Chapter 413: Chapter 412: The End Of Another Kingdom (part 2)

His footsteps echoed softly through the empty corridors.

The halls were lavish.

Gold decorations covered the walls.

Ancient paintings depicting former kings lined the passageways.

Expensive carpets stretched across polished floors.

Large crystal chandeliers hung from the ceilings.

The previous rulers had clearly invested enormous resources into displaying their wealth.

Yet Alix barely glanced at any of it.

His destination was elsewhere, the treasury. Every kingdom possessed one.

And a kingdom of this size certainly wouldn’t be poor.

Several minutes later, he arrived before a massive pair of bronze doors.

The doors stood nearly fifteen meters tall.

Countless defensive formations were carved across their surface.

Ancient runes covered every inch of metal.

Even after the kingdom’s fall, the formations continued functioning.

A faint barrier shimmered across the entrance.

Alix examined the runes for a moment.

Then he simply placed a hand against the door.

Crack.

The formations immediately began collapsing.

One after another, the defensive runes shattered.

The barrier disappeared. And the bronze doors slowly groaned open.

Rumble...

Dust fell from above, and cold air drifted outward.

Beyond the entrance stretched a long staircase descending deep underground.

Alix calmly walked forward.

The deeper he went, the stronger the defensive measures became.

Additional barriers.

Hidden traps.

Sealed chambers.

Any ordinary cultivator attempting to rob this treasury would likely die several times before reaching the end.

Unfortunately for the kingdom, Alix wasn’t an ordinary person.

Every barrier collapsed before him. Every trap became useless.

Nothing could stop his advance.

Several minutes later, the staircase finally ended.

The enormous underground vault seemed endless.

Every few dozen meters, another chamber appeared.

One contained mountains of gold coins stacked into glittering hills.

Another was filled with countless Qi stones arranged inside enormous crystal containers.

There were rooms dedicated entirely to rare ores.

Others stored priceless medicinal herbs that had been carefully preserved for centuries.

Shelves upon shelves held skills and spells collected by generations of kings.

To an ordinary cultivator, this place was nothing less than paradise.

Yet Alix’s expression remained unchanged.

His footsteps echoed softly throughout the silent treasury as he continued walking.

He casually picked up a spear resting on one of the weapon racks.

Tier 5.

Not bad, but nothing remarkable.

He placed it back.

A few steps later, he stopped before a display case containing several glowing artifacts.

Each emitted a powerful aura.

The strongest among them had reached the peak of Tier 6.

To this kingdom, they were national treasures.

To Alix...

They were ordinary equipment.

He simply moved on.

Truthfully, he had never expected to discover some heaven-defying treasure inside the treasury of a mere kingdom.

The only thing he truly wanted. Was the gold.

Unlike ordinary kingdoms that measured wealth by military strength or territory, Alix viewed gold differently.

For him, gold coins weren’t merely currency.

They were fuel.

Every expansion of the System required an enormous amount of gold.

Unlocking new buildings.

Upgrading facilities.

Enhancing production.

Reviving stronger subordinates.

Everything demanded a staggering number of gold coins.

No matter how wealthy he became, it never seemed to be enough.

Looking at the mountains of glittering coins before him, Alix finally showed a faint smile.

"This is the real treasure."

With a wave of his hand, enormous piles of gold vanished one after another.

The System Inventory quietly swallowed everything.

Entire mountains of coins disappeared within seconds.

Then another mountain.

Then another.

Several hours passed.

Alix thoroughly searched every chamber hidden beneath the palace.

He inspected every artifact.

Every weapon.

Every secret vault.

Even the hidden chambers concealed behind illusion formations failed to escape his senses.

Unfortunately, nothing truly valuable appeared. There were no ancient inheritances.

No forgotten divine artifacts.

No mysterious treasures left behind by powerful cultivators.

Everything inside the treasury matched the strength of the kingdom itself.

Useful, but nothing extraordinary.

Eventually, Alix left the underground vault.

The massive bronze doors slowly closed behind him.

The palace above had grown much quieter.

Most of the wounded had already been treated.

Servants moved through the corridors carrying supplies.

Builders inspected damaged walls.

Soldiers stood guard at every important entrance.

The once unfamiliar palace was rapidly becoming part of his own empire.

Alix walked at an unhurried pace through the vast palace corridors.

The silence was almost refreshing.

Only a day ago, these halls had echoed with the footsteps of royal guards and the voices of nobles discussing court affairs. Now, those sounds had been replaced by disciplined monster soldiers carrying out their duties with remarkable efficiency.

A squad of Troll warriors hauled away the shattered remains of marble pillars that had collapsed during the battle.

Several Arachne workers were already repairing damaged walls, weaving silk tougher than steel to stabilize cracked sections before the masons rebuilt them.

Guards moved from hall to hall, organizing surrendered servants and assigning them new responsibilities.

The entire palace was slowly shedding the identity of the fallen kingdom.

Soon, it would become another fortress of Alix’s empire.

As he continued walking, Alix opened the transparent System interface that only he could see.

Several notifications floated before his eyes.

The amount of gold he had just collected had increased his reserves considerably.

However...

After checking the numbers, he merely shook his head with a helpless smile.

"Around a hundred million gold coins..."

"And it still isn’t enough."

Most rulers would probably laugh if they heard those words.

Alix closed the System window.

"I’ll need many more kingdoms."

There wasn’t a trace of greed in his voice.

He didn’t care for luxurious palaces or extravagant treasures.

As he rounded another corner, a familiar figure suddenly appeared ahead.

A young bunny like monster girl carrying a small basket had just stepped out from one of the palace’s side corridors.

The moment she noticed Alix, she froze.

Her beautiful bunny ears stood upright in surprise.

Then recognition appeared on her face.

It was Tsia.

She immediately lowered her basket and respectfully bowed.

"Greetings, my lord."

Her voice was polite, almost overly formal.

Alix stopped before her.

His eyes briefly swept over her appearance.

She looked far healthier than when they had first met.

The exhaustion that had once filled her face had mostly disappeared.

The dark circles beneath her eyes had faded.

Even her clothes had been replaced with clean, well-made garments provided by the palace.

Most importantly...

The constant fear that used to linger in her eyes had weakened considerably.

Alix gave a small nod.

"Relax."

"There is no need to be so formal."

Tsia slowly raised her head.

A slightly embarrassed smile appeared on her face.

"I... I’m still not used to it."

She scratched one of her bunny ears awkwardly.

"Everyone keeps telling me that I have to show proper respect whenever I meet Your Majesty."

Alix couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

"And who told you that?"

Tsia hesitated.

"Lady Sorin."

"And..."

"Several officers."

"They said that proper etiquette reflects the dignity of your ruler."

Alix could almost imagine Sorin giving those instructions with her usual calm expression.

It certainly sounded like something she would do.

He shook his head with a faint smile.

"I’m not interested in unnecessary formalities."

"As long as respect is genuine, that’s enough."

The atmosphere between them became noticeably lighter.

For the first time since joining his forces, Tsia found herself speaking to Alix without the overwhelming nervousness she usually felt.

She looked at the basket in her hands before speaking again.

"I was actually bringing food to my little sister."
