Chapter 325: Restart (4)
Vampirism didn’t work against the explosive trents, but it worked against the overlord. Still, a single hit wouldn’t be enough to heal his wounds when many explosions chipped away at his health. While the skill was leveling up and becoming more efficient, it still would take a while for it to be enough against that enemy. Time wasn’t something that Luke had, though. Since he could sense the fire, Golems were fast approaching. Not to mention, he wanted to find Aivern and the others as soon as possible...
With that in mind, Luke used his mana only to cast Heal, and then he charged with Stinger using his right hand and used Concentrated Strike with the other. As if that overlord didn’t have many tricks, he only used the vine walls and the Explosive trents. Still, it had been enough to hold him back since Luke could only attack now and then. In case, Luke had to change his strategy when the fire Golems got close enough to fire massive fireballs toward him. He saw a smile appear on the face of the overlord. It was clear that Luke couldn’t fly, so he got himself surrounded.
"What an idiot... As if your shit can stop me," Luke said and then bought an ice bow from the shop.
In the next moment, Luke used weapon Augmentation, and a rain of ice arrows of a five hundred meters radius decimated the first group of Golems. It seems that the radius increased with his strength...

"I suppose it is better than nothing," Luke thought.
The overlord’s mouth was hanging open after that. It didn’t make any sense that Luke had killed three hundred of his golems that fast... that was just too weird. In the enemies’ moment of shock, Luke decided to charge at him and attack with all his might, but he just closed his fist this time. He attacked while simulating a dagger. Thanks to that, his hand pierced the monster’s body, but before he could be sent flying to the distance, Luke grabbed his body through the wound.
"You are not going anywhere now," Luke said and then used Fury punches with his left hand.
The skill took a while longer to be finished since he only used one hand, but Luke didn’t care about that. His massive strength shocked the enemy since the previous attacks had been weakened during the charge. Still, the overlord still managed to fire those weird seeds from the top of his head and then exploded when they hit Luke, and the power hadn’t decreased, even though the trents didn’t grow completely.
Luke’s flesh began to burn and be ripped apart at the same time, but he didn’t stop it. The brief relief granted by the effects of Vampirism only made him attack even more fiercely. A war of attrition started to see which would define the winner, Vampirism or the vines of the overlord...

Thanks to the effects of his claws, Luke ended up causing more critical hits than the overlord. The eyes of the creature had been destroyed and healed so many times in just a couple of minutes that Luke lost the count. Eventually, the overlord became an empty shell, the vines still were sending nutrients toward his body, but the pain probably fried up the brain of that thing.

"Only seven levels... although his bastard caused me a lot of trouble, he wasn’t that much stronger than me," Luke thought.
No skill books either... After a long sigh, Luke realized that fighting alone was a lot harder than expected. The buffs, the long-ranged attacks... everything granted by his friends, were missing and causing him a lot of problems. That probably wasn’t the best way to view things, but that was how Luke felt right now without his team.
In any case, Luke decided to hurry and destroy the red crystal of that fortress. However, he was forced to stop when he saw some cocoons around inside some rooms in the fortress, and he also saw some humanoid creatures there. Luke didn’t like what he saw, but destroying the destroying crystal without checking those might not be the best of ideas since they will be crushed when everything falls apart. Still... There were hundreds of those...
"There are vines coming from those cocoons and they are leading toward that guy’s corpse..." Luke thought. "I guess he is using their energy to restore his own. Quite the good method to increase his recovery factor, the only problem is the lack of mobility."
In any case, Luke began to open those cocoons, and a weird slimy liquid came from them, alongside some humans. They had weird wounds across their bodies that were connected to the vines... Their life force was literally being sucked away for who knows how long. Luke wondered why he only found humans... It couldn’t be that the overlord only decided to use that method recently. As for the level of humans, they were over one hundred, so at best, they had been in that state for two or three months.
While Luke was removing those guys from the fortress, they didn’t regain their consciousness. To make things worse, some humans approach the area from the burned side of the forest... Luke wasn’t in the mood for talking, and considering his luck, they probably would mistake him for the tree overlord... Fortunately, they didn’t do that and approached without taking their weapons. They did the right thing because Luke probably would kill without hesitation those who raise their weapons around him.
