Chapter 343: Chapter 343: Reunion
Elias Langley’s usual composure shattered bit by bit, revealing a shock and fear he had never shown before.
He feared that what he saw was an illusion, and in the blink of an eye, the person in front of him would just be someone resembling her.
In this season between autumn and winter, Juliana Jacobs wore a mismatched cotton outfit, her hastily combed hair still seemed somewhat disheveled.
She didn’t cry when she faced the traffickers; she didn’t cry when she faced the ruthless Marshall Family. But upon seeing Elias Langley, the strong facade she had been holding up suddenly collapsed, tears instantly welled up in her eyes.
Elias Langley’s jaw was shadowed with stubble, his eyes bore the redness and exhaustion from days without sleep. He raised his hand to cover his eyes, then removed it again.
It was indeed not an illusion.
With a swift stride, he stepped forward, embraced her, and quietly and quickly moved from the door to the farthest northwest corner.
Juliana Jacobs began to cry softly in his arms.
Elias Langley held her tightly, and the heart that had been cut like with knives quietly settled at that moment.
No matter what, having her in his arms now was just wonderful, truly wonderful.
"I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you."
His voice was light, trembling uncontrollably.
In his arms, Juliana Jacobs shook her head and said softly, "The owners of this inn are traffickers; they teamed up with another person to kidnap me. I barely escaped from the village, only to be caught by them, thinking I almost died. I never expected my first client would be you."
Elias Langley instantly furrowed his brow, "Client?"
Since these two were in such a hurry to go to hell, he might as well help them along.
Juliana Jacobs misunderstood his sudden stern expression and quickly lifted her head in his embrace to explain, "I didn’t, none of them touched me. I burned the Marshall’s house to the ground before..."
Before she could finish, Elias Langley’s arm tightened, and he lowered his head, passionately kissing her, blocking all her fearful explanations.
She was alive and back by his side, which was the greatest blessing from fate. How could he care about what she had experienced or suffered?
When Caleb Donovan returned, he stopped in his tracks, stunned for a full half minute upon seeing Juliana Jacobs.
He could hardly believe such a coincidence.
But everyone immediately had to consider how to get Juliana Jacobs out of there.
"I just scouted the area again. This town doesn’t have many people. On the surface, they all run small businesses, but they don’t rely on these little deals to make a living, and there’s a shotgun behind every door of every house."
Caleb lowered his voice as he spoke.
"The ongoing crackdowns in recent years have kept them low-key, but they’re still engaged in human trafficking. They appear scattered on the surface, but are actually under the innkeepers’ control. If we try to take her away by force, a yell from the couple would bring the whole town down upon us. Elias and I could fight ten each, but the challenge is ensuring she’s unharmed."
Elias Langley had been fiddling with his phone, and after hearing Caleb’s analysis, he calmly said, "The ambulance from last night hasn’t left yet. The driver and doctor onboard are our people, with Raine Kane waiting five kilometers away to assist. Now someone needs to fall ill immediately, to be sent to the clinic, with enough of an excuse to take her along."
Elias Langley’s gaze fell on Juliana Jacobs.
Juliana Jacobs hesitated to meet his eyes, shyly taking out a pill.
"The innkeeper gave it, saying it’s an extender, then asked for more money."
Elias Langley, "..."
Did he really need a drug to enhance his abilities?
Caleb stifled a laugh, "Sir, this is a malady I can’t substitute for, you have to have it yourself."
Elias Langley, "......"
Dale Gould noticed that Juliana Jacobs had been upstairs for a long time without any activity and started to feel uneasy, so he slowly went upstairs.
As he was about to silently lean against the door to eavesdrop on the sounds inside, the door suddenly creaked open.
His ear almost bumped into Caleb’s chest.
Looking down at him, Caleb’s face turned iron-blue.
Dale Gould forced a smile, "Are you satisfied with the service at our little establishment, gentlemen?"
"Satisfied?"
Caleb grabbed him by the nape, lifting him like a chick into the room,
"Take a good look at the great mess you’ve made!"
Dale Gould stumbled and kneeled by the bedside. Looking up, he was dumbfounded.
The big boss lay on the bed, covered with a floral quilt, but an abnormal bulge appeared in some area of the quilt.
"Speak up, what kind of phony meds did you give him? Do you know what you’ve done to my employer? Let me be clear, if anything happens to him, you’re not getting away with just a fine."
Seeing Elias Langley’s flushed face, sweat dripping from his forehead, and continuous groaning, the agony seemed real.
Juliana Jacobs huddled in the corner of the bed, her clothes disheveled, covering her face and sobbing quietly, looking thoroughly frightened.
Dale Gould was certain something had gone wrong and started swearing at Juliana Jacobs.
"You jinx! What kind of garbage pills did you feed the boss, making him like this? If something happens to him, you’ll pay with your life."
His shouting made Juliana Jacobs cry harder.
Caleb impatiently said, "You’re all in on this together, stop playing games with me. Hurry and save him, because if anything happens to my boss, I’ll cut your privates off before discussing any compensation!"
The drug wasn’t acquired through proper channels, so Dale Gould felt guilty and panicked.
"Okay, okay, the clinic isn’t far from here, I’ll get a stretcher right away and take your boss there."
In just a few minutes, Dale Gould called for assistance.
Elias Langley and his team correctly anticipated that the entire town functioned like a well-coordinated entity.
Caleb pointed at Juliana Jacobs, who was still crying, and said, "She’s the root of this problem, she has to come to take care of my boss."
"Oh, dear sir," Mrs. Gould walked in from outside, "she’s a woman from the countryside, inexperienced, and unable to take care of anyone. I’d better go with you."
Caleb immediately spat at her in disgust, "You old hag, just looking at you is sickening, don’t you dare step out and disgust others!"
Mrs. Gould’s face flushed bright red from his unapologetic words. Though they had great influence in town, they still had to act carefully, especially with these merchants who were essentially their lifeline.
Reluctantly, she had to compromise.
However, she tied a chain around Juliana Jacobs’s ankle.
Before heading to the clinic, she didn’t forget to shoot her a threatening glare, warning, "This whole town’s my family. If you try to run, I’ll break your legs, let every man in town sleep with you, then sell you overseas as a beast woman!"
Juliana Jacobs seemed terrified, nodding continuously.
Mrs. Gould was still not at ease and pinched her arm hard.
Juliana Jacobs gasped in pain and shed a few genuine tears.
It indeed hurt...
