Chapter 358: Chapter 358: But Even If She’s Unruly, He Still Can’t Dislike Her
Raine Kane gave him a thumbs-up.
Juliana Jacobs tapped the documents in her hand, "I’m going to take a look."
At this moment, in the study.
The warm yellow light deepened the ambiguous atmosphere between the two.
After Iris Paxton entered the study, Elias Langley was busy looking at his previous work notes and didn’t pay attention to her.
She waited for a while but eventually pulled a chair next to him and placed a small tray beside him.
On the tray was a syringe.
Her slender fingers rested on the man’s wrist, yet Elias Langley showed no reaction.
Iris Paxton paid no mind and gently unbuttoned his cufflinks, her delicate fingertips tracing the muscular lines of his forearm, rolling up his fitted shirt sleeve bit by bit.
Elias Langley’s strong arm gradually became exposed, and Iris Paxton swallowed, her fingers deliberately and casually caressing his tense muscles.
Elias Langley sensed something amiss and finally glanced at her, but his face remained expressionless.
"Isn’t it supposed to be a weekly injection? I just had one three days ago."
Iris Paxton lifted her slightly flushed face to look at him, her voice tender enough to drip water.
"The doctor specifically called this afternoon, saying that your last physical examination before you came back showed a lower serum concentration. To consolidate the nerve repair effects, it’s best to add another injection within the weekly interval. Afraid you might forget when you’re busy, I came to give you the injection."
As she spoke, she leaned her body over, pressing herself closer.
If the injection invigorated him in the study, she could also satisfy him.
Iris Paxton had longed for him to touch her for a long time now.
However, at this moment, the study door was suddenly pushed open without warning.
Juliana Jacobs stood at the doorway, her gaze calmly passing over Iris Paxton’s fingers on Elias Langley’s arm, over the syringe, and finally landing on Elias Langley’s raised face.
The room’s air instantly grew tense.
Iris Paxton, feeling guilty, quickly withdrew her opportunistic hands from Elias Langley’s arm, but the blush on her face couldn’t retreat in time.
"Why... why didn’t you knock?" she asked.
Juliana Jacobs walked straight in, her gaze calm, exuding an overwhelming presence that needed no words.
"In my own home, do I need to report to you which room I enter?"
She placed the documents face-down on Elias Langley’s desk, looking down at her.
"But you, a ’nanny’ paid by my family, alone with my husband late at night, sticking your worthless things to him, what are you trying to do?"
Iris Paxton was immediately shamed by her words, left with nowhere to hide.
"I, I didn’t..."
"Didn’t?" Juliana Jacobs sneered, "Look at you sitting there beside my husband, unable to get up, are you suddenly paralyzed, or is your leg broken?"
Iris Paxton’s face turned pale.
Elias Langley spoke up, displeased, "Juliana..."
"Shut up!"
Elias Langley: "..."
Juliana Jacobs sharply cut him off, then looked outside.
"Steward Fay, make sure she learns the rules. First, after 9 PM, without explicit summons from the owner, she should not enter the study, master bedroom, or other private areas. Second, when interacting with the male host, maintain at least a one-meter etiquette distance."
She paused, giving Iris Paxton a disdainful glance.
"Didn’t they teach you basic etiquette abroad? Learn quickly after coming back, the Paxton Family at least needs to save some face in the country. If they find out you’re this cheap, they might send you back abroad again."
Iris Paxton’s shoulders suddenly trembled, as if she had been publicly slapped, her eyes instantly reddened.
She looked toward Elias Langley, her eyes filled with tears, sorrowful and helpless, the typical look of someone suffering a great grievance but forcibly holding back.
But Elias Langley had just been reprimanded by Juliana Jacobs.
He looked at Juliana Jacobs in a daze, a thoughtful expression on his face, completely missing Iris Paxton’s pitiable signals.
"What," Juliana Jacobs said impatiently, "waiting for Raine Kane to throw you out?"
With Elias Langley not siding with her, Iris Paxton had no choice but to stand up.
"Elias... y-you rest early, don’t forget what the doctor said, you need to get better soon."
With that, she left, biting her lip, her face full of grievance, along with Steward Fay.
Juliana Jacobs walked around the wide desk, approaching Elias Langley calmly.
Elias Langley didn’t know what she was going to do, but inexplicably, he had no defenses against her.
Suddenly, Juliana Jacobs turned his chair 90 degrees, straddling onto his lap.
