You received a quest.
Quest: defeat the four overlords.
Reward: Vampirism skill book.
Luke didn’t even know why he tried... he already knew that things would be like that. The four overlords were hiding their parameters and skills. Still, the reward of the quest greatly interested him... with that, he certainly would take another step to become a fighter that doesn’t need to receive help to heal his wounds.
Regardless, the four overlords were pretty different from each other. One was a large and bearded dwarf. One looked like a fish because of the fins on his face. The other two were women, but while the third was big as a giant, the fourth had her body parts covered with plants. It was quite an unusual group... they either met up along their journey, or their home planet had a lot of diversity.
"Focus on protecting yourselves," Luke said. "Their formation shows that they want to get rid of me first and you guys later, but that might change if you affect the battle too much."
While Luke wanted to prove his worth, he wasn’t mad enough to tell his friends to go away while he faced four overlords by himself. Considering their weapons, which were: a short ax, trident, glaive, and the plant women were unarmed, they truly wanted to gang up on Luke, even though both sides had four members. There was nothing wrong with that, Luke knew that it was a simple tactic, but it didn’t mean that he would let that be easy for them.
Luke made his fortress land as well, but he gave the order for Nambra to stay there and offer support from a distance while she watched the fortress. After all, their whole plan might be just a tactic to make Luke stay away from his fortress. The others might try to attack it, but Luke had a surprise in store for them, but he would rather not use it...
When Luke jumped from the fortress, Rina and Shalia accompanied him. Nambra had the means to protect herself, but those two needed to stay closer to him to prevent unpleasant surprises.
Unlike the usual, Luke started the fight and dashed toward the enemies. They spread around him while the plant woman stepped backward to offer her support. Luke wanted to get rid of her first, but it seemed that he would have to change his approach.
Luke increased his speed and then tried to punch the fish-like overlord, but he raised his trident and a water wall alongside it to block his advance. The water wall was pretty thick and then quickly began to freeze as well. Still, Luke’s punch easily destroyed that and approached the face of the enemy, but the trident got in his way. Before he could do anything else, the giant woman and the dwarf swung their weapons at him, and Luke was forced to jump backward.
The plant woman fired some small seeds toward Luke, but Shalia burned those with her flames. His opponents were quite surprised at his speed and power, but they knew what was going on. Despite the difference in level, he managed to defeat their friend. Still, even so, he couldn’t defeat those four by himself... unless Rina and Nambra were buffing his parameters. That was only possible because their mana pool was connected, and Nambra also could use potions from her position.
Before attacking again, the dwarf, the fish man, and the giant woman began to move around Luke until two of them were completely out of his field of vision. Luckily, Shalia and Rina were there to watch his back. Still, just to be sure, Shalia assumed her smaller form because she probably wouldn’t be able to move at the same speed as them. When those three finally moved, Luke moved as well, and this time he targeted the dwarf. He swung his ax before Luke could get too close, and then the blast hit him. The force was so powerful that Luke was sent backward like a leaf... Unable to resist it.
"Was that... Gravity?" Luke thought, but then he forgot about it when he felt the danger of the enemies approaching.
The giant woman and the fish man tried to stab Luke. Shalia tried to stop them with two ice cannons, but it didn’t work. Still, it bought Luke enough time to prepare himself. He used concentrated strike and the effect of the last ring he got and punched the fish man without even touching. The power of his claws wounded that guy’s face and ripped apart some of the flesh before the impact sent him downward.
The giant woman didn’t give up with only that much and swung her glaive toward him. Luke tried to block the attack, and he did It with his claws, but he was still sent downward. When he landed, his fall created a massive crater, but Luke got up quite fast with only a few scratches on his body. Nambra and Rina’s support saved his life...
Luke didn’t have time to thank them since the plant woman fired some of her seeds again, and while he was busy dodging those that were fired from her direction, he missed those that suddenly fell from the sky. Shalia reacted after the first hit Luke and burned all the others, but a single one pierced Luke’s shoulder and began to drink his blood. It quickly spread its roots on his body, and when Luke tried to pull it away, the roots began to rip apart his flesh and muscles. In the end, Luke clenched his teeth and pulled out the seed that had turned into a fist-size plant in a matter of seconds, pulling his flesh and damaging his muscles alongside it.
"The fuck is this..." Luke threw the plant on the floor before stepping on it with all his might.
