Chapter 412: Chapter 411: The End Of Another Kingdom (part 1)

There was no disappointment in his voice, only respect.

Some warriors could be persuaded by power.

Others by wealth.

Others by promises of glory.

But there were also those whose loyalty ran deeper than life itself.

Charles was one of them.

His exhausted body trembled as he raised the ancient Tier 7 sword one final time.

Not far away, another battle was drawing to a close.

Virtil stood amidst the ruins of the eastern wall.

His armor had been shattered beyond repair.

Deep wounds covered his body.

Blood flowed continuously from countless cuts.

Opposite him stood Morgro.

Unlike Virtil, the towering giant is untouched.

Even methods that consumed his own lifespan. None of them had been enough.

Every attack had been crushed by Morgro’s overwhelming strength.

Virtil laughed bitterly.

"So this..."

"...is the difference."

Morgro calmly rested his enormous weapon upon his shoulder.

"You fought well."

Virtil smiled.

"Coming from you..."

"I’ll take that as an honor."

He slowly looked toward Charles.

Toward the family he had served for most of his life.

His eyes gradually dimmed.

"I only wish..."

"...that I could have protected it."

Morgro nodded once.

Then he raised his weapon.

"I will grant you a warrior’s death."

The colossal weapon descended.

BOOOOOOOM!

The earth split apart. When the dust settled, Virtil was gone.

Only a deep canyon remained where he had once stood.

With the deaths of Charles and Virtil...

The kingdom’s final pillars had fallen.

Across the battlefield, the remaining defenders slowly lowered their weapons.

Some surrendered.

Some fled.

Others chose to follow their commanders into death.

By sunset...

The war was over.

----

Inside the royal palace, despair had arrived long before the enemy.

King Alden sat alone within his private chamber.

The distant sounds of battle had gradually disappeared.

No messengers came anymore.

No generals remained to report.

He already understood what that silence meant.

Charles had fallen.

Virtil had fallen.

The capital had been conquered, and everything was over.

For several long minutes, the king simply sat upon the floor, staring at the royal sword that had been passed down through generations of rulers.

His hands trembled slightly.

Not from fear.

From regret.

He had dreamed of expanding the kingdom.

Of leaving behind an era of prosperity.

Instead...

He had become the last king.

Slowly, he closed his eyes.

"I have failed my ancestors."

Without another word, he drew the sword.

When Alix’s soldiers eventually entered the royal chamber, they found King Alden already dead.

No struggle.

No final resistance.

Only a king who had chosen to end his own life rather than witness the complete collapse of his kingdom.

----

Later that evening...

The grand throne room was filled with silence.

The banners of the fallen kingdom had already been removed from the towering pillars.

In their place hung the black banner bearing Alix’s emblem.

The enormous chamber still showed signs of battle.

Several marble pillars were cracked.

Fragments of stained glass covered parts of the polished floor.

The massive throne at the end of the hall remained intact.

Upon it sat Alix.

His posture was relaxed.

One hand rested casually against the armrest. His expression remained as calm as ever.

Below him stood every surviving general.

Sorin stood at the front with her usual composed expression.

Morgro’s massive figure looked like an unshakable mountain.

Verila leaned lightly on her spear, her wings folded behind her.

Grathum still carried his enormous hammer despite the countless cracks covering its surface.

Zurrak stood quietly in the shadows, almost invisible despite his enormous frame.

Mhazul had already recovered enough to stand proudly once again, while Karnessa and the other commanders lined both sides of the hall.

Every one of them except Morgro bore wounds from the battle.

Armor was cracked.

Weapons were stained with blood.

Bandages covered fresh injuries.

Yet every pair of eyes remained fixed upon the throne.

For a long moment, Alix simply looked at them.

He remembered the day they had first arrived in this world.

A faint smile appeared on Alix’s face.

"You’ve all done well."

His calm voice echoed throughout the throne room.

Every general instinctively straightened.

"Our first campaign on this continent is complete."

He slowly looked across the gathered commanders.

"You fought powerful enemies."

"You overcame countless obstacles."

"And together..."

He paused for a brief moment.

"...we have secured our first foothold on this continent."

The words filled the throne room with quiet pride.

This victory was more than the fall of a kingdom.

A gateway into an entirely new continent.

Alix slowly rose from the throne.

His gaze turned toward the enormous windows overlooking the conquered capital.

Night had already fallen.

Across the city, thousands of lights burned as his soldiers restored order.

The black banners of his empire fluttered above the walls, replacing the standards of the fallen kingdom.

"This is only the beginning," Alix said calmly.

"Our enemies still know nothing about us."

His golden eyes narrowed slightly as he looked toward the distant horizon beyond the capital.

"There are greater kingdoms."

"Ancient empires."

"Sects that have existed for thousands of years."

"And beings far stronger than those we have faced today."

A faint smile slowly appeared on his face.

"One day..."

"This entire continent will know our name."

The generals simultaneously placed their fists against their chests.

Their voices echoed through the throne room as one.

"Our lives is at your command, my lord."

----

After the meeting continued for another hour, Alix began issuing orders one after another.

The newly conquered kingdom was enormous.

Although the war had ended, the real work was only beginning.

Cities had to be secured.

Supply routes needed to be established.

Captured nobles had to be sorted according to their usefulness.

The surrendered soldiers needed to be disarmed and reorganized.

Every task required careful planning.

Sorin quickly stepped forward and recorded every order.

Her calm expression never changed as she organized the countless responsibilities being handed out.

"Morgro."

Alix looked toward the giant.

"The capital is yours for now. Maintain order and suppress any unrest."

Morgro struck his chest with a fist.

"It will be done, my lord."

"Verila."

The Sky Serpent raised her head.

"Send scouts throughout the surrounding kingdoms. I want information on every major force within a thousand kilometers."

A faint smile appeared on her face.

"They’ll never know we’re watching."

"Zurrak."

The Void Warg emerged slightly from the shadows.

"Find every hidden organization operating inside this kingdom. Noble remnants. Secret sects. Assassin groups. I want them identified."

Zurrak’s crimson eyes gleamed.

"They won’t remain hidden for long."

One by one, the generals received their assignments.

The throne room gradually emptied as commanders departed to carry out their orders.

Eventually, only a handful of trusted subordinates remained.

The atmosphere became considerably quieter.

Outside the massive windows, darkness had completely enveloped the capital.

Countless torches illuminated the city streets.

The sounds of reconstruction echoed throughout the night.

After giving his final instructions, Alix dismissed everyone.

"You may leave."

The generals bowed respectfully.

Then one after another, they exited the throne room.

Heavy doors slowly closed behind them.

Boom.

Silence descended.

For several moments, Alix remained standing before the throne.

The enormous chamber felt empty compared to earlier.

Only the flickering torchlight remained.

The shadows stretched across the cracked marble floor.

Then Alix turned and began walking.
