Chapter 1781: Sad Truth
Vista gave a polite bow to Nathan.
"Luna said you have something to report." Nathan looked at Vista.
"Yes." Vista nodded. "There are three things that we believe you will find interesting."
"Hoh?" Nathan narrowed his eyes.
"The first is this." Vista brought a huge scroll and laid it down on the table. The scroll turned out to be a map. This wasn’t just an ordinary map.
It was the Asura Palace’s logistics map.
"This is interesting." Nathan looked around. "If we want to track something, it will be easier to use this."
"Yes, sir. We believe that this is a logistics map. If you want us to find anything, we will find it for you."
Nathan was satisfied. "So, what’s next?"
"The second one is regarding the treasury. It seems their treasury is indeed the room behind Asura’s throne. We’ve been collecting them and we’re done sorting them out. Would you like to see them?"
"I’d seen them, but nothing caught my eye. For now, store it in a place that can be accessed easily. It’s not like thieves can reach this place."
"Understood." Vista understood. "And this is the last one. This is a partial record of the Asura Palace."
Vista gave him two papers. "There was a torn book, but we couldn’t recover most of it."
Nathan read it carefully. "This is the document about the history of what happened on that day?"
"Yes, sir. This is the record of Day Zero."
Nathan was quite surprised.
’The Asura Palace was an empire that couldn’t be shaken by other kingdoms. It was a magnificent place where strength reigned supreme. Yet, that reign was broken because of what happened.
’It all started on that promised day. Lunar Year 6993, Month 3, Day 7. The sky suddenly turned dark. It wasn’t because the thundercloud was gathering but because a massive whirlpool appeared in our sky.
’A being suddenly came out of the portal. That being looked like a slug, but its grotesque appearance was hard to describe.
’It had over ten antennae. Its body was covered by giant green bubbles as though they were poison bubbles that bloated from within its body. Its mouth was at the bottom of its body, showing sharp teeth like a bear’s.
’Yet, the eyes were everywhere. Some were near the mouth, some were on the bubbles, some were on its back, and some were even in its tentacles. The tentacles were massive and numerous. It was hard to see since it only descended a portion of its body, but there were supposed to be 70 to 100 tentacles of varied lengths.
’The moment it descended, the world shook violently. Even an earthquake couldn’t shake that much. It shattered the trees and crushed the mountains before blowing them away.
’After descending, it dropped many green bubbles. When people touched it, they died because of an unknown cause. We thought they were poisonous, but they were actually eggs.
’Those eggs popped as grotesque creatures emerged from within. These were definitely the evil creature’s spawns.
’They killed humans with their extraordinary strength. They were also shooting beams of light and decimated everything in their path.
’After summoning these spawns, the great being returned to the portal, and the dark sky finally returned. However, these creatures started to appear.
’No one knew how they appeared in this world, but the Asura Palace was attacked from all directions. The Asura Palace fought bravely, but these creatures attacked us with an intensity that no one had ever seen before. They fought as if they didn’t care about death.
’Even compared to our armies, they gave an intensity that could only be called the army of a demon god. They destroyed multiple cities in their path and started to spread all over the territory.
’The elite army that the Asura Palace brought out overwhelmed them for the first time. And that elite army ended up getting wiped out despite being led by Asura.
’It was a disaster on an unimaginable scale. The enemy completely overwhelmed us and destroyed us.
’Four days after that descent, fifteen cities were already destroyed. The Asura Palace finally gave an order to all the local tribes.
’They were to build strongholds that could last as long as possible. In the end, five strongholds were meant to be built, but only two managed to be created. Unfortunately, one of the two ended up falling shortly because they weren’t able to populate the stronghold quickly enough.
’The idea was to use the strong Asura Palace as a rock to break the alien wave. However, this plan didn’t work as well.
’There were two reasons we failed. When we saw the dark sky, we sent a huge army to check what was going on. However, that army of a hundred thousand men never made it back.
’Because of that monster descending into this world, its sheer presence alone was more than enough to kill all of them. As a result, the Asura Palace didn’t have enough troops to prepare for what happened.
’The second reason was those treacherous bastards. When we warned them about these creatures, they stood behind and watched us die. They thought they would be able to survive without us fighting here. They should be grateful that the battlefield was on our ground, so this meant the place that would be destroyed was ours, not theirs.
’Despite that advantage, they didn’t even bother to come. They were waiting for us to die so that they could secure the riches we had accumulated.
’Our Asura led his troops and fought bravely. He killed over a hundred thousand creatures by himself, but he was just one man. Those creatures continued to wear him down, and he eventually fell in battle.
’He passed away as the true king, true warrior, and true human, unlike those humans whose greed knew no bound.’
Nathan read the story carefully. Asura was definitely a true warrior if what history claimed was true. Even if he wasn’t, the depiction alone was more than enough for him to be a hero of the era.
If there were reinforcement from other kingdoms, the Asura Palace might manage to complete those five fortresses. At that time, the Asura Palace might last long enough until the era of summoners began.
"If Asura Palace managed to survive, Asura might have become the hero of the era," Nathan muttered.
