Chapter 178: Terrifying Void Magic

The Arbiter grinned.

For the first time, amusement showed on that ruined face, his broken lips curling upward in a way that made him look even less holy than before. There was something deeply wrong about seeing that expression on him, something that made the golden light around his body feel even more disgusting, as if the thing wrapped in radiance before them was no divine servant at all, but a corpse wearing the authority of the heavens.

"Let me end you all in the name of the gods."

His body began to rise higher into the air, and the angelic avatar behind him moved with him, growing clearer, larger, and more terrifying as a massive book slowly manifested in its arms. It did not appear all at once.

Golden lines formed first, then a cover of pure radiance, then countless pages made from light itself, until the thing hovered there like a sacred scripture large enough to bury a kingdom. The golden brilliance pouring from it was brighter than the sun, so bright that the mountain, the scattered ruins, and even the armies behind Max were drowned beneath its glow.

But even so, Max refused to look away.

"Just like back then when I fought the Fire Dragon Progenitor..." he muttered under his breath, his black eyes fixed on the enemy before him. "It seems I’ll have to use everything I have for this."

For a brief moment, his hand trembled.

He felt it clearly.

That ugly little truth he had never fully gotten used to, no matter how many battles he survived, no matter how many enemies he devoured, no matter how much stronger he became with every bloodline he seized and every wall he broke through. He was still not invincible. He could still bleed. He could still be torn apart. He could still die, not in some grand tale told by others, but here and now, exhausted, broken, and buried beneath a power far older than his own.

"If I fail..."

The words nearly came out on their own, but Max shook his head before they could finish.

"I won’t."

He breathed in deeply, his chest expanding as cold air filled his lungs, then let it out in a long, heavy breath that seemed to carry the last of his hesitation away with it. The trembling in his hand stopped. His shoulders settled. His gaze sharpened until there was nothing left in his eyes except a terrifying cold focus.

"One more time..." he said softly.

Darkness wrapped around him with terrifying intensity.

It did not spread like ordinary mana. It did not flare like flames or pulse like spirit magic. It poured out of him like something alive, thick and hungry, and instead of emitting any light at all, it began to absorb the golden radiance spilling from the sky.

The darkness behind Max expanded wider and wider, swallowing brightness, devouring reflections, turning the air around him heavy and dim until even the power of the Spirit Sovereign seemed overshadowed by it.

And yet that spirit power had not vanished. It still mixed into the void, leaving behind ethereal traces of itself, faint luminous threads weaving through the darkness like living strings moving beneath black water.

"No matter how many bloodlines I gain, you will always be my main source of power," Max said quietly, his voice almost swallowed by the void gathering around him. "You are me, and I am you. I am Void."

He did not even fully understand why those words made his magic pulse the way it did. He did not understand why the darkness seemed to answer him, why the blood inside his body reacted so violently, why the part of him that was still human suddenly began to burn as if something ancient had finally heard its own true name.

Then the system spoke.

[Evolution complete...]

The voice rang directly through his mind, clear and cold.

[Your Human Bloodline has evolved into the Void-Human Bloodline.]

The air shook.

The temperature dropped so suddenly that frost spread across pieces of broken stone still falling from the ruined mountain, and even the golden radiance around the Arbiter seemed to falter for the briefest moment. Aurelian’s body stiffened. For the first time since this battle began, genuine terror entered his golden eyes.

"Impossible..." he gasped. "A human should not possess that power!"

The massive book in the angelic avatar’s hands rose higher and opened on its own, its golden pages turning faster and faster until the sound alone made the air vibrate. An ancient chant echoed through the sky, spoken in a language no one there could understand, yet every single being who heard it felt their blood turn uneasy.

It was not a voice meant for mortal ears. It was something old, vast, and merciless, and as the chant continued, the book trembled in the avatar’s hands while cracks began to spread through the gold in Aurelian’s eyes, as if even he had to pay a price to cast whatever was coming next.

Heaven and earth trembled beneath the weight of the two powers facing each other.

Behind Max, waves of multicolored light burned brighter and brighter as the dragon armies and the spirit women prepared their attacks, every spell already formed, every breath heavy with gathered mana, all of it waiting for the moment Max gave the command to release everything at once.

But then something happened that none of them expected.

All of their magic, all of their mana, every blazing mass of fire, every cutting wind current, every thunderbolt, every stream of spirit light they had gathered with such effort, suddenly changed direction and began rushing toward Max.

The sky itself seemed to bend as countless streams of multicolored power flew past the stunned armies and poured into the darkness behind him, vanishing into the void as if it had become a bottomless mouth devouring everything they had to offer.

"My void shall devour any light that stands in my way, even if I must become the scourge of this world!" Max roared.

The void magic under his command gathered before him, pulling in every stream of mana, every trace of spirit light, every flicker of dragon power, until it formed a massive sphere of devouring destruction. It hung there in the air, patiently waiting for Max’s command like a beast that needed only one word to erase everything before it.