Elias Langley instinctively, fearing she might hurt her back, quickly held her close.
Iris Paxton, reaching the door, saw this scene and nearly bit through her porcelain veneer.
Elias Langley looked at the woman boldly seated on his lap and froze for a moment.
Juliana Jacobs extended her index finger, lifted his chin, her soft lips gently parting, "Has she ever sat here on you?"
He shook his head woodenly.
Juliana Jacobs moved her fingers to his chest, "Did she ever see your body?"
Elias Langley frowned, "I’m not so worthless that I need someone to wait on me hand and foot."
Juliana Jacobs grabbed his collar, "So you’ve done it?"
Elias Langley was inexplicably angered by her words and seized the hand clutching his collar.
"Compared to her, what you’re doing is even more excessive."
Juliana Jacobs laughed at his words, and the hand clutching Elias Langley’s collar tightened, her eyes gleaming sharply.
"Elias Langley, listen up, we haven’t divorced yet, so even if you have amnesia, you must keep yourself pure for me!"
After saying that, she rose and left his lap.
The weight on Elias Langley’s leg vanished, and it felt as if a piece of his heart was empty too.
"Do you think I’m domineering?" Juliana Jacobs asked.
Elias Langley steadied himself and lowered his eyes, "A... a little."
Juliana Jacobs chuckled, "I can’t help it, I have a cleanliness obsession; I don’t like my man smelling of another woman."
Elias Langley’s gaze flickered.
He always detested others being too strong, especially women full of thorns.
Yet, her arrogance towards him didn’t cause him any resentment.
The man lowered his eyes and said, "Your demands are reasonable; I’ll keep that in mind."
Juliana Jacobs smiled slightly, picked up the document placed upside down on the table earlier, and handed it to him.
"Sign this agreement."
It was a behavioral constraint commitment for spouses.
Elias Langley took it and began to read it seriously.
Despite his amnesia, he still had a basic sense of right and wrong and an understanding of contracts.
The agreement merely outlined basic respect and loyalty in marriage: in public places, the husband must uphold the wife’s dignity, must not let outsiders harm the wife; and must maintain physical and emotional exclusivity during the marriage...
There were nine clauses in total, but these demands seemed reasonable to him.
So he picked up a pen and signed his name on the last page.
But due to his amnesia, his thinking wasn’t very meticulous, which allowed Juliana Jacobs to exploit a loophole.
Because the entire commitment only constrained the husband’s actions, with no restrictions on the wife’s.
A barely noticeable glint passed through Juliana Jacobs’ eyes, and she slowly reminded him, "Remember, if you violate 1/3 of these clauses, we won’t have to wait three months; we can terminate the marriage contract early."
Elias Langley replied without hesitation, "Alright!"
Ha, so straightforward.
Juliana Jacobs gave him a cold look, and as she reached for the agreement, she deliberately had a ’slip of the hand’.
"Clang!"
The herbs sent by Iris Paxton fell to the ground, and the glass syringe was shattered by the edge of the tray.
"That’s my medicine!" Elias Langley frowned.
"Skipping one injection won’t kill you."
After speaking, Juliana Jacobs left without looking back.
Elias Langley felt he must have really liked this woman before, spoiling her into such an unruly state.
But even if she was unruly, he couldn’t bring himself to dislike her.
...
That night, because of the physical discomfort brought by pregnancy, Juliana Jacobs couldn’t rest well.
The next day, when they met in the dining hall, Iris Paxton was nowhere to be seen.
Elias Langley asked, "Where is she?"
Steward Fay looked bewildered, "Isn’t madam right beside you?"
Elias Langley frowned, "I’m asking about Iris Paxton!"
Steward Fay then came to a "sudden realization."
"Miss Paxton is diligent in her studies, spent the night cramming etiquette lessons; she must be catching up on sleep now."
Upon hearing this, Elias Langley immediately put down his chopsticks.
"Is she catching up on sleep, or is she ill?"
Juliana Jacobs was just about to scoop up a spoonful of ham and chicken porridge, but the greasy sensation mixed with the meat’s fat suddenly overwhelmed her.
Having no time to hide it, she abruptly turned her head and covered her mouth firmly with her hand, but still let out a muffled retch.
Elias Langley was about to get up to check on Iris Paxton, but the sudden sound made him pause, and his focus shifted from worrying about Iris Paxton to her.
