional market, Bai Li could not help feeling a little annoyed at herself. She had been too rushed, too confused, and too easy to fool. She had spent way too many crystal cores on things that did not give her much real value. That kind of waste would not happen again. This time, she had to keep her head clear and count every core carefully before she took out anything.

After she rested her muscles a little longer, Bai Li slowly got up. Her body still felt a bit tired from all the fighting she had already done, but it was not the kind of tired that made her want to stop. It was more like the kind of tired that sat in her bones and told her she had pushed herself hard, but could still keep going if she stayed smart. She walked over to her clothes and changed again, putting on sturdy fighting gear that would be better for moving fast and protecting herself. She made sure everything fit right, because clothes that got in the way during a fight were just trouble waiting to happen. Once she was dressed, she checked her sword, adjusted the strap on her backpack, and took a breath to calm herself down.

There were still a lot of useful things left in the small supermarket downstairs. Bai Li had already seen that place with her own eyes, and she knew it was packed with food and supplies that could keep them going for a while. Canned food, instant noodles, biscuits, bottled water, snacks, even some basic daily items. In a normal time, those things would have been ordinary and boring. In a time like this, they were worth their weight in gold. Bai Li wanted to make a few quick trips and move as much as she could back upstairs before other people started thinking too hard about what was down there. If she could fill her space storage quietly, then nobody would know how much she had taken. That was the best part. She could carry far more than anyone expected, and she did not have to look suspicious while doing it. On top of that, she also wanted to go out into the open courtyard and kill more zombies. The more she fought, the more crystal cores she could gather. The more cores she had, the more room she had to work with in the market. Everything now came down to one simple thing. Get stronger, get supplies, and do it without making a mess.

This time, Bai Li did not plan on bringing Yan Cijin with her. It was not because Yan Cijin was useless. It was simply because the girl’s small backpack had almost no carrying capacity at all. Even if Yan Cijin worked hard, she could only take a little bit here and there. Bai Li, on the other hand, had her own huge spatial storage, and that changed everything. If she brought Yan Cijin along, it would only slow things down and make the whole trip harder to manage. Bai Li also did not want to explain too much. The less people knew about what she could really do, the safer it would be for her. In this kind of world, hiding one more secret was never a bad thing. So she thought it over again, then made up her mind. She would go alone, move fast, and clear out as much as possible before anyone else had a chance to react.
