Chapter 30 - A Fourth Rate Sect

Hearing Han Yu's words, Dan Hu was surprised.

"What's the Twin Leaf Peak Sect?" he asked.

"I have no idea. I was hoping you two would know something." Han Yu replied.

"I don't." Dan Hu shook his head. "Never heard of them." He added.

"Damn, if even you don't know, then they must be some new sect." Han Yu reconsidered his thought of joining them.

'Even if I join them, would there be any benefit?' he wondered. 'I want to make a lot of money, after all.'

"I know of them." Much to both boys' surprise, Fatty Kui spoke up.

"You do!?" both of them said in unison.

"Yeah, I heard of them from my dad." Fatty Kui said before he extended his hand. "Before that, though, I want what you have in your pocket." He demanded.

"You smelled that already?" Han Yu raised his brows but took it out anyway. "Here." He handed him a small piece of dried meat.

"Him and his nose." Dan Hu shook his head.

"Ah! Dried meat!" The fatty was satisfied. "Why does it smell so nice, though?" He didn't know until he bit into it.

"WAAAAAAA! This taste!" The fatty was overwhelmed. "How's this better than the fatty goose from the tavern?" he asked.

"Savor it, you fatty. I made it from beast meat." Han Yu said, not revealing the true origin.

"Damn! So good!" Fatty Kui did as told and ate it in small bites, savoring every morsel.

SHUA

Sure enough, the energy from the dried meat was plentiful, filling his stomach.

But as Han Yu watched, the fatty never sat down to assimilate the energy.

'How much can he take?' He wondered.

While Han Yu had improved, if he considered himself to be in the same status as Fatty Kui, he would certainly have had to focus on absorbing the energy.

"Guess he's just built different." Han Yu reckoned, eyeing the fatty's size, which was almost three times his own.

Fatty Kui was about a hundred and twenty kilograms, after all.

"So nice. You should make more of it." Fatty Kui said. "If you're this good at it, I think we can still make a profit after buying it from the market and drying it." He added.

"I actually had the same thought." Han Yu replied with surprise. "But forget that for now; tell me how you know about the sect." He asked.

"Well, my dad told me about it." Fatty Kui replied. "A few disciples from the Twin Leaf Peak Sect have bought and sold us some stuff before when Dad went to the city to get new scrap." He stated.

"Huh... what more do you know about that sect?" Han Yu asked.

"Well, Dad asked them some stuff too. He said that the sect is not from this region. It's located in the Ending Spine Mountains." Fatty Kui answered.

"Ending Spine Mountains?" Han Yu recalled the name.

"That's so far." Dan Hu said. "That's almost at the edge of the kingdom's border." He knew about it too.

Unlike the Copper Cauldron Sect, Soaring Tiger Saber Sect, and the Solitary Edge Sword Sect, which were all located within a thousand kilometers of the town, the Twin Leaf Peak Sect was located over two thousand kilometers away.

This was quite far, considering the fact that the Yuran Kingdom barely had a radius of three thousand kilometers, and Oak Head Town was already located up north, barely seven hundred kilometers from the border.

"Why's a sect from another region recruiting from here?" Dan Hu wondered.

"I wonder that too. They should've just recruited from their area usually." Han Yu said before looking at Fatty Kui. "How strong are they?" he asked.

"I don't know." Fatty Kui shrugged.

"What else do you know about them then?" Han Yu asked.

"Nothing." Fatty Kui replied, making Han Yu irritated.

"Damned fatty." Han Yu cursed.

"Wait!" But the man seemed to have remembered something. "Dad said that the disciples all looked rather ragged. Their clothes were all old and kinda dirty, and the weapons they were using also looked worn." He added.

Hearing that, Han Yu's hopes dropped even more.

"Damn... so they really are some fourth-rate sect." Han Yu sighed.

"They don't seem that good. If they're recruiting here, perhaps it's because they couldn't get any members around their region?" Dan Hu guessed. "The Ending Spine Mountains are a dangerous region, and the people living there have to be strong. There are a lot of cities around there, so they would have just recruited there instead of coming to our small town." He explained.

"Yeah... Looks like I'll just have to hope for the Copper Cauldron Sect." Han Yu shook the sect out of his mind.

"Now then, how are you going to get us out of here?" Dan Hu asked.

"Let me try something. No guarantees, though." Han Yu replied.

"Alright." Dan Hu said. "We'll wait."

"Don't forget us here!" Fatty Kui reminded as Han Yu began to walk.

"Yeah, yeah." Han Yu said as he left the jail hall.

Outside, he met the guard who had stopped him before.

"Done?" The guard asked.

"Yeah." Han Yu nodded. "By the way, is there a chance I can get my friends out of here? They promised to be good." He replied, lying through his teeth.

"Unless you can pay the advanced bail, it won't be possible. You just need to wait for their sentencing and actual bail to be set." The guard replied.

"And how much would advanced bail be?" Han Yu asked, just in case.

"A gold coin." The guard replied.

"That much? For those two!?" Han Yu exclaimed. "No way! They're not even worth half that." He said.

"That's just the standard amount. If you want to know more, you'd have to talk to the warden." The guard said, waving his hands, not wanting anything more to do with the boy.

"Alright." Han Yu said, knowing his luck was at its end here.
