Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Nathan Carter Is Really a Man?

Juliana received her message but didn’t reply. Instead, she called Auden Hughes to inquire about how the preparations for Summer Shaw’s heart transplant were going.

Auden Hughes arranged a time and place to meet and discuss.

Before the meeting, Juliana first went to the hospital to see Summer Shaw.

The bodyguard at the entrance saw her and nodded slightly.

"Has anyone unusual been here recently?" Juliana asked.

The bodyguard thought for a moment and then replied, "Yes, there was a young man who came by. He’s skinny and not very tall."

For some reason, Juliana immediately thought of Nathan Carter.

Unfortunately, she had no photos on her phone and could only give up.

After visiting Summer Shaw, Juliana walked into the lobby and saw a thin figure entering through the main door from far away.

It’s Nathan Carter!

"You keep an eye on him, I’ll be right back."

Juliana left Raine Kane behind and exited the lobby through another door.

She soon returned, jogging with a cup of soy milk.

Raine Kane told her that Nathan Carter went to the men’s clinic.

A hint of doubt crossed Juliana’s mind regarding her judgment.

She believed that over the past few months when Stella Windsor was missing, it was enough time for her to have undergone plastic surgery to evade capture.

Given that woman’s hatred towards her, it was entirely possible she would disguise herself as a man and come to Kingsford.

The men’s clinic?

Was Nathan Carter really a man?

Soon after, Nathan Carter came out of the doctor’s office and went to the pharmacy to get medication.

Juliana, holding the soy milk, approached him and had an "encounter" with him at the corner.

She rushed over without "paying attention" and ended up splashing the entire cup of soy milk onto Nathan Carter’s chest.

"I’m sorry, it was an accident. I’ll pay for your laundry," Juliana quickly apologized.

Nathan Carter frowned but then immediately relaxed.

"Does Mrs. Langley enjoy ’throwing herself at others’?"

Seeing Juliana’s smile fade, Nathan Carter hurriedly added, "Just kidding, it’s okay. I’ll handle it in the restroom."

With that, he took off his coat.

Under Nathan Carter’s coat was a thin shirt, flat against his chest with no hint of a curve.

Juliana wasn’t satisfied, "Do you know me?"

Nathan Carter shook the soy milk off his coat.

"I know Mr. Langley. I saw you at a charity gala hosted by Mrs. Paxton, but I couldn’t get a chance to introduce myself."

"Oh, I see. Your shirt didn’t get splashed, did it?"

Juliana reached out towards his chest.

Despite Nathan Carter’s attempt to evade, she managed to touch it.

Flat, no binder.

So, he really is a man!

At that moment, Nathan Carter’s expression wasn’t pleasant, "Mrs. Langley, you are a married woman, please watch your behavior."

In the end, Nathan Carter didn’t ask Juliana for compensation and turned away towards the restroom.

All Juliana could do was leave the hospital with questions in her mind.

Raine Kane caught up with her.

"I asked the doctor what illness Nathan Carter has, but the men’s clinic is tight-lipped, calling it patient privacy."

Juliana furrowed her brows deeper.

Nathan Carter was indeed a man, so he definitely wasn’t the strategist behind Florence Sinclair?

"How about..." Raine Kane tentatively suggested, "find a chance to see if he keeps any birds?"

Juliana suddenly understood, "Alright, you go check, and let me know after you’ve seen it."

Raine Kane, "..."

Can’t we do it together?

The time for the meeting with Auden Hughes was drawing near, so Juliana had to temporarily set aside her doubts and rush to the appointment.

Meanwhile, in the restroom.

Nathan Carter slowly washed the stains off his coat, smiling meaningfully at his reflection in the mirror...

Arriving at the tea house where she was to meet Auden Hughes, Raine Kane checked the environment thoroughly, finding no anomalies.

Just as Juliana was about to enter, her phone rang.

Aetherflame was applying for "Special Equipment Technology Access Authorization," something only she, Caleb Shaw, and Raine Kane knew.

She hadn’t mentioned it to Elias Langley, but he probably knew because he was also a member of the review panel.

The couple’s current way of interacting had become much more harmonious, such matters didn’t require deliberate communication and would not become a stumbling block.

