"What’s up?" Hao Jian frowned, looking seriously at Liang Xiaohan.

Whenever Liang Xiaohan came to him, it was usually nothing good, so when he heard her say that she needed him for something, he had a bad feeling as if another troublesome matter was awaiting him.

Liang Xiaohan smiled and said, "Yeah, I need you for something. Just get ready to sit here, and soon you’ll know why I came to you."

Liang Xiaohan smiled, put down her things, and ignored him, then ran into her room to do who knows what. She suddenly came into the living room and turned off all the lights, plunging the room into darkness. Hao Jian was bewildered, not knowing what Liang Xiaohan was up to. Liang Xiaohan had somehow managed to get a projector. So, she had watched a horror movie last night using a projector too, no wonder she was so scared. However, at this moment, Liang Xiaohan had already come over and sat down next to him on the sofa, snuggling up close with a pillow in her arms.

Seeing this, Hao Jian said, "If you’re scared, why are you watching a horror movie? You’re just asking for trouble."

Liang Xiaohan rolled her eyes at him and said, "Just watch it with me, no need for all the extra talk."

With that, Hao Jian said no more, sitting there with a blank expression. Liang Xiaohan connected her phone to the gadget and began selecting a movie.

"How about we watch The Shining?" Liang Xiaohan asked.

Hao Jian frowned, The Shining? That’s a pretty scary movie. He’s seen it; it didn’t mean much to him because he’s quite immune to horror movies. No scary movie has frightened him so far. However, if a girl watched this movie, she might be scared to death.

Especially a girl like Liang Xiaohan, who usually seems fearless but is actually quite timid inside. If she watches this movie, she’d probably get scared and scream before it’s even halfway through, and then he’d have to bear the brunt of it.

Looking displeased, he said, "Let’s pick another one. Just hearing the name gives me a bad feeling."

Liang Xiaohan liked to do the opposite of what he suggested. The more he said it was no good, the more she wanted to watch it. So she said, "Hmph! Since you think it’s no good, I want to watch it even more. Tonight we’ll watch this movie."

Then, Liang Xiaohan gave Hao Jian a scrutinizing look. Seeing him stay silent, she thought he was scared even before watching the movie. She laughed and said, "What? Are you scared? Pretending it’s no good just because you’re afraid to watch it? You’re a man, and I’m not scared, but you are. Haha... you’re killing me."

Originally, Hao Jian didn’t care either way, but seeing Liang Xiaohan’s attitude and hearing her words, he became quite agitated. As a guy, you can’t let a girl say you’re incapable. If a girl mocks you for being a coward, it’s humiliating for a man, something that cannot be allowed to happen.

Facing Liang Xiaohan’s provocation, Hao Jian sneered and said, "Watch it, but don’t say halfway through that you don’t want to watch anymore."

Liang Xiaohan also refused to back down, saying, "Fine! Let’s see it through. Whoever can’t take it and quits in the middle is a puppy!"

Hao Jian chuckled, not expecting Liang Xiaohan to make such a bet. He laughed and said, "You said it. Keep your word, eh?!"

Liang Xiaohan disliked the way Hao Jian talked to her, as if she were someone who liked cheating. She glared at him and said, "It’s a deal. I’m starting the movie now, so stop talking and watch carefully. You can’t close your eyes, leave, or turn off the movie; breaking any rule means you lose the bet, and you’ll be a puppy."

Hearing her, Hao Jian gave an acknowledgment and stopped talking. Liang Xiaohan then pressed the play button, and The Shining started playing.

The images began to slowly appear on the projector screen. Horror movies are all alike, but this one was notably effective, quite frightening even to him, someone immune to horror. If he thought it was a bit scary, then there was no need to mention Liang Xiaohan’s reaction.

As expected, in the beginning, Liang Xiaohan appeared fearless, but just as the main feature started, and as those creepy sounds gradually intensified, her expression began to change. She clutched her cushion more tightly. Hao Jian noticed but said nothing.

He didn’t expose her either, knowing she was already scared but just holding it in. He chuckled to himself, "This little girl dares to compete with me? Let’s see how long you last. You’re still pretending to be calm now, but as the plot unfolds, let’s see if you can handle it."

Hao Jian smirked silently, glancing over at Liang Xiaohan, who had unknowingly moved a little closer to him. This small detail probably went unnoticed by her, but Hao Jian noticed it. She was slowly inching towards him without realizing it.

He smirked silently and teased her, "Why are you moving so close to me? Are you scared?"

Liang Xiaohan immediately glared at him and said, "Moving closer to you? Who would get closer to you? Stop babbling and watch the movie properly."

Hao Jian chuckled, amused that Liang Xiaohan was so stubborn. Fine, keep being stubborn. The real show is just starting. Let’s see if you can maintain your tough front when the exciting parts unfold. Just don’t end up crying later.

Hao Jian chuckled, crossing his legs as he sat on the sofa watching the movie. He couldn’t deny that watching the movie slowly like this was quite enjoyable. However, when he subconsciously glanced at Liang Xiaohan again, her body was visibly trembling.

He smiled to himself, "Ha, can’t take it anymore, huh." After watching for another ten minutes, it was clear Liang Xiaohan was scared, slowly inching closer to him. To disguise her embarrassment, she forced herself to say, "Hey! Don’t you think it’s a bit chilly?"

Unexpectedly, Hao Jian simply sneered and said, "Chilly? Maybe you’re just scared from watching the movie."

Immediately, he got up and went to the room to fetch a blanket, tossing it onto Liang Xiaohan and said, "Here! If you’re cold, use this. You shouldn’t feel cold now, right?"

Liang Xiaohan rolled her eyes at him. She wasn’t cold, just scared, and used the excuse as a reason to get closer to Hao Jian, thinking she wouldn’t be as scared that way. But to her surprise, Hao Jian merely fetched a blanket and draped it over her.

"I’m not really cold, why are you giving me a blanket?" Though discontented, she couldn’t say a word, as they’d already bet, and the wager remained. So she had to pretend she was genuinely cold and wrapped herself in the blanket.

Hao Jian silently smiled, thinking, "Let’s see how long you can keep pretending."

Sure enough, after a while, Liang Xiaohan slowly moved closer to him again. All the lights in the living room were off; it was pitch black, already quite scary, and watching the movie only made it scarier. So, Liang Xiaohan was now scared to death.

She was starting to regret why she made a bet with Hao Jian, why they had to watch this movie. Since she picked it, crying or not, she had to finish watching. She regretted what she said and the decision to make the bet. If she had known how scary this movie was, she would never have provoked Hao Jian and insisted on watching it.

"Hey!" Hao Jian suddenly shouted, "Why are you moving closer to me? Are you scared?"

When Hao Jian shouted, Liang Xiaohan, already tense and scared watching the movie, nearly jumped up and fell to the ground.

But when she heard Hao Jian shout, it still startled her, causing her whole body to jolt. When she saw Hao Jian grinning foolishly beside her, she got angry.

She punched Hao Jian, "Are you crazy, scaring people like that."

Hao Jian laughed uncontrollably, "You’re scared, aren’t you? Otherwise, why would you be so frightened when I called you?"

Liang Xiaohan glared at him, stubbornly denying, "You’re the one who’s scared, not me!"

In the end, she didn’t even believe her own words.
