Chapter 932: New morning

4th Zone - Special Base

Elder Sandra heard the words of Elder Carter, but her suspicion was still there. Why would the team visit him so often? She doubted it was related to the team’s mission.

She was not the only one having such doubts. The other elders had the same doubts as well, but none of them spoke in front of Elder Carter.

It didn’t mean that they wouldn’t look into this matter. Sandra decided to find some evidence first. Then she could ask some questions with assurance.

Because Carter was not alone. He was representing a faction, and there were powerful families behind him.

"Alright, I will request a special investigation team from the Human Alliance. They will find some answers. The meeting ends now." After saying that, Elder Sandra left the room.

Next, one after another, the elders left the place. Elder John saw Carter leaving as well and frowned. He knew something was not right with Carter’s explanation.

But no one could force him. If he chose to lie, then they would have no way to verify it.

A few minutes later,

Carter returned to his office. He shut the door and drank a few glasses of water. He had been so close to getting exposed. He knew it was hard to fool those old foxes.

Some of them had started suspecting him. Those sharp eyes didn’t fool him. He could not target Jeremy Night for the time being; one small mistake could expose everything.

The special investigation teams from the Human Alliance were no joke. It was not easy to invite them, and it would require significant resources. He didn’t expect Elder Sandra to go this far.

He realized that her guilt level was high. She didn’t want to repeat past mistakes. She likely wanted to know for sure whether this was the work of the beasts or something else.

Meanwhile,

Elder Sandra returned to her office. She was not joking when she said that she would invite the special investigation team.

She contacted the higher-ups of the Human Alliance and reported the situation, noting that six second-year students were missing.

The higher-ups first assumed that it was the work of high-tier beasts, so they didn’t immediately agree. They wanted to see a pattern first.

If the pattern repeated, then they would send someone to investigate. Sandra was disappointed, but she understood the perspective of the higher-ups.

However, the higher-ups gave her another glimmer of hope. They decided to allow the private investigation teams sent by the victims’ families to enter the base.

If they wanted, they could conduct a private investigation first. In a way, it was a clever answer from the Human Alliance; this way, the families couldn’t blame the Alliance for inaction.

After ending the call, Sandra informed the families. They were from different cities within the 4th Zone, but they were highly influential. They could easily afford to send an elite team here.

She then thought of Elder Carter. These families were not connected to the faction behind Elder Carter, so she didn’t think there would be any outside political influence.

...

The following day,

Jeremy Night felt his close combat training had reached its current limit. He was now able to create vibrations and successfully transfer them into objects.

Next, he wanted to test this in a real combat scenario. It had been several days since he last went on a mission, and he wanted to get back out into the field.

After getting ready, he left the building. He came across some other members in the corridor, and both sides exchanged simple nods.

Ever since that day, Luke had stopped appearing before him, and the gossip about him had died down as well.

Everyone now knew about his strength, so there was no more speculation. They simply went back to minding their own business.

When he reached the ground floor exit, he crossed paths with Elder Leah.

"Elder Leah," he greeted her.

Elder Leah looked at Jeremy Night, her eyes flashing with a glint. She recalled that this young Tier-3 Beast Tamer usually preferred solo missions.

She said, "I know you take on solo missions, but be careful in the wilderness. A team of six second-year students went missing recently."

"We suspect a higher-tier beast targeted them, but we don’t have concrete evidence yet," she added.

Hearing that, his expression shifted slightly.

Leah caught the change in his expression.

She asked, "Did something happen?"

"I was chased by a worm beast last time. I managed to escape with great difficulty," Jeremy Night replied.

Leah was surprised internally. She noted down the information to inform Elder Sandra later. She knew that the Tier-9 Worm King was still out there.

If worm beasts were appearing frequently in the wilderness, it could very well be related to the Tier-9 Worm King.

"Be careful with your mission," she said.

"Okay," Jeremy Night said before leaving.

His expression remained neutral, but he focused on calming his racing heart.

He knew he couldn’t completely fool her, which was why he offered a partial truth. It was a fact that he had fought against a worm beast, after all.

That slippery worm beast had ultimately escaped underground. Leaving the interaction behind, he walked toward the administration building.

The moment he stepped inside, he attracted a lot of attention. Because he hadn’t taken on a single mission in the last couple of days, rumors had begun circulating that he was injured.

Seeing him return, people immediately started whispering.

Elder Smith was stationed behind the counter. Jeremy walked up to the desk and requested a new assignment.

"I almost thought you forgot about taking missions entirely. Then I learned you were training behind closed doors these past few days. How were the results of your training?" Smith asked.

"I got some good results. My survivability should increase," Jeremy replied.

Smith nodded approvingly and handed over the electronic device to him.

Jeremy accepted the device and began to scroll through the available tasks. So far, he had been successful in avoiding exposing his true limits.

Next, he wanted to accumulate more points to reach the 9th Rank of the Tier-3 stage. His gaze scanned through the listings.

[Mission: Kill Tier-5 Mountain Wolf. Time limit: 2 days. Credit points: 300. Leaderboard Points: 500. Risk: The beast could be a single step away from becoming a Tier-6 Beast.]

Jeremy Night read through the details. The mission was highly suitable for him. He could perfectly test his new close combat technique against a Tier-6 wolf, and the time limit was more than enough.
