Chapter 1780: Two Portals
"So, what have you found?" Nathan asked.
Luna explained, "We have found two portals. The first portal leads to a poisonous planet.
"It has a poisonous air, and it produces acid rain from time to time. In addition, the time flow is different.
"Uncle Crotto doesn’t recommend we pass through this gate. While we are able to endure the acid, prolonged exposure while searching for the next gate is not something recommended."
Nathan looked down, contemplating. "Understandable. So, what about the second portal?"
"The second portal is a very cold one. Everything here is frozen. The temperature is extremely cold. There is one sun, but it’s very far from the world itself, so the world doesn’t get the necessary temperature to be habitable.
"However, it feels like a dead planet, meaning there is no living being. So, it may be quite a safe passage."
"For now, we should note these two planets first." Nathan nodded. "We will find other portals and map them."
"Do you have another intention for these portals?" Luna asked. "For example, if you wish, you can take over the planets. The resources are there. Of course, if we map the portals, the people in this world can also get it."
"Not necessarily." Nathan shook his head. "The poisonous planet is hard for anyone in this world to enter. We’re not talking about the air saturation as well. It might be extremely low to the point where you will have a hard time breathing after a while.
"That kind of thing is not suitable for exploration. On the other hand, the frozen planet is extremely cold. I’m not sure about the air as well, but I can agree that this planet is much easier to enter."
Luna thought for a moment. "What is this air all about?"
"The state of vacuum. The lack of pressure will probably make a normal human unconscious in seconds. Well, those planets might have an atmosphere, but they’re going to be harsh.
"In addition, if you are not protected by the atmosphere, the sun can be very deadly, you know?
"For example, you won’t see the blue sky up there. It will also burn your skin, not to mention the extreme swing of temperature."
Luna fell silent. "Sounds deadly."
"Well, yeah."
Luna and Evelyn were the only ones among the girls who knew about his origin from Earth. So, they didn’t ask how Nathan even got this knowledge.
"Still, this is a portal. If we just follow the trail of the aliens, we can find the portal, right?" Luna asked.
"Well, yeah. However, you need to think about another thing." Nathan raised one finger. "What if there is a living planet?"
"A living planet? Well, won’t there be resistance?"
"Maybe? But if you think about it, if the aliens conquer a living planet, can’t they get the beasts or any creatures as their new army?"
"Ah!" Luna could imagine unknown creatures formed as a new army. "But if that happens, how come they haven’t entered this world yet?"
"Most likely because of the same reason why we haven’t left our world yet. Basically, those creatures are not strong enough to withstand the difference in their living conditions. So, they will remain on their planets."
"That’s..." Luna nodded in understanding. "So, what are we going to do with them?"
"I haven’t thought about it. Yog-Sothoth makes his transition portals like entangled branches, right? One planet might have multiple portals. If we’re not careful, one of those planets might be a trap prepared for us.
"On the other hand, if you think about it, this is also an opportunity. If there are still living beings who are resisting the aliens, we can recruit them. We learn their power and try to integrate it so that we can grow even stronger.
"Doing several leaps like this will help us grow. Eventually, by the time we reach the alien world, we should be able to become strong enough to resist those scoundrels."
Luna agreed. "I guess we will be locating all those portals first. We will leave before the time limit."
"That’s the plan."
"Still, you haven’t answered my question regarding the portals. Are you intending to use these portals as a way to get resources? The people in this world can benefit from it as well.
"Besides, if we somehow win against the enemies, won’t they have access to these portals and to these planets?"
Nathan frowned. "Are you worried about human greed?"
"Human greed knows no bounds after all."
"You don’t have to worry about that. If we kill Yog-Sothoth, the portals should be destroyed. At that time, only Evelyn and I could create access to other worlds."
"You don’t plan to occupy them or something?"
"Should I? If I were to go to another world, it would be for roleplay or just having fun. Maybe we can bring the families to enjoy their customs and other things."
Luna couldn’t help but imagine them bringing their children, wearing their local clothes, and playing around.
A small smile appeared on her face. "That sounds good. Well, I guess that’s it for now."
"Yeah. We will locate the rest of the portals..." Nathan thought for a moment.
"Are you thinking about the other continents? If we destroy the portals on this continent, the aliens couldn’t enter this continent anymore. Humanity will be able to retake their territory."
"Unfortunately, a war is the best way to control the people." Nathan sighed. "For now, the war is necessary so that humans don’t fight other humans yet. We’ll let the portals remain untouched. Only the portal we’re planning to go to will have a problem. It shouldn’t be a big problem."
"Got it." Luna raised one finger. "One more thing. Do you need information about the Asura Palace? It looks like Vista has something to report."
"He has?" Nathan raised his eyebrows. "Sure. Call him."
Luna nodded and left. Nathan, on the other hand, turned serious.
There were other worlds. He was sure that they were still fighting against the aliens with their own power. But the problem would be whether there were beings that could leave their worlds.
The requirement was exceptionally harsh after all.