After finishing the call, Juliana said to Raine Kane, "We need to submit some supplementary documents urgently, you deliver them in person."

Raine Kane glanced around, "Are you alright on your own?"

Juliana had been to this tea house before, and meeting Auden Hughes was just a regular meeting, presumably there should be no issue.

Therefore, she replied, "You go, delivering the documents is crucial; my future is in your hands."

That statement was no exaggeration.

As long as "Genesis" could pass official review and obtain that crucial access authorization, Juliana would become a state-protected research expert like Sebastian Sinclair.

Raine Kane felt the weight of responsibility keenly, nodded seriously, and hurried away.

Juliana entered the private room, where Auden Hughes had been waiting for quite a while.

Arriving more than ten minutes late, she quickly apologized.

Auden Hughes, however, stood up with a smile, ready to take her coat.

"Juliana, when did you start being so formal with me?"

However, Juliana declined his kindness, hanging her coat on the rack herself.

Auden Hughes shook his head with a smile, returned to his seat, and poured her a cup of tea.

The room was well-heated, warming up Juliana’s hands that had grown cool outside.

"I was worried about you having sleepless nights, so I ordered fruit tea. Is the sweetness acceptable?" Auden Hughes asked.

Juliana sipped it but didn’t comment on the taste. Instead, she went straight to the main topic.

"I just want to know if what Florence Sinclair said is true?"

Auden Hughes nodded, "Indeed, this patented technology requires authorization from both of us to proceed with the surgery."

"So..." Juliana leaned back in her chair, clearly displeased, "from the start you knew Summer Shaw’s surgery couldn’t happen?"

Auden Hughes pursed his lips, "Juliana, I didn’t deliberately hide it from you."

Juliana laughed coldly, looking away.

"I was already prepared for the worst. If you insisted on not performing the surgery, I would give her my heart. You nodded in agreement, giving me back that hope, only for you to take it away with a line about ’authorization’. Is making me chase my tail your way of having fun?"

Auden Hughes was at a loss for words, just opening his mouth when Juliana turned her head back and looked directly at him.

"For someone who has become indifferent to life and death, it’s not that they can’t afford to play; it’s that they hate when someone uses hope as a lure, pulling it back and forth, treating me like a fool. Especially when... that someone is you. I thought you would be different from Florence Sinclair."

Auden Hughes was shocked by her words.

"You... I have a marriage with Florence Sinclair, doesn’t that bother you?"

Juliana played with the teacup in front of her, "It does a bit now."

Auden Hughes was taken aback by her words, immediately saying, "Actually, I arranged for us to meet here today to discuss something with you. Your friend doesn’t necessarily need a healthy new heart."

Juliana raised her eyebrows, looking at him silently.

Auden Hughes leaned in slightly, lowering his voice.

"My team is currently developing a new cell regeneration technology. To put it simply, it’s precisely targeting damaged tissues, promoting cell proliferation and differentiation, rebuilding microvascular structures, and repairing necrotic tissues while reversing fibrosis."

Outsiders are often strangers to specialized jargon, Juliana listened partially understanding, then inquired, "Do you mean... her heart can heal itself?"

Auden Hughes nodded, "This technology could help her heart return to a structure and functional state close to health, without the concern of rejection or lifelong medication requirements. And most importantly, it doesn’t require Florence Sinclair’s consent to implement, but..."

Juliana closed her eyes briefly, "If you keep hesitating, I’ll throw you out."

Auden Hughes awkwardly explained, "This technology is in the clinical trial stage. That means if we’re going to intervene with your friend, she won’t be treated as an ordinary patient but will instead be a volunteer for clinical research, which involves certain risks—but that’s what scientific exploration is about."

"What are the odds?" Juliana asked.

Auden Hughes was silent for two seconds, then earnestly said, "Officially, I can only claim a fifty percent chance, but personally, I believe it to be eighty to ninety percent."

Juliana gazed at him for a moment, "Alright, but I’m not the patient’s family; I need to discuss it with Caleb Shaw."

"That’s appropriate." Auden Hughes nodded.

Just as the words left his mouth, a sudden, inexplicable heat surged from his spine to the back of his head.

Looking over at Juliana, her cheeks showed an unusual flush.
