Chapter 31 - A Shorter Sentence And Determination To Get Stronger
Han Yu looked around for Guard Shen instead of just waiting.
'Hopefully, he can help me more,' he thought. 'He shouldn't have left by now.'
A minute later, he found the man standing near the administration area.
"Guard Shen, may I talk with you?" Han Yu asked politely.
The guard, who was busy with paperwork, looked up at him.
"What is it?" he questioned.
"Can you help me ask if my friends can get out early? Or if not, how long their sentence will be?" Han Yu pleaded. "Please, they were fooled by Ox Hand. You must know of his reputation. That guy is insane! He forced them to gamble and lose. He even said he'd break their legs if they refused!" He threw the man under the bus without hesitation.
SIGH
The guard had a look of disappointment but didn't reject him outright.
"Give me a minute," the guard said before getting up.
Han Yu watched as the man walked into the warden's office.
'Just make it so I don't have to pay more or meet the warden too!' Han Yu prayed.
A couple of minutes later, the door opened, and Guard Shen walked out. Han Yu looked at him with anticipation before the man took out a sheet of paper.
"They'll be out in three days. Their sentence isn't that long," Guard Shen stated.
"Just three days!?" Han Yu was surprised. "That's great!"
"Remember, this is in consideration of the fact that this was their first official offense and that there was a bigger convict involved," Guard Shen emphasized.
"Of course! I'll drill it into their heads. If not, I'll bring them back myself," Han Yu said, placing his hand on his chest with determination.
"Good. Now go on," Guard Shen spoke. "This isn't a good place to be."
"Of course. But can I go tell them just in case?" Han Yu asked as one last request.
"Fine. But not long," Guard Shen stated.
"Thank you, Guard Shen!" Han Yu said before taking out more dried meat. "Please take this. I made it from beast meat. I bought it and cooked it myself!" he offered.
Seeing the sincerity in the boy's eyes, the guard couldn't bring himself to refuse.
"Very well." He accepted it as Han Yu walked away.
"This kid..." The guard chuckled.
But when he took a bite of the meat, he was astonished.
"He really wasn't joking... this is beast meat," Guard Shen muttered, feeling the potent energy coursing through him. "He really is full of surprises." He watched Han Yu enter the jail hall again.
Inside, Han Yu quickly went to his friends to share the good news.
"You're back quick," Dan Hu said.
"Did you get bail for us!?" Fat Kui questioned excitedly.
"Not so fast," Han Yu replied. "Besides, you think I have a gold coin to pay for you two?" he scoffed.
"Probably not... unless?" Dan Hu's eyes lit up with hope.
"Stop dreaming. I wouldn't pay that even if I had it," Han Yu denied.
"Miser," Dan Hu muttered under his breath.
"But I do have news about your sentence," Han Yu spoke up.
"What did they say?" Fat Kui asked, unable to contain himself.
"You two are just here for three days," Han Yu stated. "I pleaded your case and explained about Ox Hand. They considered it and gave you a lenient sentence."
"Thank you, Han Yu! You're the best!" Fat Kui said and lunged to hug him.
"NOPE!" Han Yu jumped back. "Stay away!"
Flap
In the fatty's attempt to leap forward, his ragged waistcloth betrayed him, slipping right off.
"HEAVENS!"
The only other conscious prisoner in the corner saw it and screamed. "What have I done to deserve this!? Someone kill me! The gallows would be better than this!"
The other prisoners all gagged at the sight. Those that were fighting immediately stopped, turned around, and crouched, desperate to avoid permanent trauma.
"Fuck..." Dan Hu clutched his eyes, while Fat Kui turned beet red from embarrassment.
Thankfully, Han Yu had the fastest reflexes and shut his eyes just in time.

'I don't want to die from this sight and become a ghost already,' he thought.
Without a word, he quickly left the hall, refusing to let this disaster stain his memory.
Having found his friends and taken care of them, Han Yu had nothing left to do for the day.
'Half a day has already gone by,' Han Yu noted, looking up at the sun.
It was about two hours past noon, according to his estimate.
'I'd best get to the ghostly man. Might as well train. We won't be doing any business in the coming days anyway,' he reckoned.
Without his accomplices, pulling off any scams would be impossible. With that in mind, Han Yu simply bought some more two-grain wine and headed toward the eastern gate. He then made his way to the forest, where the ghostly man was waiting for him.
"You're late," the man said, having returned to his usual cold, sober self.
"I was occupied," Han Yu replied before getting straight to the point. "I need to get stronger fast. I need to reach the Eighth Stage of the Body Tempering Realm this month."
"Hah! Wishing to get stronger that fast?" The ghostly man cackled. "You're dreaming."
"What if I use pills?" Han Yu questioned.
"Hmm... possible, but how would you acquire them?" the man replied.
"I have my ways," Han Yu said mysteriously. He still had the pearl as a trump card.
"Best not dream too much. Just train according to your talent," the man warned. "If you rush, you'll just end up worse. Many have perished in the pursuit of quick power."
"Fine... just teach me as usual for now," Han Yu said. 'It's not like he can help me get the pill anyway,' he thought.
With that said, Han Yu engrossed himself in learning the Bolt Got Fist. The ghostly man could see the determination not just on his face, but through his actions.
'Guess he really intends to grow strong.' He thought.
